Postgame Quotes-vs. Seattle

Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“That was really a solid win for us and our guys came out with a lot of energy. Offensively we were really good with 36 assists and 11 turnovers, you’d take that every night. We were active defensively and they hurt us on the boards, which we knew they were going to do. They have five guys that just hammer you the whole time and it’s tough to keep them off, but I thought overall our effort was very good. With guys off the bench, Darius (Songaila), and Eddie (House) was terrific when he filled in for Mike (Bibby). It was just a game we needed to get and hopefully we can build on this and go up to Portland and play a solid game up there.”

“That’s what we have to have. I talked to them this morning about the fact that with these seven games you’ve got to come together, so that when we get to the playoffs and you know how they are, they are going to be physical, they are going to be much more intense and you’re going to have good periods and bad periods, and you have to trust each other on both ends of the court that you are going to get through those times. I thought that there have been times recently where we haven’t done that and we are kind of looking at the other guy like it’s not my fault. I know it’s everybody, offensively and defensively, so I think it’s a time that if we can just establish ourselves and have a consistent effort time after time, it’s going to be really helpful when we get to the playoffs.”

“I was more concerned that we would play them better than we have before. We lost a game here before because we gave up offensive rebounds in the last three minutes. I was more concerned because this team we have has not played Seattle.”

“Obviously, you guys see the game once and I see it three times, so I know that there are a lot of areas where we are hurting right now and I do believe that when you get to the playoffs it’s a different scenario because you can lock in. You have time to practice and time to create some type of scheme the guys get used to seeing. Unfortunately, the people you play up above, those four teams are all very good and they are all flexible and they can hurt you in a lot of ways. I don’t really know because our other team was very intelligent with Brad (Miller) and Chris (Webber) and Vlade (Divac) and they could sense what was going on and we could find out our niche. This team is going to be a little different but I do believe our assistants are going to come up with game plans.”

Mike Bibby:
“We played like I said we needed to play. We played together offensively and defensively. We shot the ball better and got the stops when we needed to and came out on top.”

“We know we’re capable of playing, we’ve just got to go out and do it. The confidence level has always been there, but sometimes we don’t always come to play.”

“We need to run a little bit more, play together, and that’s all.”

Kenny Thomas:
“We played pretty good defense and got out to a pretty big, comfortable lead. If we come out and play like that the whole game I don’t think anybody can beat us, especially if we’re hitting shots.”

“I think this was one of the best times (we’ve played since I’ve got here). We came out with a lot of energy, we’ve just got to keep it up these last few games, and go into the playoffs with the same kind of energy.”

“It’s over. We’ve just got to forget this and just come in and practice tomorrow thinking that we’re going to come out on Friday and do the same thing.”

“They (the Sonics) don’t even have all their guys. They don’t have Rashard (Lewis) and (Vladimir Radmanovic). It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens as far as who is going to play. But we can’t think about that right now, we’ve still got to finish off these last few games.”

SEATTLE SONICS

Head Coach Nate McMillan
“Just defensively we couldn’t stop anybody tonight and they were shooting the ball extremely well, but you have to get some stops. We gave them a 38-point second quarter, a 32-point third quarter, and I don’t know, 27 in the first. We have to get some stops defensively and try to create some easy opportunities for us. When everybody is hitting like they were tonight, you’re playing a half court game, their zoning in on your key guys, and forcing other guys to play. You just have to create easy opportunities for yourself and we were not.”

Did they come out with a point to prove?
“They had to. I mean they were definitely were coming out playing for playoff position. The fact that we’ve beaten them three times; they had to come out and play aggressive. It’s that time of the year though. You have to raise your level of play this time of the year. I thought for the most part we gave the effort. We have to go out and believe we can win. We’re short handed. We have to believe we can win and we have to do the things necessary.”

On giving up so many points in the paint in the last 2 games:
“That’s a good question. You have to keep your body in front of the ball. Teams have shot the ball well. This team shot 57 (percent) from the floor and 57 (percent) from the three. You have to get closer when guys are shooting the ball and they are hot. When we do that we’re breaking down and we’re giving up penetration. We just have to work hard at that.”

Center Jerome James
Were you surprised?
“Not at all. Sacramento, once they traded C-Webb [Chris Webber], they basically moved to a spread the floor offense. The guards are the dominant players on the floor, no more inside post up team. It’s more like Phoenix’s team, just run down and look for the open shot, and try to outscore the person playing defense.”

“Throughout the night these guys were very hot. They hit everything. The only thing I think we could’ve done better is overplay the perimeter and force them to drive. This is the first night I think I had one foul and that’s not common. Put them in the paint and let the big man hit him.”

Danny Fortson
“That’s just the way we all play. I think JJ [Jerome James] and Reggie [Evans], they don’t get enough credit for playing that way. All the big guys, we play hard. Play hard to win.”

About going against Corliss Williamson:
“Of course it’s not fun, but someone has to do it. I have a sore shoulder and I’m pretty sure he’s sore right now; it’s March. It’s good that we didn’t get the stick on each other.”

I heard this quote...Kenny Thomas actually said "They don't have Rashard and...how do you say that guy's name??"
Reporter: "Radmanovic?"
Kenny Thomas: "Yeah! They don't have him too."
