Postgame Quotes-vs. Orlando
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“It was a good win, a good win. I thought we had the chance to open it up and make it easier, but they made that run there in the third quarter and made it difficult. We did enough things to get the win and that’s what we have to keep doing.”
“We are trying to adjust and find out what is going to work with the guys that we have now. The whole thing was based on Chris (Webber), Vlade (Divac) and Brad (Miller) and now we are trying to tweak it to have the guards involved more and figure out how we can get guys more shots. We are just going to keep doing it until we can get it covered.”
When asked about the third quarter offense:
“Like I said, we weren’t very good. What we started doing was just standing around. I think the offense consisted of Mike (Bibby) dribbling to the wing and then …him picking it up and throwing it. There was just no movement. Just because we don’t have those guys we still have to make moves, we still have to make cuts and I just thought we got real complacent and real lethargic in the third quarter.”
“(Skinner) is just real solid and he’s so active. He got us going early in the game again – he challenges shots, pursues balls off the board, and he just keeps playing. We are very happy with the way he played and he made a couple of very nice passes tonight when we had guys cutting. Kenny (Thomas) can pass the ball too, it’s just them getting comfortable and understanding what’s going to be there. You can’t make the obvious pass the way we play because like this team they sent their weak side big guy over to pick up cutters. So you have to find the next guy and that’s the hardest thing for these guys to understand.”
Cuttino Mobley:
“It’s just another game. It may be the first time we’ve beat them, but after a while it’s just another game.”
“Just playing solid. I think Mike (Bibby) and myself need to assert ourselves a little faster in the beginning of the game, which would make it easier for the rest of the guys. They carried us in the first half because Mike and I only had six (points). Mike hit some big threes in the fourth and tried to ‘gap’ it a little for us. Definitely you need strong production from the backcourt.”
“I’m always going to be banged up because of how I play. Sooner or later it will leave but I’m not going to worry about that.”
On playing a little one-on-one with former teammate Steve Francis:
“Well, I’m a little more aggressive in the summer time. I don’t have to be aggressive right now because we’ve got so many scorers. We know each other and pull each other and everything like that. But like I said, we’re a little more aggressive in the summer time. We go at it a little more and it’s a lot more fun.”
On the defense of Kenny Thomas and Darius Songaila against Dwight Howard:
“It was huge. Those guys (Thomas and Songaila) are good. They compliment each other. One comes out, one goes in, it’s not like you’re not losing anything.”
Peja Stojakovic:
“I just hope that each and every game I’m going to feel better. Not just for me as a person, but as a whole group. We’ve got new guys and we’ve got to learn about each other.”
“The way we move the ball, the way we defend. We made a huge run at the end of the second quarter and it was a good win for us.”
“It’s different. Our basketball style was different five or six years ago. We had big men who could pass, and now with the injury of Brad Miller. Our big men were always capable of passing. I’m not saying our new guys aren’t capable, it’s just different and they haven’t learned the system yet and it’s a different game for them. I think as the games go by, we’ve got to learn each others’ games and we’ll be better.”
ORLANDO MAGIC
Coach Johnny Davis
“We didn’t really get into the game until the second half, and with a good team like Sacramento, you can’t go down like that with them and try to crawl your way back.”
Is Grant Hill O.K.?
“As far as I know, but right now I think he’s O.K. I have to go find out too.”
“We wanted to run when we had those opportunities, but when we don’t have the running opportunities we want to have a good half-court set. Depending on the flow of the game, ideally we like to run and create pressure. But the story tonight wasn’t the lack of offense, but the lack of defense, particularly in the first half.”
“I think [Mike] Bibby hit a couple of threes’ and turned the game right back into Sacramento’s favor. But again, we crawled back into the game in the second half, but we didn’t have enough to overtake them. They played good basketball and shot the ball very well. In the first half I thought that we didn’t take the game to them. We let them take the game to us.”
Tony Battie
“They played extremely well and they shot the ball well. We had a nice comeback in the second half. We were down and we got it back to six or four, but they put out that fire a little bit and went back on another run so it was a little hard to sustain that comeback. They’ve got great shooters like [Peja] Stojakovic and [Mike] Bibby and they got hot down the stretch, so they played well.”
About Bibby in the fourth:
“This is his backyard and it seems like everything he puts up is not even touching the rim. He got into a little groove and it was hard to stop.”
Steve Francis
“Turnovers killed us. There were too many crucial situations where we had to get a play and we turned the ball over. Mike Bibby came down here (with) huge shots for their team. Our coach can do whatever, he can draw up all the plays, give us all the strategies, but we’re out there playing. (There was) twenty-four turnovers uncalled for and not being able to buckle down on defense in crucial situations is uncalled for. It’s sad because I thought in the second half we played hard, but we didn’t get the results that we wanted.”
“We’re definitely below .500 for the first time, but I still see a potential there. I just want all of my teammates including myself to know that our coach is our coach, but we’re out here on that court and that’s what we have to do.”
