Just announced at the end of the Wizards game: McNabb to the Redskins.

Hey football people: how'd you let a non-football fan scoop you on this, when I wasn't even watching something related to football?

Wow, just saw this on NFL.com. Since the Eagles traded Sheldon Brown to the Browns I've been expecting a McNabb for Asumagha trade.

I'm kind of on the fence with this one, since I think Campbell isn't consistent enough to be a starter. And since I don't watch college football (other than some of the pre-draft stuff) I'm not sure if the Redskins could get a QB with one of those picks, or if they even wanted to.

What does this mean for the Eagles? Do they go QB with one of their early picks or do they hand the reins over to Vick or....hmm I forget their other QB's name at the moment

It means the PTB think Kevin Kolb is a better quarterback than I do. Donovan would probably have taken less money to stay with the Eagles, but it seems like they were trading while the stock was high, so to speak. The Redskins gave quite a bit to get him, and although they can still take someone like Clausen (assuming McNabb is a one year rental), it seems they would have given up quite a bit for a rookie quarterback and McNabb.
If McNabb is healthy, and I think he is, I think this will bite the Eagles in the rear. The Skins didn't look as bad as their record indicated.

Pretty ballsy move by Philly sending him to a division rival. That almost never works out good.

The Skins were one of the teams that were supposedly interested in Jimmy Clausen so I'm curious what this does or doesn't say about his draft standing.

PHI-WAS just got moved to a monday night I'm sure. The Eagles, as pdx said, will probably regret this more than anything. I personally just don't get what Philly's doing.. rebuilding I guess? And also putting alot of stock in what was on their bench.

You know even though I'm a Mcnabb fan, I have been starting to think it was time to move in a new direction. Kolb was drafted to be the QB of the future and apparently they feel he is ready now. Kolb gets rid of the ball faster and is more accurate than Mcnabb which is a good fit for a timing offense. Plus, Kolb is surrounded by one of the most talented offensive groups in the NFL. Desean, Maclin, Celek, Weaver and McCoy are all coming into their primes.

Just by firing Jim Zorn, they're automatically at least three games better. Then hiring Shanahan was a great move, and not blowing a bunch of cash on washed up free agents was the last sign that they are going to be a grown-up organization from now on. The trade for McNabb, assuming they get a new contract that keeps him there for a couple more seasons, is a good deal. Getting a Pro-Bowl quarterback for a couple of draft picks is nothing to sneeze at, and now they can use the 4th pick on someone other than a quarterback. Eric Berry, perhaps?

Thing about McNabb is that he might be healthy now, but he gets hurt practically every year. Only played the entire season four times in his career, and even those years, he had injuries that diminished his level of play. No question he makes the Skins a contender for the NFC East, but if Kevin Kolb is ready and can handle being the starter, the Eagles did okay themselves. Pick #37 this year, a late 3rd/early 4th next year, and took over $15 million off the books. I don't know why they wanted to get rid of McNabb, but they've always been a team that is willing to part with a player a year too early rather than a year too late, and if this was about moving forward as a team, then they turned his expiring contract into two pretty good draft picks, and they believe they have the quarterback of the future already on the team. As long as they don't blow the picks, they did alright.

Not a bad deal from either side, if you ask me.

I'd agree with DeSean and maybe, maybe Celek. But I woudn't say the rest are exactly what I'd call entering their primes. And even if they were, I don't think they're enough to surround a inexperienced QB with.

I would agree if it wasn't a division rival. Throw a QB friendly coach like Shanny into the mix and you're liable to have the guy who owns a good chunk of the franchise passing records eating you alive for 2 or 3 seasons. Long term it probably works in their favor but shipping him off to an AFC team not likely to be on the schedule would have been preferential.

Long term it probably works in their favor but shipping him off to an AFC team not likely to be on the schedule would have been preferential.

It didn't hurt the Pats. I mean, I agree that you would prefer NOT to have him in the division, but if the Skins are offering more than everyone else is, which I would have to think they did, then you just do the deal for the best offer out there and don't look back. But there's no question that the Eagles will be okay in the long term. It's short term that I have questions about, and if Kolb can't make that offense go, then Eagles fans are gonna make life hard for that team.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just think that, everything else being equal, I'll take a better deal from a division rival instead of a worse deal to get him out of the division. Whoever they get with these picks will be on their team every week for several years to come; they only play the Skins twice a year, and McNabb only has a few more years left, if he stays healthy. We know what Shanny can do with a good quarterback, so the Eagles probably winced at the thought, but at the end of the day, they apparently opted to go with the best and highest offer, and just move forward. I'd have probably done the same.

Well Weaver was a pro bowler, McCoy was one of the better rookie backs and maclin IMO will end up being even better than Jackson. He had a really good rookie season and is bigger and just as fast as Desean. The Eagles will have no problem scoring but stopping people may be a problem.

What are your guys thoughts on the draft so far?

Bold move by the Broncos to grab Tebow. I'm really not sure what their plan is. They just traded for Brady Quinn, and didn't they say they planned to keep Kyle Orton? I guess they feel neither is a long term solution at QB

I was gonna post about Tebow. I don't think there is a player I like less, yes including the Mannings. I am really torn up about it. I know I won't have any problems picking who to root for when the Pats play the Broncos if he is their starter. I honestly do think McDaniels probably can get the best out of him, but if there was one guy I was ever hoping to enjoy watch struggle in the transition to the pros it was Tebow.

I still don't think he is a true QB in the NFL, I've always had Madden-esque fantasies about playing him in a 2 QB scheme, he can block if the other guy gets the snap, take a direct snap as a FB, take a snap and drop back or receive a back field pass or handoff and throw out of it. If teams are gonna run the wildcat, why not?

Still would prefer to see it happen on a team I enjoy seeing suck, like the Raiders.

Way too high for Tebow, if you ask me. But I guess that's what they wanted and would have taken him in the second round anyways. Don't know what they're plans are at quarterback, now that they have three guys competing for one spot.

I like the receiver they took, though. He'll be a beast.

That was my other problem with the move, but I'm just more stunned at the prospect that I kind of sort of have to root for him. Honestly I'd of rather they taken McCoy or Clausen and I'm not fond of UT or smarmy kids with bad hair but I could easily get over that.

I don't dislike Tebow in particular, but there's a lot of hype for a guy that's not gonna be a good NFL quarterback. I just can't see him making the transition and being a full-time starter for a contender. Too big of a leap.

And I don't understand why they'd trade for Brady Quinn and keep Kyle Orton, and then put QB on their draft needs board in the early rounds.

I don't like people that bring their personal business into my weekly escape which is why I feel so strongly about Tebow. But I also think he's not a full time starter in a pro scheme. But McDaniels might want to run a gimmick offense.

I kinda don't see McDaniels being successful running a gimmick offense, but I guess anything is possible. "Gimmick" is the hottest word in the NFL right now. And that's something that becomes a credible threat when you have Tebow on the field.

I will reluctantly admit that I do think he is a good fit for the market, based on the Rockies success and the fact that the group he did his Super Bowl ad for is based out of Colorado Springs. But I think (and truly hope) that it was a football decision. It's rumored the Pats wanted him, which would have been an easier pill for my fandom to swallow since there's no way he runs Brady from town, and that's why McD had to move to take him.

Yeah, they could have traded next year's #1 for a high #2 this year and still got Tebow, for sure.

Not if the Pats wanted him at 27. I'd be shocked if they weren't blowing smoke up everyone's butts, but Tebow himself thought he'd wind up in New England if Peter King is to be believed.

I think they could get a high 4th rounder back, maybe more, by packaging either Quinn or Orton and their 5th rounder (6th pick, #137). I didn't realize it, but they still have five picks left in this draft, so overall, they have two firsts (really a first and a second, because of the reach for Tebow), two thirds, a high fifth and a mid sixth, so it's not like their draft is totally ruined. But still, they could have been fine staying in the second where they were, plus three thirds and a fourth. I don't get the move.
