Reggie plays redemption song for Pacers

I think there are plenty of other threads on this board that one can slam or discuss the Pacers and the brawl incident on. This thread is not one of them. How many times can one rehash anyway? Get over it!!

But anyway-thank you for posting such a great, inspiring article Hicks!! You keep me up to date on my favorite East Coast team. Don't be a stranger around here!

First, there are not plenty of threads, the incedent has been relaively excused on this board.
Second the title of the article is "Reggie plays redemption song for Pacers" imlying that he has saved their season from the somewhere. Facts are, there team, for this season, is beyond redemption.

There were TONS of threads about it, and lots and lots of comments made. If the majority of people on this board "excused" the incident, then that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

That isn't what this article is about and it's a shame you feel you have to bring it up again to revive your objections to the team as a whole...

The thread, started by a very nice guy and respected member of another sports forum, is about Reggie. Let's just focus on that in this one, okay?

Here's a Vlade anecdote for you. November 26, 1993. Lakers at Pacers. Pacers down 97-100 with 30 secs to go. Reggie hits a three pointer sideline in front of the Laker bench to tie the game and turns around to shout something un-nice at them. Next possession. Van Exel tries to run a play and passes it to Vlade. Vlade doesn't know what to do so he just heaves up a 20 footer. Nothing but net with 2/10ths remaining. Vlade trots back to bench with his finger in the air. Reggie walks off with head hanging, silenced and rendered impotent by the Vladinator.

"No problemo."

Yeah, I remember that one! Not every day Reggie gets one-upped! Not every day Vlade could make a shot like that one either! I'm gonna miss both of those guys.

Let me say this clearly, I would agree that the poster who started is this is wonderful. I have found him to be courteous, inciteful, and respectful. I hope he continues to post and to post more often.

As for it being all about Reggie...I disagree. The article is all about Reggie saving the season for the Pacers. I think it cannot be saved, that their season will always be remebered for their collective stupidity in Auburn Hills.

As for Reggie, he's alright. A little pompus, but aren't most stars (future HOF). I do admire his heart and integrity throughout this difficult season...much props.

The article was about Reggie. When you're talking about Reggie, of course you're going to talk about the Pacers and what he's trying to do as a Pacer. You're just picking up on that as an excuse to be self-righteous, forever damning the Pacer organization ( as if they are wholly responsible ) because they picked up a bad player.

I think people who brush these things off as just human nature go too far, but the other extreme isn't much better. You'd like pro athletes to turn the other cheek but it's not that easy, for anyone. Accept that guilt was determined, punishment meted out, and move on. Blaming the entire organization and saying it is irredeemable is just absurd. People who think that way are just setting themselves up for a fall or are blatant hypocrites, holding up famous people to standards they themselves refuse to live by. Remember those words the next time some guy throws beer on you, spits at you, or throws a punch at you.

So you think it's about the Pacers and you're never going to forgive them? That is, of course, your opinion and you are entitled to it. You've made it clear...

The whole point of the article was that in a time of darkness Reggie Miller was a beacon of light. THAT's the point, not whether or not the actions of A FEW of his teammates were deplorable. We know they were deplorable, and they've paid the price.

EDIT: About the threads not being active in the last 100 days? Perhaps it's because everyone else has pretty much moved on with their lives. The incident isn't something people want to keep talking about. It pretty much has been talked about to death...
