Any scenario that sees us with Ben Simmons on the roster, I have ZERO interest in entertaining.
Even if he were close to free? He does look pretty roasted and toasted the last number of seasons.

This is a big summer for Carter and Jones. They are close to ready for prime time, they've already shown it, so hopefully they take it seriously and have a very productive summer.
How many picks would we be getting back to suffer through 3 years of PG vs one or two of LaVine? Does Philly actually have anything attractive or did they blow it all trying to get Embiid over the top? What do you guys think about the idea of trading LaVine for Paul George + picks? It would probably mean a 3-4 year rebuild plan since we'd be stuck with PG for the next 3 years. It would also probably mean a full-on rebuild because I don't think our current higher-end guys would appreciate sucking that long.
Jones is interesting because if he is going to make an impact with us he needs to bring it defensively. He had a few highlight plays but mostly got cooked on that end. If he can take a big leap defensively he could be a part of the rotation for sure. He is a plus garbage man on offense and he gets to the line. More than enough to be part of the rotation if he can use that length on defense.
To be fair to Lyles, wasn't he hurt?In the end Jones should be playing summer league with the goal to replace Lyles. Jones was playing well enough to not be taken out of the rotation. Hopefully the Kings young guys being placed in and out at various points was planned and part of whatever development scheme they had. Keon was the same way. They took it a little more slowly with him as well. Lyles was having like 3 solid months of really mediocre play before the April run of contract play kicked in.

I expect something that (or someone who) is received for free to be somewhat functioning and useful.Even if he were close to free? He does look pretty roasted and toasted the last number of seasons.
Eh I wouldn’t say it’s too risky considering we’re not sending out any of our own 1sts. The luxury of sending out those picks is we can still pivot to a rebuild if needed while not having to worry about any of our picks belonging to another team. That would likely put this team in that 8 year rebuild window. Johnson wasn't getting firsts before, he shouldn't now. Gafford is solid but while they would help, the Kings aren't guaranteed to be those level of players away from jack. Too risky, not enough return.
Wait…why?Any scenario that sees us with Ben Simmons on the roster, I have ZERO interest in entertaining.
Yeah, I like the idea of trying to take a stab at Nico and take advantage of him this summer. They have quite a few ancillary pieces that would fit us well and he clearly has no idea what he's doing. Can easily see him parting with pjw/gafford/naji for "bigger name" players
I have a really hard time seeing DAL giving up PJ Washington for DeRozan.Who knows what they'd go for but if the Kings could parlay DeMar into PJ that would solve a lot of issues for both teams.
If that’s all we get for Domas, who as far as we know actually wants to be here and hasn’t made Atlanta his only destination, Scott Perry deserves to be fired into the Sun lol
Yeah you and I have been the biggest Carter fanboys since day 1 so no disagreement from me hereYeah, the difference between Ellis and Carter is the pick and roll ability. Again, if you compare their college years in almost every area Carter projected far higher than Ellis in almost every area hence why he was where he was in the big boards. Ellis looks like a 3 and D guy through and through, we'll see where Carter goes but his potential is certainly as a legit pick and roll scorer. Does he get the chance or develop? We'll see.
If a player can't score in pick and roll they're going to be limited to spot shooting or limited off the dribble. Keegan is the same way but he's starting to use his body to create separation. It's only one real game with this last play in, but the question with an Ellis defensively is what can he get away with? I brought it up before, players that play handsy defense tend to have very up and down postseasons. Refs aren't going to let you swipe down at every star when they make their move. They will however let you play physical defense. Carter plays classic winning defense. With is chest. He locks onto his man, denies the ball, and he doesn't just play passing lanes. The thing we have look at as it goes forward is what kind of strength and size Carter adds with a proper summer to workout. There was a play in the Dallas game where PJ tested him and immediately decided that was unwise. Carter is learning the ropes and was really trying to pull out the flop at times. Flopping on offense is the way to go, defensively he just needs to stay strong and lock in. On the screens he's getting respect though. That flopping has worked so far. One on one, probably not. He might want to cut that out.
I don’t think CHA would want DeRozan, but I agree that I do like this trade the best this far (and signing Ben Simmons of courseThat's actually a pretty solid why not. Charlotte straight across for DeMar or maybe even Domas could be a decent trade partner.

Kings fans and hating their own players. Name a more iconic duo
I have a really hard time seeing DAL giving up PJ Washington for DeRozan.
I think they want to move forward with a frontcourt of Washington, Davis, and Lively which is a giant frontcourt with a crazy amount of length, athleticism, and defense. I also think they need Washington’s shooting at the 3 to make sure the floor is decently spaced on offense.

best rebounder in the game, second best passing big man, 19 points a game, ultimate warrior on the court. Shoots 40 percent from 3. If defending the rim is the deal breaker at center then try something else (different front court partner) before shipping him off for role players and a pick.

When I compare the potential between Carter and Ellis, I see it this way…
- Shooting = advantage Ellis
- Scoring = advantage Carter
- Ballhandling = advantage Carter
- Passing = advantage Carter
- PnR Play = advantage Carter
- Rebounding = advantage Carter
- Screening = advantage Carter
- Cutting = advantage Carter
- On Ball Defense = advantage Carter
- Passing Lane Defense = advantage Ellis
- Defensive Rotations = neutral
- Rim Protection = advantage Carter
- Length = neutral
- Strength = advantage Carter
- Quickness = advantage Carter
- Speed = advantage Carter
- Vertical = advantage Carter
As you can see, I think Carter can be better than Ellis in most categories. However, shooting is so crucial in today’s game. Carter really needs to be respectable/solid in that category which will then at least allow Carter to be a very good role player. And if he continues to develop his offensive game, ballhandling, PnR play, etc., he has the potential to be more than just a role player (especially with his combination of length, strength, quickness, speed, and vertical).

Although I’ve been championing for him today, I do have to admit that I haven’t seem him play much this year so I could be convinced to move on if he’s looking cooked these days. However, he is putting up these per 36 min stats…Even if he were close to free? He does look pretty roasted and toasted the last number of seasons.
If I’m reading the protections on their picks corrrectly, I think PHI could trade 3 1sts.How many picks would we be getting back to suffer through 3 years of PG vs one or two of LaVine? Does Philly actually have anything attractive or did they blow it all trying to get Embiid over the top?

If he combines that with excellent defense and comes here on a cheaper deal, why not?
Well they didn’t have Irving so there’s that, but I think DeRozan can be had for other players not named PJW (IMO).It sure did look like the Mavs could have used a DeRozan. You're probably right though.

As a very vocal opponent to Simmons in the past, I have also said on a vet min deal - why not? If he doesn't perform he sits with no real financial penalty. My opposition has generally been that he couldn't get on the floor and his contract was huge.Wait…why?
We’re not talking about Ben Simmons on a max deal here and we’re not talking about trading/giving up assets to get him. He’s going to be a UFA this offseason. We’d simply be able to sign him. Not to mention his fit with our roster would appear to be solid as he addresses many of our problems (PG, defense, size/length, athleticism).
Part of me just wants to throw Carter to the fire and start him at PG next season.Haha, it's not even about being a fanboy, it's fact. I still think the long term goal should be Carter and Keon together in the backcourt. I posted the two man lineup stats over the last 10 games (when the games were most critical) and they were by far the best two man combo on the entire team. The Kings better be looking at things like that. Also the other advantage for Carter is his ability to get over screens. One of the most important factors in any POA defender is not having to blitz every screen, go under, or contest from behind.
Common ground at last!As a very vocal opponent to Simmons in the past, I have also said on a vet min deal - why not? If he doesn't perform he sits with no real financial penalty. My opposition has generally been that he couldn't get on the floor and his contract was huge.
Same issue I have with Zion. If he can stay on the floor (healthy), sure. If he hasn't proven that but can be had for cheap at some point, sure. But that combination of price and availability is critical for me to buy off on such a move.
My position has always been that the cost for such flawed superstars, especially the oft-injured, is just too high a price for the minimal likely return. As an engineer, the price-performance balance was just WAY too far out of whack to be logical. If you are playing NBA 2K, sure, go for it. But in the real world, with YEARS of impacts both financial and personnel impact, it just never made sense other than as the same kind of gamble as betting it all on a very bad poker hand. If you hit on that <5% chance, great. But the house almost always wins and I'm not willing to gamble on the chronically injury-ridden.Common ground at last!![]()
