My thoughts and prayers are with all those who are currently in fear of losing their homes and property to the fires burning throughout our state, especially in Butte County.

Will our Chico members check in and let us know you're okay?

STAY SAFE!!!

Its on the Skyway, northeast of Chico, heading towards Paradise. When I lived up there last year, a similar section burned along the Skyway. This fire, however, appears to be significantly bigger and a larger threat to the people of Paradise.

I hope everyone and their families are safe.

Prayers and good wishes to all those facing fires, especially our friends in Butte County.

Paradise SEEMS to be out of harm's way right now. I say SEEMS because this fire has changed direction many times throughout the day. That said, many people in Paradise already lost their homes...no count right now but it's probably somewhere between 25 and 50...at least. The big threat right now is to Butte College, a HUGE community college AND the command post for the fire effort. It is apparently surrounded by fire on at least three sides. I'll keep you posted...

I work in Oroville and some of my co-workers live in the Chico or Paradise area. The sky has been ugly with smoke.

My thoughts and prayers are with those who have already suffered loss, those in fear of suffering a loss and especially with the firefighters who risk injury and death to protect others and their homes and businesses.

Half of the town of Paradise is under some sort of evacuation notice again. The heat, low humidity, and late night winds have caused these fires to worsen. Feather River Hospital in Paradise has had to begin evacuating most of its patients although they are keeping the ER open. To make it worse, over 50 homes were destroyed in the small community of Concow.

Please keep all of the firefighters, shelter volunteers, and the people and animals forced from their homes in your thoughts.

Per my parents (who live in my home town of Paradise), they are now evacuating Feather River Hospital. Doesn't necessarily mean the fire has jumped the canyon, but I assume they are playing it safe rather than waiting until the last second.

Sounds like ash is everywhere like snowfall...

Edit: I see D-Mass already mentioned the hospital. :) Hope everyone stays safe...

It's bad even in Chico. Paradise is worse by far, but a steady rain of ash has fallen on the area all day.

My prayers are with everyone who faces loss in the fires in CA, especially in Butte county.

I also pray for safety (and some rest) for all those fighting fires.

Per a family friend who lives up Pentz road and is still trying to get back and forth to their house to get a few last things, firefighters have told them that the fire has jumped the canyon...

Take with a grain of salt of course as with all second hand information...

Ditto that.

My brother-in-law left a couple days ago to go fight fires (Fort Bragg area somewhere maybe? - not sure). Prayers for them all.

CANYON COMPLEX FIRE UPDATE
Location: Plumas National Forest Start Date: June 22, 2008 Update: July 8, 2008 PM

California Incident Management Team # 3 (Incident Commander – Jeanne Pincha-Tulley)

Acres: 23,159 Resources: 1,132 personnel Containment: 57% (22 contained, 9 uncontained)

Current Situation: Today fire activity increased on all branches of the Canyon Complex. Hot, dry winds tested the lines on several fires in the complex. A new fire named the Friend-Darnell Fire started on the west side of the Middle Fork of the Feather River. Strong winds pushed this fire at a rapid rate in a southwesterly direction. Butte County Sheriff and OES issued Immediate Evacuation orders for an area east of Berry Creek. The fire grew quickly to over 600 acres. The fire was knocked down late in the day using heavy air tankers, helicopters, and ground resources. In addition, the South Fire made a strong run to the southwest entering the Middle Fork Feather River Canyon. The Frey Fire made a run to the north. The Belden Fire remained within containment lines.

For Butte County evacuation information contact Butte County OES at (530)538-2762 or online at www.buttecounty.net .

Nearly 300 firefighters will work tonight on the Friend-Darnell Fire using dozers and engines to build fire line. The focus will be to secure fire lines on the priority flanks of the fire. Engines will also be in the area to provide structure protection. A concern for firefighters is the forecast for strong northeasterly winds early Wednesday morning.

The evacuation notices, issued by the Plumas County Sheriff Friday night in response to the Belden Fire remain in place for Indian Creek RV Park and Maggie’s Maple Leaf and the Belden community south of Hwy 70. Fire teams and sheriff’s offices coordinate evacuation notices based on actual or potential fire behavior.

The Canyon Complex could be under a Red Flag Warning through Thursday. This Red Flag Warning indicates potential for large fire growth.

Highway 70 remains closed to the public from the Highway 70/89 Greenville Y to Yankee Hill Road, but is open to residents from the junction of Greenville Y to the Indian Creek junction (just west of Belden).

Bald Rock Rd. is closed from the southern intersection of Zinc Rd to the Oro-Quincy Highway. Zinc Rd. is closed from the southern intersection of Bald Rock Rd. to the northern intersection of Bald Rock Rd.

Call CalTrans for specific road information: 1-800-427-7623. Road conditions are subject to change at any time.

Weather: Red Flag Warning for a hot, dry and windy day on Wednesday. For an update of local air quality conditions, visit www.countyofplumas.com , or for Butte County: www.bcaqmd.org.

Please be fire safe. And if you're planning a trip to the foothills or mountains, DO NOT SMOKE while you're here. One tossed cigarette butt could wreak more havoc than you could ever imagine. Our communities and surrounding areas are tinder dry. This is quite possibly rapidly becoming the worst fire season in history and it's only July. Our fire season isn't declared over until the first SOAKING rain and that may not happen until late September or even October.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those in shelters tonight, not knowing if their homes will be there tomorrow and with all those incredible firefighters who are putting their lives on the line to save our homes and property.

My continued thoughts and prayers for everyone and gratitude and prayers for those brave men and women putting their lives on the frontline of danger.

My sentiments as well.

My kid's dad and grandma are in the center of the fires around concow/yankee hill. As of noon today, they were mandatorally evacuated.
my great aunt lives in the Paradise evacuation zone and should have already been evacuated. No one in my family has heard from her yet though. :(

My sister lives in Chico and says there is ash all over the place.

Today was even worse as far as air quality goes. 112 degree weather doesn't help...

About your great aunt...and forgive me if you've already tried this, but the Red Cross has a "Safe and Well" site that people in disasters can register on to alert their family members that they are OK. Even if she's not tech savvy, they will sometimes help register people at shelters if she has made it to one of them. Worth a shot...I hope you hear from her soon.
