Just renewed my international league pass and looking foreward to the new so season so thought id start a thread aimed at making predictions. With the season getting closer and closer we're getting a better idea of how the team is shaping up so I thought it would be a good time 2 gauge expectation.
First of all Il start by giving my opinions on players specifically and how they think they might pan out this season.
Demarcus Cousins
I saw on another website a thread asking whether they thought DMC was going 2 have a "breakout year". Now I don't know what the common consensus is here or in any other basketball forum but I was under the impression that DMC was already a force 2 b reckoned with. Maybe I have the definition of "breakout year" wrong but I don't think this upcoming season needs 2 be anything of the sort. If anything I feel last year was the biggest year for Demarcus. Anyway I think this year will still b a very good 1 for big cuz I expect his PPG to at least stay at a similar level or increase and hopefully his efficiency will get better. I'd love 2 see 1 or 2 new post moves added 2 his offensive arsenal (maybe a hook shot?). I wouldn't be surprised 2 see his rebounds per game go down however this may not necessarily be a bad thing. A mixture of better team efficiency and Thomas Robinson living up 2 his name as a rebound guzzler should lead 2 less rebounds 4 Demarcus. On defence I hope 2 see a slight improvement but am not expecting miracles I already think he's a slightly underrated defender.
Tyreke Evans
Firstly I think reke is judged by harsh standards for reasons unknown to myself. He averaged 16.5/4.5/4.5 and in some forums he's a bust who isn't worth role players. Anyway my opinion is Tyreke will and should start at SG and average 35 mins between there and point. By the sounds of things he's been working on his jumper all offseason, therefore I expect an improvement to his range. Don't get me wrong I don't expect him to be raining threes come November but I really hope his mid-range game will be significantly improved. This could be the difference between this team and playoff contention. Defensively I feel like he has massive potential and hope that if he is moved to the 2 he can realise some of that potential and begin the journey to becoming a lock down defender.
Thomas Robinson
I feel like theres a lot of unpredictability when it comes to rookies so I'm reluctant to make any definitive statements. I will say however that he seems like a very hard working, high character guy. Therefore if this guy had the potential that hes reputed to have then we could have a stud on our hands. Let's not get ahead of ourselves tho.
Jimmer
I'm usually a fairly patient guy and don't endorse brash and hasty moves but to be frank last year Jimmer just wasn't anywhere near good enough. Unless he's thoroughly improved over the summer than I can't see him getting much playing time behind Thomas, Brooks, Thornton and Evans. Therefore I think it may be best for all parties if he is traded at some point during the season while he still has some sort of market value. I'm not the best at suggesting trades so I won't try
Marcus Thornton
I like Thornton and appreciate his 3pt range which this team definitely needs therefore I really hope he relishes in this 6th man role most people seem to predict him to have this season. If he cannot/will not accept a different role i think he should be traded as I'm o the opinion that Evans is the better player.
Other players such as Jason Thompson, Chuck Hayes and Travis Outlaw will hopefully make minor improvements but I expect them to stay and varying levels of role playing status.
Overall I expect the team to get at least 30 wins (anything less would be a major disappointment in my eyes) playing with significantly better defence. 33-36 wins I think Is realistic. I hope we play some entertaining stuff and make most games competitive if not then I don't know how much more cellar dwelling the fan base can take
