I will be the first to admit that I wanted to make a coaching change before the Artest deal because this was a different team, and it was time for a fresh start. We need to get a more defensive minded coach. I no longer feel that way, and I am not ashamed to admit it. Regardless of what happens this season, Rick Adelman deserves to be here next year and beyond.
Here is what I got out of the conversation.. IT WILL BE A MIRACLE IF RICK ADELMAN IS COACHING THIS TEAM NEXT YEAR.
Based on this conversation and conversations in the past from both the Maloofs and Adelman, that relationship is very wounded. Just the tone of Adelman's voice and how he never called out the Maloofs by name and constantly refered to them as "OWNERSHIP" spoke volumes. There is some hurt there. And to me, just based on how the Maloofs have handled their business in the last two seasons, shows me that things are not the same. I don't think they want him back, and I don't think he wants to come back.
That to me is unfortunate.

With the turn around, and if the intensity keeps up, and they push into the playoffs after how the first 2/3 of this season went, Maloofs won't let him go. Especially since Artest is doing so good, and stable. You don't get rid of the person that soothes the soul of the beast.
He wasn't holding anything together the first 2/3 of the season, this team was awful. I think he gets enough credit. I'd put these wins more on the backs of Artest and his teammates than Adelman. Having said that, I also hope he is back next year with this same team.quick dog said:I think the fate of Adelman is more important to the Kings than any single player. The way he held this team together this year has been amazing. I think that Adelman sets the tone for the team, the way they play and act off the court. He clearly gets too little credit.

Look, we wouldn't even be having this conversation but for a few different bounces of the ball and some luck in 2002 vs the Lakers and had Horry missed that three or the Kings made a few more ft's in Game 7, Rick would be just as good a coach today as he is without a title. The Maloofs are very passionate about this team and their yelling at the coach to take a timeout is fine with me. It shows me that they are fans. Look at Larry Miller's realtionship with Jerry Sloan. And you thought that an owner yelling at a coach to take a timeout was over the top. I'm also not sold on the notion of bringing in a more defensive minded coach. Look at Larry Brown in NYC. Defense has more to do with the players than anything the coach is gong to tell them. The Kings were a very good defensive team a few years back because of the personnel of the team. Rick is better suited to guide this team than anyone else out there. Rick has a way with players and with the players we have now I think that he is a perfict fit. I will be very upset if he is not coaching this team next year.Purple Reign said:However, the Maloofs have an ego too. And I think they probably feel if they had a more defensive minded coach, they probably could do even greater things. I do not believe that. But I would not be surprised if that was their thinking.
Did anybody see the Inside the NBA Access with Ammad Rashad. I remember the show showing a game once and Joe Maloof was on the sideline just absolutely railing at Rick Adelman to call a timeout. Just the disgust in their voice alone kind of shocked me that that feeling would come from an owner towards their coach in public like that. I know they are fans too, but I thought ownership should be above the nom that fans spew out. Kind of put me on notice.

And once you realize that, realize Ron's history, realize how quickly he and Rick have bonded...well, it changes, or should change, the whole Adelman discussion. If no trades had been made this year and we had waddled on home sub-.500 with a mismatched passionless team, then Rick was gone. And as much as I might feel you'd be hard pressed to do much better, that would have been ok. Not much to save, need a new direction, as good a time as any. But now you've got the most volatile man in basketball leading your team, and he likes Rick, likes the trust put in him, and Rick is a great players coahc for his top guys. Now if you let Rick go...there is absolutely no limit to the bad that can come of it. You have to be so so careful not only to find another coach capable of getting a team to the Finals, but of finding another coach capable of reaching Ron. You simply cannot afford to have somebody who is going to clash wiht your franchise player, let alone THIS franchise player.
