Postgame Quotes-vs. LA Clippers

rick_adelman.jpg
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“ I am not really sure what you can say, it was a huge shot by Mike (Bibby). The Clippers really played well, they shot the ball well, they hurt us inside. We just stayed with it and we get close, a lot of credit in that fourth quarter. Fronting the guy and not letting him have it, we were active on the weak side and they made some shots when they swung it over the top but he didn’t let the guy get the ball. That was huge for us and then obviously the last play by Mike (Bibby). After throwing the ball away and then not fouling him when we had a foul to give when they were coming back the other way but, another big shot by Mike.”

“Who put the ball in his hands? I mean I am not stupid even though a lot of people think I am but I knew he was going to have the ball. I thought we had a really good opportunity because they had two big guys in the game guarding Corliss (Williamson) and Kenny (Thomas) and I thought if they were going to jump out on that and Mike saw that he was high and he just crossed over. I was right even with him, when he let it go and if he was going to be short it was going in. He has such a great, quick release on his shot when he goes up like that. I tell you the play that really turned the game was the fast break and three point play that (Bibby) played. That was a great shot. It was a great win for us.”

Cuttino Mobley:
"Today Mike (Bibby) said (before the last play), ‘give me the (expletive) ball.’ He just took it upon himself. Sometimes that’s what you need.”

“He (Bibby) made a move and shook him (the defender) and stopped on a dime. That’s a hard move to do and he’s one of the best at it.”

On whether Bibby is now the leader of this team:
“Definitely. We have so many good players on this team. But you need to have that general, you need to have that great point guard, and that’s what Mike is.”

Mike Bibby:
“It felt good but I didn’t know, (if it was going to me). I didn’t feel like I snapped enough. But the flight looked good, and I’m glad it went in.”

“I was thinking the game was over after we got that rebound, but there was a turnover. It kind of hurt us at first, but luckily we came out with the win.”

“They (Williamson and Thomas) are our rough-nosed, rough-necked people. They played hard when they get in there, and they do the dirty work and that’s what we need. They’re playing hard, they’re scoring for us. Kenny and Corliss were just quicker than the other big men.”

“They (Houston Rockets) are right on our heels. I told everybody, we need this game and we need the next game even more.”

“I told Cuttino (Mobley) to try and get it (the ball) to me. I gave that little hesitation and acted like I was going to the basket and he (the defender) backed off a little bit so it opened up a jump shot.”

“We needed this game. I wish we could have gotten it before (the last shot), but we got it after.”

LA CLIPPERS

Head Coach Mike Dunleavy
“Our guys did a nice job and they did a lot of great things out there tonight. Unfortunately this has happened to us a lot this year and it’s just too bad.”

“We were just supposed to switch it because they had all guys on the floor out there that could make shots, so he’s not going to leave his guy. Why leave him? All we wanted to do was force him back. We made a substitution, we had our best defender on him, and we knew where the ball was going. We wanted them to put the ball on the floor and then switch it and hope to get a real contested shot. We were just a little bit over anxious and let them beat us back instead of using the pick. They beat us back to the other side of it where it was clear and there was no help. He’s [Mike Bibby] made a number of big shots.”

Rick Brunson
“When I saw them throw that pass with the chance to get it, it wasn’t pretty smart, but they did it. We had no time outs, I looked at the clock, we had enough time so I just tried to hit the floor quickly as possible. I was trying to create something towards the basket. When I went to the hole they collapsed and I saw Bobby [Simmons].”

Quinton Ross
“It’s tough man, we played well and for [Mike Bibby] to make that shot it just hurts.” I hoped that it didn’t go in, but it went in so you have to deal with it.”

Elton Brand
“I got into foul trouble and there were some questionable calls that didn’t go our way, but I still thought we had it. I still think the team played hard. We made mistakes, but we played hard, so I thought we had that one.”

“They came back off some of our mistakes and you have to give it to Mike Bibby. It’s his second game winner in as many games right?”

Corey Maggette
“It’s tough. The team played hard and we did a lot of good things. You have to credit Mike Bibby. He is a hell of a player and he’s the core of this team. He’s the backbone of this team. He’s been putting the weight on his shoulders and the last two times he hit game winning shots. I’m still mind boggled about it. Great players hit great shots and he did.”

i love how they edit out the bad grammar in the quotes...

i specifically remember Mike saying...

“They (Houston Rockets) are right on our heels. I told everybody, we need this game and we need the next game even WORSE.”

but in those quotes they have him saying even MORE...which ofcourse would be the correct way of saying it...and Mike is right we do need to the game on Sunday even more...that really could propel us into a even longer win streak...the Rockets are ballin right now...coming off of 3 big wins

I did like this line from RA...the man cracks me up...

"I mean I am not stupid even though a lot of people think I am..."

Beleve me if the writers editors and proof readers did NOT edit the grammar of ball players not only would the players look like compleet idiots, but the text would be about as readable as Grapes of Wrath. When interviewd on TV and radio it sounds bad but the grammar is not out there for critical evaluation for more than a few seconds so most of us let it go, we understand what they meant and thats good enough. As a speech instructor I am ocasionaly supprised by the players who use GOOD grammar. Brian Skinner, is supprisingly articulate. The depressing thing is seeing a guy come in to the NBA with decenet or acceptable speech and watching him deteriorate in to jumbled slang trying to look tough and develop street crediblity. Wathicng interviews with Kobe Bryant his first year and then look at more recent interviews and you will see what I mean.

Pretty good for a non-ALL-STAR ;)
I hope that fans and coaches remember these games during the next All-Star voting.

its a shame that bibbys efoorts just now probably wont be remembered come all star 2006. i thought he should have been in it this year anyway
