i was just thinking who we could pick up via free agency, and draft picks, do you guys think we can get some descent players, there are lots of trade talk but incase the trades don't fall through who or what can we possibly get???

If you want d, then diop would be the way to go. Mind you he has NO offense. But he will clog the lane in a good way. (Ostertag being the example of bad).

Here's my next question.

Let's say Mike Bibby opts out of his contract at the end of the season thus making him a UFA, can the Kings use that plus the other 12ish million coming off the books on Corliss/Mo/Ronnie/Pot/Hart to get approximately 12-13 million under the salary cap.

Would it be possible then to offer say a contract on the average from the example in the link of an average of 11 million over 5 years to someone like Monta Ellis(imagine Ellis and Martin in the backcourt together that'd be quite the show!) IMO there's NO WAY GS could match that offer. With the mega deals of Murphy/Dunleavy/Richardson/Davis/Foyle etc...they'd be hardpressed to MATCH that type of money and honestly with just their MLE I don't think they'd be able to actually and legitimately match(with the big spike in salary in the 3rd, 4th, 5th season).

I dunno if that's right or not, but in the event that something like that DOES occur, could the Kings still go over the cap to re-sign Bibby using his Bird Rights? Maybe in a front-loaded deal that off-sets Ellis' deal?

Just some food for thought.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Limited Salary Protection just means that the guy's contract isn't guaranteed for the full year. So Monta Ellis, for example, isn't a free agent, his contract is just only partially guaranteed next year. I'm guessing Mullin learned his lesson from the Gilbert Arenas fiasco by signing Monta to a three year deal -- after next year they'll have his Bird rights and can pay him whatever they want.

^I think you may be right. I should have looked a little deeper at the list. It just seemed that most listed were recent 2nd round picks. I want to say they are related, but have no evidence as such.

The problem with making any kind of predictions in January, especially with what's going on currently, is that we have no idea what Petrie will decide to do. Personally, I think it's just about time to set the fuse, step back, and wait for the loud bang... And that might be what happens. If so, trying to pick one player or another for next year's team is a true fantasy exercise.

Man.. Kings should just throw away their season purposely in 07-08 and just try to draft OJ Mayo if he plays well in college. Maybe move farther up the draft this year and get the "next Yao Ming" guy.

Of course I'm basing this all on hype :)

But seriously, a pure superstar in my opinion is what the team lacks.

Maybe our only worry is to find our "LeBron".

I wouldn't mind Chris Mihm. That would be a great pickup for this team.

You are leaving off two very important players that *may* be on the market this summer.

Kevin Garnett and Jermaine O'neal.

IMO Garnett is the more likely to opt out and I think he does opt out at the end of the year. O'neal I am not so sure about because he'd be leaving 40 million + on the table for the two years remaining on his deal.

Their options actually aren't untill 08 offseason, but they both might demand a trade this offseason...

yea i've definitely heard about the possibility of a trade going down that could bring KG here but I really don't think it would happen and we NEED a big guy...so I say Chris Mihm lol. People are gonna hate him cuz he's a Laker, but oh well he's a big guy, and a decent one at that, so it couldn't hurt to get him over here.

As for the 2007 FA market, I think the Kings should focus on signing young, promising, and cheap talent. This would be great for rebuilding & allowing cap space should a superstar or two become available. Additionally, this strategy would really get Arco more enthused with a bunch of ambitious upstarts playing their heart out on the floor.

Mo Williams has been mentioned here before. I bet we could get him for half the price of Bibby and get better or equal PG performance down the road. Anderson Varaejo would give the Kings much needed size and defensive prowess. Chuck Hayes could give us rebounding and shot efficiency (although I haven't really seen him play, his stats look promising). I wouldn't mind seeing Sarunas Jasikevicius coming off the bench - imagine, a decent backup PG! Signing Darko would be great if we could only draft a passing PF like Josh McRoberts...but odds are that won't happen and another team will overpay the Orlando big man.

This coming market is promising because of the quality and likely high value (ahem, smaller contracts) that these players may bring. The Kings have some expiring contracts and desirable players to trade. I feel this summer is a time to make some moves...for Geoff's sake.
