Raptors 5-2 since the trade

Addition by subtraction. Despite his numbers, Gay made both the Grizz and Raps worse. His play style isn't conducive to a winning offense, and we're starting to see that.
I still like the trade from a rebuilding standpoint. He'll help the tank, and be a trade asset next season as a big expiring contract.
That said, I'm going to be mad if PDA locks him up long term.

We are a funny bunch, aren't we. Yes, the debates will never end nor be settled. But, yes, the Evans and IT debaters have gotten extremely tiresome though ongoing and unsettled. Don't worry thogh because you know that at some point Cousins' pedestal will begin to quake and all hell - so to speak - wii break loose. Ad naseum.
There was always a decent chance this worked out for both teams. For the Raptors they had designed a stupid and duplicative offense designed around DeRozan and Gay. Losing one of them forced them to be more of a team. Addiiton by subtraction. Not one of the ex Kings is doing anything much different than he did here. It just meant more shots spread around to other players who were hungry for them.
Meanwhile in 6 games with us Rudy is:
18.8pts (.500 .267 .781) 3.7reb 2.8ast 1.0stl 1.8blk 3.3TO
Which other than the subpar rebounding for him, is no real complaints territory, and we're averaging 102.8pts over that span with the only game we scored under 100 being the Charlotte game where Gay appeared hampered and had to leave the game early with a knee problem. Without that injury shortened game game BTW he's averaging 22.2pts on .526 shooting. All of which is another way of saying he's done quite well here. Our issues as always are at the other end.

I was reading a couple Raptor forums at work today and it's funny how within a few days they all went from wanting to tank while trading Lowry and Derozan to all the sudden being excited at having a chance at the 4th seed in the playoffs. Since Gay left, Lowry has become Lowry again and Derozan has gotten better too.
As far as the trade goes, Raptor fans miss Acy as an 8th or 9th bench guy that always gave good effort but never got the chance to really play to showcase what he can do. Seems like pretty much all of them liked Acy. None of them have really much said much of anything about Gray. As far as Rudy Gay goes, they are really trying to make him look bad. Even though he's shooting 50%, they're still laughing at how he's a chucker for us (which I haven't noticed) and anytime he shoots more than Cousins, they think Cousins is going to blow up on him and get suspended again.

They are tanking. It's a team game and that trade brought us a huge talent which in the long run is very important if he fits and likes it here but in the short run it emasculated our bench. We still need 10 players to play a game. Also it shuffled Williams to a new role and most certainly a lot of confusion resulted. I suspect the team will play better as the season progresses and I think already is on the offensive side of the ball.
You should go back and try to resurrect the poll where we predicted what effect the Rudy Gay trade would have on this team. I predicted no change in the w/l record although that was intentially pessimistic. I have been burned too many times being optimistic about this team.

I think it's great that they are playing better. I also think the trade really helped both teams. I've looked at the box scores of over half their games since the trade and it is obvious by the rotations and minutes that each of Salmons, Vasquez, and Paterson have been a big part of the tun-around not so much by scoring as being first in and getting the most bench minutes. Very interesting.
sometimes i think that kings fans had gotten so used to the stink leftover from the back end of the maloof/petrie era that they can no longer recognize the problem for what is is. it's right in front of our eyes every single game: the kings are one of the worst defensive teams in the entire nba, and the rudy gay trade, while an obvious upgrade in talent, did nothing to correct those glaring defensive issues. it's that simple.
I think this is one of those trades where the team was made better in the future but did nothing for the present. The net effect should eventually be clearly positive. Teams depend on having stars and as we let one go last summer, we acquired another a few weeks ago.
It's a very valid question for people who have not been paying attention to our defense and the continuing lack of an inflow of defensive talent. We will find out what a defensive skilled coach can do with a team that is disinterested in defense, unable to play defense, or maybe some other option that doesn't spring readily to mind.
