Regardless Of Their Decision Today, The Maloofs Don't Care About The Fans Or The City

Excuse me for being negative but I don't buy any of their crap they said today. They didn't do this to give Sacramento one more chance. This had nothing to do with season ticket holders, or all the work the fans did. This had nothing to do with loyalty to the city of Sacramento. The only reason the Kings are here for one more year is because everything that could have gone wrong for the Maloofs, did. Every possible door closed for them and they were left with no choice but to stay one more year. Those guys tried to take my team and I will never respect them ever again.
This issue was about everything except the fans. Saying they don't care about the fans because they want to move is just false. Fans just aren't enough in this situation.

Since god hasn't given me the ability to read minds, and I'm not running inside the Maloof's inner circles, I can either accept what they say, or not. Being selfish, I choose to believe those comments that are somewhat selfserving. Such as their love for the fans. Could be a lie of course, but I do think there's some truth there. lets remember that were dealing with a family and not a single person. Don't know about you, but there's plenty of dissention in some of my family discussions. From everything I've read, and frankly, I'm really, really, really, tired of reading about this, and remembering what my grandmother told me, beleive none of what your read and only half of what you see, I'm starting to think there was a split in the family about what to do. Wow, that was a long sentence. Sorry!

Anyway, from what I've read, George Maloof seemed to be hell bent on moving the team to Anaheim. Joe Maloof was leaning hard to keeping the team in sacramento for another year. Momma Maloof seemed willing to lend more credence to what Joe and Gavin wanted to do, because esentially, the Kings is their baby. So it appears George was led kicking and screaming to this decision. He was more inclined to take it to a league vote before giving up on the Anaheim move. I admit to reading between the lines here a bit, and the verbs are all mine. But from what I've read, it came down to Joe against George, with the family finally deciding with Joe, and to some degree Gavin. So take from it what you will. In truth, its all irrelevant now anyway.

Personally, I'd like to see Joe and Gavin sitting in their seats again. And without unpleasantry's being thrown their way. Right now, they seem to have little say in the arena outcome, other than to support it. But down the road, there are a lot of what if's I could come up with, where having the owners on the side of wanting to stay could be a valuable asset. So I propose we all try and get along, and look at it as a new beginning. And maybe talk basketball again. Also, here's a video of an interview with Joe right after the announcement that they're staying. I haven't seen it posted anywhere else, but if it has I apolgize.

Sometimes seeing the interview has more impact than just listening. If you don't think so, well, just remember the Kennedy/Nixon debate. If you listened to it on the radio, you thought Nixon won, if you watched it on TV, you thought Kennedy won.

I've said it before and I'll continue to say it until there's some reason to believe otherwise:
If the Maloofs had been trying to relocate to Kansas City or Louisville the vote would have already taken place and the team would be moving. Period.

But because they were trying to move into a majro market that already had two teams in close proximity in a deal that reportedly had some shaky details, they got stonewalled by Stern and the BOG.

I don't think any of them really wanted to come back to Sacramento because they have lost money the last few years and are frustrated by the failure to get an arena deal done. Also -and I don't mean this meanly - I really think they are emotional dreamers and I think they'd started envisioning Anaheim as this panacea that would reverse their fortunes and make them the toast of the NBA.

I think the argument (if there was any) in the family was about whether or not to file anyway and possibly take legal action if denied. I think they were coerced into returning back to Sacramento, plain and simple.

That being said, I really do believe the Maloofs appreciate Sacramento's fans. I think it was hard for them to try to relocate and I don't think it was necessarily what they wanted to do but felt forced to because of the lack of movement on an arena and feeling like they hit their heads against the wall about it from day one with nothing to show for it.

I don't think they are bad guys. I think they are passionate owners who want a winning team. But I also think they are tone deaf in terms of PR and struggle to say and do the right things. And they will continue to do so. It doesn't surprise me that Joe's interview with Grant was as awkward and uncomfortable as it was. The Maloofs don't strike me as having a high business acumen or being particularly savvy when it comes to the media.

I believe they do appreciate Sacramento's fans and outside of their high frustration about the arena and worries about revenue streams I think they do care about the city. But of course, I'll echo the sentiments of others that it doesn't really matter what I believe or how the Maloofs really feel. The only thing that really matters is getting an arena done that keeps the Kings in Sacramento for a long time.

Well you know what they say, behind every great lie is a little bit of truth. I believe that is what happened in the response yesterday by the Maloofs. I mean, frankly I don't care - the Kings are still here and we only have so many months to get this Arena thing hashed out once an for all. Hating the Maloofs and calling them out... not going to get that problem solved.

Now that this has been discussed, let's allow the City, the Maloof's and the NBA handle their discussions. Be happy the Kings are still here, for goodness sakes! It wasn't but a few weeks ago we were within a snap of a thread away from losing them.

You know what's awesome to me?? I get to hear the "G- Man" during a Kings game again!! It was but a little bit ago that I had tears watching what I thought was our final game. I can't believe how things have turned around!! I know that we have a long 9 months ahead, but I need a moment just to bask in the joy of what just happened.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I agree that the arguement, if there was one, came at the point of deciding to proceed any futher with the move after the league advised against it. Joe has always been the biggest fan of sacramento, and he probably is excited about returning. But I agree with you, that if the league hadn't interceeded, they would be gone. They were making what they thought was the best business decision for them. Whether we agreed with them or not, was immaterial to them. I'm sure that last statement might irritate people, but you have to remember, they were looking out for themselves. Personally I think they could have handled it better, but looking at their past history, maybe its just not in their makeup.
