Here are two trade ideas that could work together or seperately to improve our team this year and in the future. First, some background... Zydrunas Ilgauskas just broke his ankle again, and the Cavs are desperately chasing Boston for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, so they need a center to fill that gap... Who better than Brad Miller? The Kings are floundering without a competent point guard and Jerryd Bayless is playing relatively no minutes in Portland's crowded front court, while the Blazers have to start a rookie at small forward because of their lack of depth there (they could use John Salmons there, and yes, he would contribute...). The Warriors are desperately shopping Corey Magette who just signed a massive 50+ Million dollar 5 year deal, and is looking like an injured, selfish bust, while Brandan Wright can't rebound in their system and Anthony Randolph shows elite promise but is at odds with Don Nelson. So here are the trade ideas:
Trade A (3-Way)(Sacramento/Golden State/Cleveland)
Kings outgoing
Brad Miller (To Cleveland)
Quincy Douby (to Golden State)
Kings Incoming
Corey Magette (From Golden State)
Brandan Wright (From Golden State)
Anthony Randolph (From Golden State)
Cavs Outgoing
Wally Szczerbiak (To Golden State)
Cavs Incoming
Brad Miller (From Sacramento)
Golden State Outgoing
Anthony Randolph (To Sacramento)
Brandan Wright (To Sacramento)
Corey Magette (To Sacramento)
Golden State Incoming
Wally Szczerbiak (From Cleveland)
Quincy Douby (From Sacramento)
Why Sacramento Does It: Move Miller out of the rotation to get Hawes more minutes, while bolstering our youth projects with Randolph and Wright. Solidifies the front court and wing depth while sending Brad Miller to a contender like Geoffe wants.
Why Sacramento doesn't do it: Corey Magette's contract is very very rich...
Why Cleveland Does It: To stay competitive. Brad's contract expires in the summer of LeBron, so they're not really losing much flexibility. Brad gives them reliability at the center position, especially in the weak east, and his passing and elbow jumper would be a win win alongside LeBron and his shooter minions.
Why Cleveland Doesn't Do It: Are there better offers out there for a large expiring contract? Would anyone like to give them another Pau Gasol? Besides, they're paying the luxury tax anyway... Seriously, it's a good deal for both sides
Why Golden State Does It: Cap relief and a fresh start to entice one Carlos Boozer this summer with fresh wads of money...
Why Golden State Doesn't Do It: Management gave up a lot to acquire Brandan Wright, and Anthony Randolph has the potential every GM drools over. Petty cap relief and rental tryouts of scrubs would be little consolation for getting rid of their mistake signing of Magette, if they do in fact admit that it was a mistake signing in the first place...
Kings New Lineup (So Far...)
PG Beno Udrih/Bobby Jackson/Bobby Brown
SG Kevin Martin/Francisco Garcia
SF John Salmons/Corey Magette/Anthony Randolph
PF Jason Thompson/Brandan Wright/Dante Greene/#9
C Spencer Hawes/Mikki Moore/Sheldon Williams
Trade B (Simple Swap)(Portland/Sacramento)
Sacramento Outgoing
John Salmons (To Portland)
Sacramento Incoming
Jerryd Bayless (From Portland)
Ike Diogu or Channing Frye (Portland's choice as both would work and are expiring contracts)
Portland Outgoing
Jerryd Bayles (To Sacramento)
Ike Diogu or Channing Frye (Both would work and be fine by me)
Portland Incoming
John Salmons (From Sacramento)
Why the Kings Do This: For a bloody point guard. Bayless would have been our pick if Indiana didn't beat us to him, and he has the tools and the toughness to be the Kings starting point guard during and after the rebuild. John Salmons is a bit old to work for us, but he still has plenty of prime years left to be Portland's Kobe stopper and help them win a title until we're at full strength...
Why The Kings Don't Do This? Never trade with a western rival is all that comes to mind, but it would seem to be a no brainer to me...
Why the Blazers Do This: They need a starting quality small forward, and while Batum is playing fairly well, he does have his rookie mistakes. Salmons would improve their perimeter defense and his slashing ability would open up their deadly 3 point shooters and Aldridge's mid-range game. Besides, their GM feels that he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't make at least one in season trade to improve his team...
Why the Blazers Don't Do This: John Salmons might be a bit to old for their 5 years of dominance plan, but he'll be in his prime until Batum is ready to command the starting job.
Kings New Lineup (Post Trades A+B)
PG Jerryd Bayless/Beno Udrih/Bobby Jackson/Bobby Brown
SG Kevin Martin/Francisco Garcia
SF Anthony Randolph/Dante Greene/Corey Magette
PF Jason Thompson/Brandan Wright/Diogu or Frye/Kenny Thomas
C Spencer Hawes/Mikki Moore/Sheldon Williams
Kings would then have to waive a player to make room for the former Blazer players...I vote #9 or Mikki, but it would probably be a Bobby. Kings would still get 2 nice picks this draft and I'm thinking Thabeet or comparable center and the best player available... PG maybe if a Bobby is lost. Thoughts?
