First, credit to Hicks of PacersDigest.com for inspiring us to steal these rules and adapt them for our use.
Most of these things should be common sense and regard common decency. Many of you will not need to read this as we mostly have a fine, courteous (and knowledgeable) community here at KF. New people continue to swing by and they may not be aware of how we like things around here. One might even argue that some of our regulars need a gentle reminder at times. Well, here it is.
1. Don't be a jerk. You have no right, at any time, to deny anyone on this forum the right to have a positive experience and/or conversation on this forum. Intentionally acting rude, insulting, flaming, belittling, name-calling, hateful or insensitive to anyone or their friends, family, or where they live is not acceptable. We will not always agree with each other, but show some respect. If you do one of these things, you will be asked to stop, and if you fail to stop after talking with us about it, you will be dealt with in whatever way we feel is appropriate. The best thing to remember is to keep your comments about the topic at hand and NOT about another member.
Every situation is different. If you feel that you were in no way intentionally trying to insult anyone, and it was a simple misunderstanding, you must go out of your way to explain yourself. This is critically important to avoid any further misunderstandings, unfair treatment, or needless animosity. If you offend somebody, responding with a
and "I was just joking" doesn't cut it. You have to explain yourself. Joking around is fine, but it helps if you make it known you're fooling around. Nobody can read your mind here.
In addition, it is not up to any member to correct or criticize the grammar or spelling of other members. We have a worldwide community here, and a lot of our members are posting in English as their second, third or even fourth language. It's not about how something is spelled, anyway. It's about the comments.
HINT: This isn't text messaging. If your posts don't make sense, they don't do you or us any good. Complete words and the use of punctuation make it easier for all of us to communicate.
2. On Posting Articles/Pictures From Other Sites:
When posting articles/pictures from newspaper sites, or other sites in general as a rule you will have to:
A. make sure the source and the author are mentioned,
B. make sure there is a "linkback" to the article in question
Failing to do so will result in removal of the post in question. This is not a power syndrom, this has to do with rights (SK and other) and obligations you face when doing this. It is allowed (more or less) to post the articles under several laws, however we can never prove our case if we do not mention sources, at that moment in time (no sources) it becomes simply theft of SK rights.
*As far as links to peer-to-peer sites to share game films, it’s not allowed. Games are subject to copyright. Taping them for your own use is one thing. Taping them and uploading them to a peer-to-peer site is copyright infringement and we don’t want to battle the NBA over it. The occasional clip as a fan tribute is one thing; game films will NOT be allowed and links/threads will be deleted.
3. No Spamming.
Self explanatory. Spamming to boost your post count falls under this too. There are lots of +1 threads in the Lounge. Feel free to participate in them. We're of the opinion that it's not how many posts you have, but what you say with them that really matters.
4. No Advertising.
ANY advertising must be cleared through Jeremy or the moderators. If you're here solely to advertise or solicit then you're in the wrong place and won't be here long.
5. No Pornography.
We try to keep it family friendly here. There's an fairly obvious line between something risque and something pornographic.
6. Starting new threads.
Please attempt to start your thread in the proper forum. Sometimes threads are moved from one forum to another. Primarily, it's it about sports it goes in one of the Sports forums. If it's something else, it goes in the Lounge or the Art Studio. Before you post a new thread, LOOK at the threads already under discussion. We have a very active board. If you're trying to post a rumor about a trade, etc. you read somewhere a couple of days ago, odds are pretty high its already been posted. If it has, your thread will be merged or closed.
7. Keep signatures reasonably sized.
Please use common sense in selecting your avatar. In addition, try not to make your signature so long that it is actually longer than the post you're making. Nobody likes to wade through unending multi_colored statements to try and glean an iota of sense.
8. No Trolling
Does anything really need to be said about this? We like fans of other teams here and encourage them to stick around. If you want to talk some basketball then you came to the right place. If you came to troll then you'll find yourself banned after a few opportunities to, ya know, post something worth reading.
9. No player bashing
This is a fan site. Fans come here to talk about their favorite teams, to compliment and to criticize. That’s all fine. What isn’t fine, however, and won’t be allowed is blatant player bashing. It’s pretty obvious when a post has gone over the line from legitimate criticism to bashing. When that occurs, the post will be deleted.
10. Buying/selling tickets
Our ticket forum is for the convenience of our members. Tickets must be sold at no greater than face value. We reserve the right to remove ANY thread that does not follow the guideline or that we feel is not in the best interests of our members.
11. Don't be a jerk.
We covered this one already? Okay, it's the main one so keep it in mind.
We've worked hard to make Kingsfans.com a fun place for people to come and talk hoops, share their love of basketball, etc. We may be a little different than other boards you've visited but we think you'll like us once you've had a chance to get to know us. Remember, we're here to have a good time. If you're here for any other reason, you just might be better served to find somewhere else to post.
Feel free to PM a Moderator or the Admin if you have concerns or complaints about people, places, things, objects, whatever. We're generally approachable and feedback is appreciated even if it's not always positive. In addition, if you find something you think needs to be addressed by one of the moderators, please use the "refer a post" option - it's the little red exclamation point in the triangle on the left side of your post box.
Thanks for your time. Now, let's get back to talking about our favorite team!!!

SPECIAL NOTE: We do not condone or approve of using illegal means to obtain TV broadcasting. If you post something that advocates illegal action to obtain satellite service, viewing or duplicating NBA games, etc. it will be deleted. If you continue to do so after a warning, you will be banned.
