R.E. Graswich: The mood now is good riddance

#31
My mood is not good riddance. I want the Sacramento Kings right here in Sacramento. There is nothing good about that not happening.

I hope the mayor doesn't feel that way. I'm not looking deals good or bad, I'm looking to have the Kings in Sacramento next year and into the future. Please, someone in charge, tell me how that can happen.

I feel for you and can totally relate. Sadly, there is no one in charge - that's the problem around here. No vision, no leadership, no plan, just endless bickering, dithering, and a big pile of BS.

That's not accurate. KJ was motivated to get an arean built but The Maloofs won't work with him. It's not his fault what's happened in the past.

Exactly how i feel. KJ came in with boundless optimism and that optimism seems to have been beatin out of him. And PurpleHaze could be right. When your right hand man is Mr. Negativism himself then maybe a lot of that has rubbed off on him. KJ is completely to blame for bringing in that blowhard.

I'm 20 years old. Been a kings fan since I was 6.

Important time of my life and I'm moving to OC with the team gotta do it. **** SAC. I will always rep my hometown of SAC cuz you made me what I am today. But Gotta Turn my back on you. You leave me with no other choice.... :(

I wanted to make a living in La with the team and then come back to retire in Sac but I now i dont think I ever want to come back. I fear what this city will become is going to be too bad.

It hurts me to say it. The police system is so corrupt, especially in suburbs like elk grove with that huge police force. Voilence in sacramento is at all time high as it is, you have kids attacking reporters because there isn't anything else to do.... It's all bad guys. Huge brawls that usually end up deadly at bowling alleys that are supposed to be NICE AREAS like Laguna West. I Know WAYYYYY TOO many people with DUI's that it is NO COINCIDENCE the Kings staff seemingly gets alot of Dui's.

Count me in as a fan that has to the move with the team
You sound like someone that is 20 years old. Elk Grove has been in decline since, well, 1998 and continues that way especially in the Laguna area. You wouldn't know because you were 7 years old. The violence in Sacramento and the isolated events you mention don't reflect the city or team. DUI's are a persons personal actions not based on a city. It's good to hear that your a fan of the team and that just what it is, a team, not the cities team, people need to realize that. It's business and the Maloofs are in the NBA to make money not just win ball games. Merchandise, TV deals, and marketing will make them a sh!t load of money in the Orange County market. Any team can move if they want and if you were the Kings owners and had the option to move the team to avoid losing money and not making nearly what other small market teams are making you might consider moving also. I'm not for the team moving at all but it's what's best for the organization, not the city.

Hopefully you enjoy the OC (not part of LOS ANGELES) because it nice out there and you follow the team. I'd hate to have the Kings not move and then your there stuck watching the Angels and Ducks. So don't blame the city on the faults of high school kids acting fools, cops being a$$#@!#$, and Laguna turning into what was inevitable, a middle-low class neighborhood. Just enjoy the team wherever it goes because I know that when I moved from Sacramento to L.A. that didn't change my opinion on the city, still love going back and hanging out.

Based on this comment as well as your following comment (I know that you are not just blowing hot air as I truly believe that you are deeply connected with the team), you have revealed something on the inside that appears to be a done deal even though it isn't officially out there. The Kings are truly gone, and my heart is broken. Who is to blame? I believe it's a little bit of everybody. Everybody.

I do have deep connections with the team, but what I know about the team leaving is nothing more than what everyone else knows.

The city of Sacramento will lose big without the Kings in town. The naysayers don't know it now but they will feel it soon enough. A sports team, especially a professional one, is so important for civic pride and to give an identity to its city. Just the city's name being mentioned on TV during score updates and recaps and everything else all over the nation and the world for that matter is like advertising 'hits' (like hits on a web-site) for the city.

Vote the SCUM out of office when the time comes. These so called politicians, including those close to the mayor, are all equally worthless. Let them know why they have been canned.

That's what many of us want but we cannot do anything about it if we live outside the city limits. In my case just outside Sac City in the county. The people of the metro area (around 1.5 million v. only about 480,000 in the city) could fix that with some form of consolidation. The truth is too many local politician are all about protecting their stinking turf instead of working for overall interest of the community.

I think people are misinterpreting what RE is saying - he isn't personally saying good riddance, he's talking about the pulse of the jerks posting on the Bee and other forums. And when he says he's not sure it's sunk in I believe he means that those fools don't realize the totality of what the Kings leaving and no arena really mean.
RE has a significant history of making inflammatory and derogatory statements towards the Maloofs. He has been mean-spirited to the point that it seems like a personal vendetta towards the Maloofs to me.

I understand that but the article was about "the mood of the city". I also completely understand that political types, which is what he is now, all to often try to speak for "Joe Six Pack" and put their foots in their mouths. I'm not defending him except to say that I think he is being at least partially misinterpreted by some. Doesn't mean he should be saying it, even if it is to NY and Chicago sources thinking it would never get back.

I exchanged several emails with the Chicago author of that article. He is originally from Sacramento and raised his kids here. He is probably as upset as all of us are. He knows RE very well and kept away from the subject of RE. He does not understand the purpose of blowing up a team for the eventual good of the team. He is probably as much an average fan of the Kings and a lover of Sacramento as any of us. There is a backstory here that takes the sting out of anything he writes.

His mistake was quoting RE. He didn't realize we read everything and dang, man, if you read this, be careful!

You are very kind. There is truth to what you say. On the other hand to separate an R.E. opinion from the real world would be nice except he is now in the Mayor's office. He has to be responsibile for what he says.

KJ may have hired the guy who alienates the fans and destroys the Kings or at least their tenure in Sacramento. What else has R.E. said and to whom? Think about it. This eventually is the responsability of KJ and makes it appear that he is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

What an idiot. He should never be allowed to open his mouth again. I'll be mad once they leave but I still want them to stay. Graswich should be fired ASAP.

I agree with you here. If KJ's objective is keeping the Kings in Sac, and that's what he says he's been trying to do, then when someone he hired comes out and spews nonsense like this, which only hurts the situation, and has hurt the situation in the past, he should be fired.

KJ can't have it both ways. How the hell can he say he wants the Kings to stay, and will work with the Maloofs to do so, while letting his spokesperson publicly bash the Maloofs like this? If you're not working with KJ, you're against him. I'm beginning to wonder about KJ though, and his true intentions. He can't take one stance, and have his spokesperson take the opposite.

I am going to move in the next 6 months or so. I just might move into Sacramento so I can vote. On the other hand ...............

KJ lost me a month ago or whenever it was when he come out with unnecessary bleak announcements. A mayor doesn't have to speak just because he can and what he said was more in line with what R.E. said than anything else. R.E. is just crude and inflammatory and KJ is the politcian.

McGrath also mentioned that KJ was the lone professional basketball product of Sacramento... He's forgetting a few guys I guess.

Yah I can't either. I live in "sacramento" but have a 95830 zip code. One side of the street is Sac and the other side is Elk Grove. I don't get to vote for those people.

Yet I do get to pay my money to support the Kings.. Funny how that crap works eh? So I basically give people money without having a say in what those idiot politicians do to my team. ********
