Positives from the game

Shocking this thread is coming from me but here are the positives I saw in the game:

3 point shooting: The Kings shot 44% from 3. Giles made another with his foot on the line. We didn’t have Bogi or Beli playing. This team could again be a very good 3 point shooting team, we just have to get attempts.

Yogi and Giles BBIQ: The Kings have historically low IQ players. Both Yogi and Harry have high IQ’s and it will be fun watching the ball movement.

Fox’s finishing: While I hate Fox’s play making he did a better job finishing around the basket and his step back 3 was sweet. He will be a tough cover going to the basket.

Here are some random observations I saw in the first preseason game:

I don't think I saw a player over 25 on the floor playing for the Kings.
Yogi looks like a very good scorer and a steal in free agency.
Sactowndog you are correct that when Bogi and Beli also play the shooting could be very good.
Harry Giles exhibits a little bit of a nasty attitude that will get under the skin of the opposing team, I like this:)
Bagley's role was to play defense and learn his role which is what he did. Joeger will bring him along slowly as he did with Fox. I'm not worried. (Just an FYI, I had Doncic above Bagley on my draft board, nuff said).
Willie looked like he is very serious and played great.
Skal's stroke is sweet and every shot he takes looks like it will tickle the twine, I like this:)
Fox has the defense on their heels all the time. This will be taken advantage of.
Buddy is a major focus of the other teams defense so play makers need to feed him IMO.
When Wenyen made his late appearance and stood next to Josh Jackson, JJ did a double take of the size of Wenyen. I expect Wenyen to be the diamond in the rough and a fan favorite due to his defensive hustle and sweet 3 point stroke.
That is all for now:)

Yogi. Too bad we only got him on a 2 year deal, but great. He looked very good. Fate maybe giving us a bone if the Bagley thing doesn’t go as planned? He looked like a good starter. Trying not to get too excited about one game. Fox/Yogi somehow in the back court?

People have been looking for a Bobby Jackson since...forever, but Yogi is as good a guy to fill that role that we've had in a long time. Can play the 1 or 2, fits in well next to high usage players, good off-ball shooter, good handles, decent playmaking, good in transition.

So more positives:

-Bagley defense. Think he did a legitimately good job on Ayton and it there was a noticeable difference when anyone else was defending him. Playing him around the rim and letting WCS/Giles/Skal chase around guys on the perimeter seems like a good place to start for him to get comfortable.

-Fox aggressiveness. Carried over from the first summer league game, Fox was looking to attack the basket when he actually get the opportunity to do so (meaning the few times we didn't run the high post offense). Had a really good looking step-back 3 and a finish through contact against Ayton at the rim. Didn't have many play making opportunities, but I think that's more a result of the offense; we just aren't putting our playmaking duties on our PG.

-Defense overall. Other than WCS getting spanked by Ayton over and over, the defense looked really athletic and we were contesting shots. Fox was straight up bullying the opposing PHX guards and had a stretch in the 3rd quarter where they couldn't do anything against him. Now PHX is going to challenge us for worst team in the West and they didn't have their best player, but its still a good sign to see if it continues.

-GIles everything. He looked a little rushed for most of the night (understandable), but showed us a little bit of everything on the floor. A few times looked flat-footed on defense, wonder if that's tied to his conditioning to being in game-shape. Saw a couple nice jumpers, ran the floor well, contested shots on defense, brought good energy off the bench. Pace and energy of the game changed when he and Bagley came off the bench in their first stint in the first quarter.

Bobby Jackson is a pretty good comp for Yogi

Thanks for this. Tried watching but the feed sucked.

Fox showing an improved 3 is good news, as is his aggressiveness.

I'm not as worried about Bagley as everyone else (edit, I mean Doncic's fans are), his motor is consistent with that of Jason Thompson when he came out but he is 4 years younger than JT was. At worst I have Bagley penciled in as a rich man's JT(his hands are better. Jt had mitts of stone).

Super excited about Harry G! I believe he will be 1st team all rookie and in the conversation for ROY.

After watching the summer league games and the pre-season games so far, can we start penciling in Fox at PG and Giles at C for years to come?

Could these two develop into pillars of our team for years to come?

I certainly have liked what I have seen from both so far this year. Still a lot of development left but some really encouraging signs

I have not caught any games , just clips, still nice to hear there are some positives. Fox, Yogi, and Giles showings sound exciting, but Wenyen intrigues me most. Seems like every other team gets lucky outside the lottery, hoping he's that player for us. I wish I could be optimistic about JJ at SF but feel college will be the highlight of his career.

Anyways go Kings, and I'm watching if we are part of a trade equation involving Butler.

Sure. Problem is we need to pencil more in about now. Buddy/Marvin I’m looking at you.

I think Bogdan can be penciled in as great 6th man or a very good SG.

Baby steps!

Fox and Giles are in their 2nd years (well technically speaking Giles in his 1st but has done all the training and practice last year with the team) and these things take time. Buddy is defninitely an NBA player but the question is whether he is a starter or an excellent 6th man type.

Bogdan has proven that he is a good SG option, a nice complement to Fox both as a shooter and creator. What I was referring to when I mentioned Fox and Giles is having franchise pillars. An all-star level players.

Give Bagley time will you. He hasn't even started his rookie season anger yet.
