Randy Youngman of OC Register changes his tune

I think Youngman sums up all the moving parts in play - and there's sure a lot of them. No, it's not a "slam dunk" to use his phrase that Kings relocate to Anaheim but we'll just have to see what falls into place and what doesn't.

Too bad he hasn't changed his abilities as a reporter. Sure, it's better to read this slant than his previous one that the Kings were definitely moving but he's still terrible.

Is he actually a reporter? As far as I can tell, he read Stern's quotes and made one phone call - a phone call I might add, that seemed to dismiss his theory and yet he wrote about it anyway. This is the same guy who published an article with a rumor that the Maloofs had already filed and the league was fast tracking the vote.

This guy and Crandall should collaborate.

•Why did Sacramento choose ICON Venue Group, a Denver-based sports venue developer, to do the arena feasibility study? Is it because IVG was formed in 2004 when Romani Group merged with Anschutz Entertainment Group, the LA-based company that owns Staples Center, the NHL Kings and a percentage of the Lakers?

It is known that Lakers owner Jerry Buss opposes the Sacramento Kings relocation, and the word is he has been privately campaigning against the move because the Lakers would have to share the TV market with another team. The Lakers' new TV contract with Time Warner Cable also reportedly would be worth significantly less if there is a third team in the market.

So I called AEG on Tuesday to see if it was helping ICON Venue Group with the feasibility study. Spokesman Michael Roth said that study was "completely ICON" and that "there's absolutely nothing to read into that."

Makes you wonder, though.

Yup, Sacramento only got ICON involved once the move to Anaheim was announced so that they could collaborate with a business partner of Jerry Buss. Not because, you know, ICON does feasibility studies on arenas..

Ailene wants in on this collaboration.

ICON was involved well before the announcement.

Youngman was on local radio earlier and mentioned that part of the issue with Anaheim was the TV deal had some gaping holes for next season while they still had the Lakers. I guess Fox Sports wanted to carry the Kings/Royals, but not when they conflicted with other NBA programming. So they would not carry the games full time. I guess that left the Maloofs scrambling to find another TV channel to carry the games not on FOX.

Looks like I guess the BOG asked some good questions and the Maloofs were not prepared. This really reflects poorly on the team if something so blatantly obvious was not noted and worked out by now. And this is no small detail since the media windfall was supposed to be the huge bait for moving. If this was one of those recent developments, this was a poorly planned move. I'm starting to form the opinion that the Maloofs just thought they would get rubber stamp approval without anyone caring if they had all the plans worked out. Were they thinking that because they're rolling into to Socal with their NBA team in tow that they would be greeted with a red carpet and wheelbarrows full of cash.

I wonder if they broke 1,000 people willing to buy season tickets yet?

I heard that interview too. Youngman mentioned that they already had 3,000+ people that said they'd buy season tickets.

Thanks, I missed part of the interview. And 3,000... I'm not impressed out of the total number of bodies in that county. They should be at least double or triple that number to show a strong interest in getting the team. I truly think they just don't care one way or another.

Well before this corresponding point of the timeline bringing the Kings to Sac there were 10,000 people on the season ticket list. And that's when the population was smaller still... around 1.4 mil for the metro area.

I don't understand the hate with Crandall. Didn't he, accurately, say weeks ago that a group was put together in an attempt to save the Kings/keep them in Sac?

No. He was talking about a separate try (with exaggerations, and falshoods sprinkled in). THAT effort, (which had no funding and no Maloof enthusiasm) resulted in a 15 minute phone call with George Maloof and was dismissed.

Nothing has ever happened to vindicate Crandell. TIme just passed and we all moved on and got tired of talking about what a douche he is. I can't imagine anybody giving him a legit scoop.

Hey by the way, Crandell just tweeted "something will probably happen at some point in the future. It is secret and only I know it. You heard it here first. Tune in at 11".

Is he going to tell us what he had for dinner or something?
