Ch. 10's Bryan May had an exclusive 20-minute phone conversation today with George Maloof. Due to technical difficulties, 10 was only able to play a very small portion of it - but the part they did play pretty much reinforces the belief that George Maloof is not playing with a full deck. He talks about how it's not their fault, it was never their fault, and he doesn't even understand why the fans are upset with the Maloofs. He actually started to say it was Mayor Johnson and Chris Lehane who turned the fans against the Maloofs. Bryan May was trying to ask him if he understood that regardless of how it happened the Maloofs had some fence-mending to do and George just wasn't buying it.

May said the interview piece will run on tonight's 11 p.m. news broadcast. Set your DVRs!

Unfortunately, I can't get that broadcast down here in Ensenada. If anyone knows a link for a rebroadcast at a later time, please post it. Otherwise, hopefully someone will do a summory of it on this thread.

Would love to see this up here too. Please post a link when its available!

I don't need to say it to say "What a kook!" though :)

Is the toyota sports extra a news 10 segment? News 10 talked Kings but there wasn't any George interview, only a quick soundbite.

Edit:maybe this is it, Brian May on now.

Nevermind. Did I link the wrong news10?

It was the same BS he's been spewing since Friday.

I agree with these three stooges that there was "no deal" ... meaning nothing was finalized and many minute details still needed to be worked out. However to say that the specifics spelled out within the term sheet weren't agreed to is laughable. They didn't leave that hotel room in Orlando while there was a gap in the amount of $$ each party would contribute (which AEG stepped up and closed) why on earth would they leave the room with their name attached to 25% of the predevelopment fees if they weren't agreeable to them? Why would they call the deal "fair" if there was no deal in the first place as they are claiming now?

Nothing they claim ever seems to hold water.

Lastly, Joe Maloof's comments that they only held up hands with the Mayor because they didn't want to embarrass him in public only re-enforces how delusional these guys are and how far they'll reach to further perpetuate their lies.

Bryan May is a lot nicer than I would have been. Now I guess we'll have to wait until the Don Geronimo Show and see what George Maloof had to say in his conversation with Carmichael Dave.

I think George is the one going on with dave. What did Brian even ask him?

You're right. It's George and not Joe. ...sigh... It's been a long weekend.

I think the phone call is posted on news10. It was bizarre. George is acting like he was totally innocent and that it was the Mayor and the city who are to blame for the ill feelings towards the family. It was uncomfortable to listen to because I get the feeling he really believes what he's saying and that's scary. Most of the interview was during the Toyota Sports Extra time slot so hopefully it's all on the website. I recorded it but I'm too tired to replay and transcribe it tonight. I'll try and do it tomorrow.

the maloofs built a hotel and casino in las vegas. they're gamblers by nature, and in the last few years, they've lost. a lot. now all they have left are the delusions that any gambler leans on in order to massage a shattered ego. its a slippery slope, and its mighty difficult to work with people constantly sliding down it. george maloof happens to be the worst offender of the maloof brothers, because he just doesn't understand how to exercise the phrase "no comment." he can't seem to shut his ****ing mouth. it doesn't bother me much, because damn near everything he says borders on self-sabotage, but you really do have to question his intelligence in moments like these...

the thing is, the maloofs have been in poor public standing in sacramento for some time now. they're certainly not doing themselves any favors by making the kinds of claims they continue to make, but what did they expect? agree with a handshake to an arena deal they've been salivating over for a decade, and then back out? what kind of public support do you expect to engender after holding kings fans and the city of sacramento hostage in this fashion? there's no chance of rallying that support with the arrogance they consistently display, and i find it baffling that these "rich people" would rather be hated by the fanbase that supports this team, and the community of the greater sacramento area at large, just so that they might cling to the scraps of elite standing that come with owning an nba franchise. what possible pleasure can you get from such an enterprise? it might make better business sense to hold out for whatever it is they're attempting to hold out for, but then its absolutely ****ty business sense to lock up the majority of you assets in an nba franchise, which is not a guaranteed money maker, regardless of strides made in the new cba. i just don't get it...

I think the problem arose when most Kings fan in Sacramento (led by the Mayor himself) celebrated prematurely and presumed the "deal" was official, binding, and will push through no matter what, when in fact nothing official was finalized and many details are still needing some ironing. They should have known that the Maloofs do not have "the money" now. Those little details/expenses which otherwise look small for a regular rich owner are now big expenses for the Maloofs.

If I was the Mayor, I would not have celebrated too early or acted as if I got it made and we have a "done deal" already. That was showbiz.

Is the Mayor up for re-election?

No, it was clearly stated that the terms were legally non-binding from the very first announcement in Orlando. To me, that meant that there were still many details to work out, but the major points of the deal were set and agreed to.

If the Maloofs really wanted to change the terms in multiple MAJOR ways, they should never have signed it. It was dishonest to do so. Stern and his people, AEG and the City were all set to honor the structure of this deal. Only the Maloofs trashed it. It was not a legally binding document, but when a person signs something like that, you are pledging your honor to fullfill your side of the agreement. If you shake hands on a deal, you are making a promise. Apparently, the Maloofs have no honor and their word or handshake are worth diddly-squat.

We knew the Maloofs had minimal brains and less business sense. Now we know they have zero honor and their promises are worthless. I will never believe a word out of their mouths again. How long have they promised to spend to make this a better team? Yeah, like I believe they have the money to do that anymore. I mean, geez, the league was going to give $7 million to the arena project for free and loan the Maloofs their required contribution to the arena on favorable terms. What idiots.

AEG is an internationally successful business with many stadiums and arenas under it's management. To think the loan economist from Orange County knows more about how good a deal this is than AEG is beyond incredulous. Economists are theorists making projections as an art, not a science. I'll take AEG's real world experience and direct knowledge and research as far more realistic. They obviously think Sacramento is a good market for a new arena and that the term sheet was acceptable.

Yeah, so was Gavin crying to further keep the mayor from getting embarrassed? Come on, just admit you guys thought the deal was done and then George squashed it.

uh that center court celebration is totally a Maloofs-style move. I seriously doubt it was only KJ with the idea and want to do it. The Maloofs love that sort of stuff.

Joe & Gavin certainly love the adoration - they want to be loved. I suppose we ought to have realized these guys have no tact and will leap before they look when they tried to lure Phil Jackson to Sac while they still had Adelman under contract.

I don't really keep up on how much the Maloofs are worth, but haven't they already lost the majority of the family fortune? Sold the beverage distributorship and lost control of the Palms? If George is the business brain behind this family, it seems he doesn't necessarily make good decisions.

Most of their worth is now tied to some quantity of Wells Fargo stock plus whatever they aren't leveraged on the Kings. I'm sure they all have healthy personal accounts too but running an NBA team is clearly beyond their means at this time.

Here's a scenario to be pondered. If the Maloofs were coming in as outsiders and wanted to buy a team, would the BOG approve them? Certainly an owner that doesn't have enough money to run an NBA team would not be OK'ed. So now what do you do? They have bought their way into an exclusive club and cannot be removed even if they are homeless, I presume. It was never considered by the rich men of the BOG that anyone of them could go broke I take it. Going broke is only for the ordinary folks.

That's the thing, they are only broke by NBA ownership standards.

They could downsize to MLS and maybe be very successful.
