Postgame Quotes-vs. Golden State
Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“I thought after the first five minutes we played pretty well. The first part of that game looked like they had a four or five day break. As the first half went on we started to play and be more active defensively and we got into a good rhythm offensively. It was good to see us come out in the third quarter and really take control of the game. It’s what we talked about at half time – try to get the first third (quarters) so they would have a tough time coming back.”
“We wanted to step out on (Richardson). I remember the game we had against him last year – he didn’t have any (points) at half time and ended up with 30. He’s capable of doing that so we figured that he wasn’t going to be able to post us up like he did in the past with Ron (Artest). We knew that we had to get to him at the pin down and step out and try to limit his penetration. We made him work.”
“It’s going to have to be consistent. We’ve been winning at home and playing well. Now we move up to LA (Lakers) and play a team that’s in the A spot. I really do believe it’s a matter of how we are playing. We’ve been competing on the road; we haven’t finished a lot of them but we’ve been there. After the break and everything we had a good mindset tonight.”
“You have to look at your team and see what comes up. If there’s something coming up Geoff (Petrie) always lets me know what’s being talked about. At this point in time there is nothing that is serious or that we would want to do at this point. I think if something comes up suddenly then yeah you’re going to look at it and see if you can help your team. I think right now as a coach all I can say is this is the group we have. We are starting to get a little bit better; we are starting to find ourselves. After we play the Lakers we have three days before we play again which is going to be a real benefit to us.”
Mike Bibby
“We played good. We played together. We played a good defensive game. We made them take tough shots, we were making shots and we came out on top. It was the first game back. I think both teams were a bit rusty, but hopefully we can carry this over into the L.A. (Lakers) game. Every game is important. Everyone is going to be fighting, jockeying for playoff position. We’re right there and we need to get through it. We’re starting to help each other defensively. We’re rotating out and making them beat us from the outside instead of getting lay-ups all the time.”
On Thursday’s game against the Lakers:
“It’s going to be intense. I think the rivalry is still there. They’re ahead of us and we need to keep pushing forward. We’ll see what Ron (Artest) can do against [Kobe Bryant].”
Brad Miller
“Obviously every home game is crucial for us. Over half our games left are on the road. We’re trying to make a push. L.A.’s the spot in front of us now so that’s our next goal. It’s always good to come out. You never know what to expect coming back that first game [from All-Star break]. It could be like us or it could be like Golden State (Warriors), like it was tonight.”
On this Thursday’s game:
“Just standing’s wise it’s important because they’re in front of us now and we’re finally not at the bottom. We need to keep trying to climb up in the division. Obviously it’s going to be a fun game. Obviously we’re going to be hearing all the boos which makes you want to do even better. It’s definitely going to be fun.”
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
“It was a good win. I think there are like 28 more games, so everyone is important for us. I think a lot of times after you come back from (the All-Star) break, the flow of the game is kind of raggedy. I don’t necessarily think we played like that tonight. We played good basketball. Personally, I’m more comfortable starting since that’s what I’ve been doing my whole career. But whatever decision Coach (Adelman) makes I’ll roll with it. Coming off the bench I’ll be productive. Our focus is getting into the playoffs.”
On this Thursday’s game:
“It’s not a championship game but we plan on moving up in the standings. I think it means something to both teams.”
GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS
Head Coach Mike Montgomery:
"At practice yesterday we could barely get 94 feet we were so tired. We just couldn’t run and it carried over to today. The break really took its toll on us and Jason (Richardson) is a little under the weather. Troy (Murphy) is coming back from about two and a half weeks of not being able to do anything. At one point in the game we were 3 for 24 from the floor; they weren’t three’s and they were not wild shots we just couldn’t finish and make shots and it affected everything else that we did. It just wasn’t very good. We just beat the Clippers the last game we played with the same line-up, and we just beat Cleveland at Cleveland with the same line-up, so it can’t all be blamed on the fact that we didn’t have Baron (Davis). We just really weren’t focused; we were switching screens that we shouldn’t have been. We didn’t have very good concentration; we have had this problem in the past. When the ball doesn’t go down it affects everything else that we do."
Andris Biedrins:
"It felt good to get some rest over the break. I had a lot of energy and I wanted to play. It is always a terrible feeling when your team can’t make shots and you can’t be much help. We need to fight back and get back into the groove of things. I think the fact that we had a bad practice the other day contributed to our poor performance. I think at practice the other day we were all just a little bit out of shape."
Adonal Foyle:
"We were not aggressively pushing them to do anything on offense. We were giving them their primary shots all night. When you are playing a team as good as the Kings and they are getting the shots that they want, you have to force them to take shots that are tough. I don’t think that we did a very good job of that. We did not run at them and force them to take the tough shots. With the team that we put on the floor I feel that we can come back in any game. I still thought that even when were down we could get back into it"
