Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“Obviously, it’s really disappointing. We played so well for three quarters, and in the fourth quarter, we just disintegrated. You’re not going to win in this league when you make the decisions we made and turn the ball over, and all that stuff happened in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter. It’s hard to figure out when you’re playing a team that has two guys who can take the game over.”

“I think it all started with the last possession with three seconds left on the clock. We weren’t switching anything with Tracy McGrady on Shareef (Abdur-Rahim) with three seconds to go, and you give up a wide open three, and it all started from there. We just turned it over so unnecessarily. I really couldn’t believe it. You’re not going to win in this league (if you play like that); everyone knows that. It’s just too bad. They put so much effort into it, and we didn’t finish the game.”

“A loss is a loss. We made a lot of strives. We knew what they were going to do, we moved the ball really well, and then suddenly, I just can’t explain it. We tried a lot of different things and everything we tried we disintegrated. In the last five minutes we got some really good shots but we couldn’t make a shot. It’s just frustrating.”

“We have to go out and go back and play like we did tonight and get a win. I’m going to go back and look at the tape and get these guys and try to get them ready for Seattle. It’s a long NBA season. If I recall last year, Chicago started out one and ten or one and eleven. If I recall Denver started out really bad and turned it around. That’s what you have to do – you have to turn it around; you can’t feel sorry for yourself. You can’t say, “We should have won that one.” You have to realize what you did well and what you didn’t do well. You have to come back against Seattle and try and put the same effort out there. You can’t give in, you can’t quit on it – you can’t quit on each other. You just have to go back and do it. There are 82 games scheduled and we still have 63 left.”

Corliss Williamson
“We had some turnovers and were missing some shots. Houston took it to another level on the offensive end. It’s kind of frustrating because we came out and played the way we wanted to play for about 3 ½ quarters. To end the game the way we did is a little frustrating. We did make strides and it’s not like our effort wasn’t there. We had a lack of mental concentration at times toward the end of the game, but that’s something we can learn from and build.”

“Until we get that win in the books, there’s no way we can start feeling comfortable about how we were playing during this game. It’s just frustrating when you put forth the effort and can’t come out with the win. We still have to stay together as a team and play hard and find a way out of this. It may be nice to get away for a day or two (in Seattle) and try and see if we can get a win. Getting away on the road can always spur you on to a winning streak.”

Mike Bibby
“We stopped executing (in the 4th quarter). They’re all hard to take – I hate losing. Four losses in a row hurts and it’s embarrassing. We owe our fans better than this and we’ll see if we can get back on track in Seattle. (Coach Adelman) said we played hard but we just didn’t execute in the 4th quarter. We had good chemistry throughout the game until it came to the 4th quarter. We started doing dumb stuff. We had a big lead but we just didn’t hold on to it.”

HOUSTON ROCKETS

Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy
“I thought we hung tougher then we have and that was good. During that 17-0 run in the fourth quarter we were definitely more intense – we also were getting on the floor for the loose balls. I thought we rebounded a lot better and obviously made some shots at the other end. Luther (Head) gave us a good spurt of offense. During the third quarter I didn’t make any changes defensively, we just played a lot better. I think Stromile (Swift) made some good plays, I don’t know what to attribute it to, but he was a big part of that run. All six of our road games are tough; we go to Portland and then play four games in five nights. They are obviously tough games, but that’s the NBA.”

Derek Anderson
“Everyone just basically said that we were going to play tough and make a couple of stops and inch our way back in. Tracy (McGrady) started getting some defensive steals and that really ignited everything. This is a growing spurt for us right now. We are growing together and finishing games; we are fighting through the hard times. It’s all about learning to play together. In that run we went on the big difference was that we were getting the defensive stops. We were getting all of the rebounds; they were getting those second chance opportunities. When we stopped them we were able to score, and that’s really hard to do in this league. I feel no sympathy for what (the Kings) are going through right now, because we are in a similar situation. They were coming out to get us tonight and we were going after them.”

David Wesley
“I think the difference lately is that we are getting a little bit healthier. (Tracy McGrady) is back, and the last few games we played much better defense. We are shooting the ball better, we are controlling the ball, and tonight I don’t think we turned the ball over as much as we have been. It helps to make shots and we have been hitting pretty good. We have had better spacing and working on all of the little things which make us better, and that’s what we have been thinking about and talking about. It helps to play good defense and get the easy transition baskets, we have just had a much better flow out there. It always helps to come in here and come out strong and play a good first quarter. We have had better focus and just were able to work together.”
