Pre-Olympic Game

Thanks, that beats what I was watching. Didn't see that when I was scanning the channels earlier.

Yeppers. I DVR'd it and watched it earlier today. Our last pre-event match is Tuesday morning at 5 a.m. against Australia. I love my Dexter! (The name I gave my DVR since it was the show Dexter that I didn't want to miss...)

One of these days, I gotta look for a cheap DVR that will record. I only have a DVR player. :(

Actually, this is the replay. But it's a GOOD game.
Now I'll remember to keep my eyes off the bottom line since the programming geniuses never think that maybe I don't want to see the final score until the end of the broadcast :)

LOL.....I know what you mean.

Sure is nice to see these guys work together. Kobe says a gold medal would mean more to him than his 3 NBA Championship rings.

wade has been playing amazing in these games off the bench...

Yes, Wade has done a great job. He is definitely committed to the team concept, as are others.

I know they have to keep the offense pretty simple. They have begun to work well together. There was one spot (I think early in the 3rd if I remember correctly) when they slipped into a bit to much one on one play and did not move the ball very well. They could have kept it more basic at times (especially in the 4th) when they did a bit too much showboating. They will improve on that when they remember that the focus should not be on the highlight reels, but on the gold. Overall, I think they are doing just that.

I was definitely encouraged and I expect they will continue to improve together.

I'm very encouraged by this group of young men. Despite some of them being totally immersed in "SUPESTAR" type adoration at home, they have (for the most part) put their egos aside and truly made it about TEAM USA.

Do any of you know the starting line-up? Or is it just pretty random every game?

Basically the starters have been the same for all the practice pre-Olympic games:

PG Kidd
SG Bryant
C Howard
SF James
PF Anthony

In many games various reserves have ended up playing a bit more total minutes than some of the so-called starters. Also, Anthony and James switch positions a lot.

Of all of them, I have to admit that Carmelo Anthony still impresses me the least.

ok thanks, yea i kinda figured most of them would play similar minutes, but i was just curious at who they had out there to start.

I agree. The commentator brought up that he's not a good man defender, and he's correct. Melo also still takes too many bad shots outside of the offense.

I have been most impressed with Wade thus far, particularly his defense. The team defense has been spectacular thus far, and is actually how they manufacture a majority of their points.

Really? I havent seen a game yet. Im not questioning you but, that just seems hard to believe I just remember in the qualifiers he just exploded every game and was the high scorer in just about all of them, and was the mvp for them.

carmelo hasnt been that bad.... he was actually pretty good up until the last game against russia... he has been the only one who hasnt tried to be the superstar.... probably because he is playing out of position.... when lebron plays pf he struggles too. theyd be better off starting bosh at pf and bring wade and anthony off the bench... who really wants to see carmelo guard dirk or gasol? especially since kaman is the center for the german team...

the least impressive player has been kidd, he is basically coatailing it to another gold medal.... its also crazy how chris paul leads the team in minutes coming off the bench.

Hmmm. Interesting but not very accurate IMHO.

Carmelo hasn't done squat on defense; in fact he's more of a liability than just about anyone else on D. As far as him being "the only one who hasn't tried to be the superstar," I guess you must be watching a different game than I've watched. I've watched some HUGE superstars leave their egos behind and play TEAM ball. And some of them are much bigger stars than Anthony could ever even dream of being. You make it sound as though Melo is some sort of solitary role model in a team of selfishness and that simply isn't true.

he just hasnt been making his shots... he's always wide open from behind the arc but he just doesnt make many of them. he is also getting decent looks from the post but not converting them. ak47 blocked 2 easy baskets that melo had in the paint. he isnt a pf and it shows..... boozer or bosh would have killed for some of those looks, though bosh was getting hacked every time he touched the ball....

I will agree that playing him out of position doesn't make a whole lot of sense at times. The other thing that puzzles me is Coach K's apparent misunderstanding about timeouts. Does he think he cannot call any until the Olympics actually start?

;)

the announcers were talking about that too.... coach k wants them to play it out which is fine but they would have a easier time doing it if they had a timeout to talk it over...

Playing through it was one of Adelman's philosophies and it doesn't always work. I saw a couple of times where our players just weren't on the same page and a judicious time out could have put things back on the right track a lot more quickly. Sure, we're blowing opponents off the court but the competition is going to get a lot tougher and I think the players need to know that Coach K is actually paying attention and notices when they do something wrong.

yeah.... and why does he play chris paul and deron williams together and give kidd 10 minutes a game? with the way that the team plays it almost seems as if kidd and carmelo shouldnt be starting.... kidds passing isnt as necessary with all of those players in the starting lineup... paul should start....
