Postgame Quotes-vs. Atlanta
February 12, 2006

Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“This is a win we had to get before we go on the road, and I thought in the second half we played a lot more consistent. The first half we were playing okay but we had our ups and downs. The second half, we were pretty consistent in our effort in what we had to do. Like I said, it was a win we had to get before we go on the road.”

“Especially in the second half, we passed the ball well. The first half, we had twelve turnovers. We were trying to make the spectacular play, and all we talked about at half- time was making the simple play. I thought the first half we really forced a lot of things, and during the second half, we calmed down the ball really well.”

“Ron did a great job on (J. Johnson). He got his hands on the ball and he kept working and forced the guy to make another play. I thought we did a better job when he didn’t put it down, and making him throw it to someone else. The first half, we didn’t switch sometimes when we needed to switch. The first half I thought our concentration really lacked at times. The second half we were much more consistent. Ron does a great job. Whether it’s off the floor, or whether it’s Harrington trying to post him up, he’s really a handful defensively.”

“If we (can) get a couple of wins on the road before the All Star break and (then) suddenly we’re right back with everybody. There’s going to be tough games. Chicago’s come off a long road trip and that’s their first game at home. Memphis is coming off a six game trip and that’s their first game at home. It’s not going to be easy because they both play well there. We just have to start winning games on the road wherever that’s going to be. I just assume that would be in Chicago versus anywhere else. I think it would be really important for us to get a couple of wins, but you have to go out there and play consistent and you have to take it through it and finish the games. So, we’ll see what happens. We’re playing with a pretty good rhythm at home, and now we have to start doing that on the road.”

Shareef Abdur-Rahim
“I thought we moved the ball well, helped each other well on defense. When we play well, that’s what we do. We don’t get bogged down and do one on one.”

“I thought we were letting up in the first half and not controlling the game, so we wanted to come into the third quarter, take control, and get them out of here. When we’re playing well, everybody’s involved and everybody’s helping each other. It’s fun when we play like that.”

“Definitely, we’re about to play two on the road before the (All -Star) break. This is a win we needed to get before we go on the road. No, this was a win we wanted and really needed to get before we go on the road.”

“Yeah, I feel good. I’m able to get some real food in me, get my energy back. So, I’m feeling better. I put a little bit of weight on. I thought it would come back a little faster, but it’s coming. I feel good.”

Brad Miller
“Very important. Our goal is to take all of these before the All-Star break. It would get us right at .500 pretty much, so we did what we did at home and what we’re supposed to be doing, but now we have to try to get these two on the road.”

“Yeah, it’s definitely one of those things with past teams in years before, that’s when we were clicking at our best and dominating games in the past, getting lay-ups and open looks. You know, that’s what we’re supposed to do. We’ve been the victims on the road with this. Coming out in the third quarter we have to step it up and be aggressive.”

ATLANTA HAWKS

Coach Mike Woodson
“No doubt about it, this team has some talent. They’re pretty damn good. You start mentioning the names that they have on their roster, and you add a piece like (Ron) Artest that does a lot of dirty stuff; nasty, can score, rebound and defend. That just adds a little more chemistry to what you’ve got. Artest just adds a different demeanor to this team. He’s a more defensive minded kid that’ll get after you, and he makes guys around him better defensively. They didn’t go wrong in bringing Artest to the Sacramento Kings. I wouldn’t be surprised if this team makes the playoffs in the West. They have a legitimate shot at getting the 7th or 8th spot. ”

“They physically out toughed us. They came up with loose balls and they out worked us. I can’t say that a lot of times when we go out in ball games, that teams really just out work us but they did tonight. We got to go back to the drawing board because I’m not pleased at all about the way we played and with our effort in the second half. We were lucky to be down eight coming back in after the half. It wasn’t even close in the second half. You talk about giving up 62 points in the second half to this team and you’re not going to beat anybody like that.”

Joe Johnson
“[Artest] definitely makes them a better team because they feed off his energy. He’s just coming out making plays. He’s not doing anything out of his character. He’s still playing tough. He’s a good player. I think he had a great night tonight on both ends of the floor so he impacted them offensively and defensively.”

Josh Childress
“They had a lot of energy coming out in the second half. We didn’t do anything to counter that. We let them be the aggressor and that’s why they came out on top. We just played like we were in quicksand tonight. Everything was a step slow. They got to the basket when they wanted and made open shots. It’s hard to defend when they’re making everything. They played a good game. We just have to concentrate on getting back to playing well and getting a win against the [Los Angeles] Lakers.”

Wow, I loved this quote by the coach of the Hawks. I gotta borrow it for awhile.
