Quiz: How Many Season Ticket Holders Did Not Renew?

On Thursday I went to the Kings first-ever season ticket holder (STH) seat relocation event at Arco. I went to see if I could do a little bit better for the Sec 216 H seats on my account (that I have been selling to a group of former work cohorts for about 6 years).

Going into my 11th season as a STH, I was placed in the 4th group (of 30 participants each) that got to enter the arena on Thursday afternoon (the 1st of 3 days of the event) to see which seats were available to switch mine for or even buy additional seats (yeah, right). All seats available were clearly tagged, as is typical of these types of events.

BTW, the Kings convinced me they could find me a 1/2 season ticket partner so I haven't quite let the Section 112 seats go yet either. I am doubtful, however.

Anyway, on to the quiz...

What were the AVERAGE number of seats available in each LOWER level section, indicating how many STHs did not renew after this past season?

I counted the available seats in EVERY lower level section while I was at the event, so I know what was out there...

For reference, all lower section have rows A-Y (25 rows) with a varying number of seats, depending if they are sidecourt, kitty-corner, or behind the basket. I would say there is an average of 12 seats in every lower level row. That's 25 X 12 or 300 seats each in 24 sections, excluding rows AAA, BBB, AA-DD in the 8 sidecourt sections (I did not count the available seats in those limited rows).

The answer (including low, high, and average) can be found by scrolling down to the end of this post...

But first...what do you think the average number of seats per section was? OK, now head on down to find out the answer...

Number of seats available in lower level sections (per section):

AVERAGE = 20 seats
Low = 8 seats
High = 32 seats

I bet that, like me, most of you were shocked. I thought it would be many, many more seats available. This represents a renewal rate of about 93%, at least in the lower bowl.

For the upper level, although I did not count, it probably had around the same ratio of available seats as in the lower level...but that amounts to a greater number of available seats in the upper deck, obviously.

Anyway, I got to upgrade my 216 H seats by one row down to 216 G (lowest row to stay at that price level) and stay on the aisle, so it was worth the brief visit.

First of all - congrats on row G over the Kings bench. SWEET! Long term STH's like you deserve goodies like that.

Second of all - do you know how many groups were there on Thursday? I was in the first Friday group... I want to figure out how that ranks.

But to your point about renewals (and thanks for doing all the counting on that) ... are ALL the cards on the table?? I noticed when I went Saturday morning that your seats were untagged so I figured you renewed after all. But you haven't exactly right? Not permanently..... yet?

If you looked you would see that mine weren't tagged either, but I had only renewed with the intention of canceling and requesting a refund after relocation if I didn't get some mindblowing lowers like row A, or really nice uppers. It worked out ultimately as a renewal, but it was a lukewarm one and wasn't final until yesterday. But if I hadn't found a seat I wanted, then it would have appeared to any observer that I was retained (when I would not have been in reality).

I think we have no idea how many other "conditional" renewals there were - so we can't quite extrapolate a renewal rate from what we saw at Arco these last few days I don't think. I think there was a lot more post-deadline cajoling and arm twisting and dealmaking than usual this year. So it wouldn't surprise me if MSE wanted to do what they could to keep the bodies off the battlefield in this relocation event to the extent they could.

Still, all that said.... I also came to the conclusion that the STH base is not as decimated as it seemed in the immediate aftermath of last season. But I don't think it is as rich as it appeared in the relocation event either. I think waiting list people will potentially have some pretty good choices.

I have already posted on the other thread, but when we went this morning at 10:00, there really weren't that many tags to pull. But, the bottom line is that those that were there were very good within almost sections. Some sections did not have any tags to pull. This was a great event and well done. We were so pleased with our move! Annie.

I don't know how many were scheduled on each day. All I know is that groups were going off every 1/2 hour, 30 reservations to a group, and I was in the 4th group on Thursday.

See my message at the top of this thread. The Kings convinced me to hang around on my Section 112 seats, assuring me they would find me a 1/2 season partner. So far, it does not look they will be able to do it. That's why my seats were not tagged.

I attended the Kings-sponsored STH "partnering event" at Arco a couple weeks ago. There were probably no more than about 30 STHs that showed up trying to find a partner(s). Not sure how many that are in my boat didn't show...

I only met one person that had any interest at all in a half season in Sec 112. He took my name and number, but he never called back.
