Theus coached a team with

Prime Martin
Prime Artest
Prime Miller (albeit his last good year)
Salmons when he finally started coming into his own.
Solid Beno
Plus a little bit of Bibby.

Still way more talented than anything we've seen since then. The bench was god awful though, I'll give you that.
Miller definitely wasn't in his prime. He was decent but nothing like he was when he was an All Star with us. I get your point though. We had a decent team. A mix of some pretty solid veterans and a good young player in KMart. When you compare that 5-6 with our 5-6 now it's really eye opening just how bad we are now.

The ironic thing about this is that a lot of the ideas that Theus had as to how he wanted that team to play, while terrible for that roster, would be perfect for this one. At least some of the main components of it.

Theus was the last coach that had a real offensive system that you could see game in and game out. A lot of fans hated Theus for his seesawing on Vets v Rookies, but I was okay with him. At least for the cheap hires that the Maloofs would do. If you're going cheap the best you may get is a daring college coach. If you go cheap for someone in the NBA then you're probably getting a guy who should never be more than an assistant coach or a guy who was washed up long ago.

Good lord, I can't believe anybody really wants Theus back. If I'm going back to get any former coach, it'd be Adelman. Which will never happen, except in my dreams. Stupid Maloofs. And the Maloofs took Theus over Scotty Brooks, who really wanted the job, since his hometown is Modesto.
