reached a point where they were uncomfortable with rick

eric came in with a 100-150 page book about everything about the kings which surprised everybody

But for the first time (at least that I heard out of a Maloof mouth) that they just did not feel comfortable with Adelman anymore. That for the last 2 to 3 years, they have felt like that.

Sure, but hardly a surprise. They've said it in every way but saying it, and on a few occasions I'm pretty sure they've leaked stuff as well.

That whole "we didn't have our mind made up but had some sort of insto family meeting in the two hours before we fired him" line was always compelte B.S., and we all knew it.

I don't know if you can say with a level of certainty that it was BS the whole way. They were obviously uncomfortable with the guy, but as any smart business person would do, they wanted to give it one more serious thinking through. That way they could make sure that they were going the right way.

it was good to know his thoughts about golden state and how he could improve since then. on asked whether what was more important, relationships with players or x's and o's, he said that in golden state, he was a new head coach and was excited to win and paid all of his attention to x's and o's right off the bat. that led to chemistry problems between himself and the players later in the season. he has learned from that and he is calling all of the players this week and getting to know what they like and don't like and building relationships now so that when it comes time to actually work, the player relationships will already be there

Yes, the serious thinking through of two hours after a phone call? And obviously they never gave it a moments notice until that day/those hours, despite it lingering in the air like an unchanged diaper for a year at least? But THEN, after the 5 minute phone call, then they got the whole family togetehr for an in depth 2 hour consideration.

Total and complete B.S. Not even good B.S. I could/should give the Brothers Bozo some useful tips on lying.

That, BTW, is all you can hope for. People like to make excuses, but the fact is Muss flat out fired himself the first time around. Ignored the single most important aspect of coaching in the NBA. But he's a bright guy, and if he's not too stubborn or arrogant, he's a smart enough guy to analyze his failure and make adjustments. Here's hoping the above interview isn't just lip service. If he gets the people side of things figured out, he's already strong on the technical side and should be a good coach. If he does not, then he's probably better as a career assistant.

Didn't he proclaim right after his interview that he got the job?

I'm definitely concerned about this point... his arrogance is undeniable. I wouldn't doubt that's why Joe and Gavin like him so much. That, and he's an overenergetic fortysomething white guy (not suggesting racial discrimination in any way, just saying how similar he is to the Maloofs)...

He's definitely cocky and confident; however, that can be a good thing. Look at the coaches who have won championships (or might have after the finals) over the last 20+ years:

Larry Brown
Phil Jackson
Gregg Popovich
Rudy T
Avery Johnson
Pat Riley

With the exception of Rudy T, that's a very cocky list. As long as he can co-exist with the players and have them well prepared and well-coached, he doesn't have to be nice and modest.

I disagree Doc. At best, they probably got together for those couple of hours and confirmed it was time to axe RA as they had planned all along.

The only person he "proclaimed" it to was his agent in a private phone conversation. I've done the same thing after job interviews when I just knew I had the job nailed. I didn't have an agent, but I did tell my family ... and I was right.

IMHO people really need to quit trying to read so much into every single word out of someone's mouth.

During the season I said RA was 95% gone. Looking back it was 99%.

But was it 100%?? - well put it this way, if RA and Ron had taken the Kings to the finals and lost, would the Maloofs have given Rick another shot at it? Likely! - so that is why it becomes semantics about whether it was 100% or not.

Here's the two hour Maloof family conversation:
Maloof 1: Hey, so we should not re-sign Rick, right?
Maloof 2: That's what I'm thinking.
Maloof 3: Me too
Maloof 4: Zero times in finals, right?
Maloof 2: Right.
Maloof 5: I'll go along with the rest.
Maloof 6: Seems like it's time for someone new.
Maloof 1: O.K. we're settled
Maloof 6: Hey I think there's a cool 1:58 DVD movie that we could see together.
Maloofs 1-5:Cool!

There's two hours.
