Potential Free Agent/Trade/Sign Tracker, '25-'26 Season

If you read New Arena’s post, he mentioned he considered Davion a liability but the Heat who I’m referring to dont seem to have a problem with him…..and they are much tougher than Sac and much more committed to defense than Sac. Either you misread or I didn’t articulate well enough.
His toughness and commitment are not to be questioned. Two things can be true at the same time and none of that negates my opinion that he is in fact a liability if you plan on playing him meaningful minutes in the post season as a key cog.

I know it's big, but I think this makes good sense for everyone involved.

Particularly for us, we get our target (Kuminga) while at the same time opening more offensive opportunity for him & others (since DeRozan is also being shipped out). And in exchange, we don't receive any guards or wings in return. Only forwards (Anderson & Martin) to help rebalance the roster.

Unfortunately, this probably would result in Westbrook being signed which then immediately creates a guard log jam again and likely squeezes out someone like Carter, Clifford, etc. from the rotation...

A smart team has him at SG dumb teams like the kings put him at SF to make the team small
I think it just depends on the rest of the roster. If you have Keon/Nique/Keegan at 2-4, you will be somewhat small.. But if you have a big defensive center, and a decent size point guard, we just saw a lot of playoff teams go this route. I'm not opposed to him being a backup wing and covering multiple spots.

Ya we’d need a Wemby/Chet at center in that lineup… if Nique hits its best he’s at sg giving him size advantage

Long term the only 3 i'm confident in on the roster are Nique, Keon, Murray. In a perfect world, I think if those 3 take up all of your 2/3 minutes. But we've been asking for Keegan to be a 3 for 2 years and we got Demar. So I can't imagine we get our wish anytime soon.

Nique is a wing, I'm not sure why people keep trying to pigeonhold him as a guard. If Summer League is any indication, we plan to play him as a wing this season too.

Also, traditional positions are just stupid anyway, but most people aren't ready for that conversation

The old days of traditional positions are done. Now it’s just get 5 guys out there who can play together on both ends.

I think positions died with the death of post players. You just need guys to fill roles: wing defenders, poa defender, ball handlers, playmakers, shooters, on ball shot creation, rim protection. It doesn't matter where or who these come from

I don’t understand why we don’t re-sign Lyles. I get he isn’t a defensive wing, but we have so few wing. Should we just let our wings walk?

That's the thing though, he's not a wing at all, he's a stretch 4/5. Ah, been there done that going nowhere with it. He needs to find a team that he can fit with and get time.

Just read he signed overseas. Makes sense, players like him are more valued there

Fine stretch 4-5. The fact is 2/3rd of the team are combo guards.

Positions don't really matter, but length and athleticism still do. If we had 4 Keegan Murrays nobody would be arguing positions. But when we have a roster full of guards and 1 forward and 1 center, you are in trouble.

I think asking Keegan Murray to play C and PG would be disastrous. So maybe the better description would be "some positions don't matter"?

Just another example of us being a poverty franchise imo.
We just paid Dennis, McDermott and Eubanks more money than what Lyles got. Perhaps they are hoping that Isaac Jones would be better than Lyles. Personally, in addition to IJ, I'd rather have JV + Lyles over Eubanks + Saric + McDermott.

We're a poverty franchise in the sense that Vivek would never get into luxury tax but that is understandable. A significant portion of income for the Kings comes from other teams paying luxury tax and there is no reason to get into luxury tax territory unless we have a championship contending roster. That's why I don't care about the first or second apron for the Kings because the only thing that matters is the luxury tax space.
