You have to have cap room to absorb that player's contract, or a trade exception generated by such a trade. LAC had the space b/c Baron signed for less than Brand made yearly, they let Livingston go, and they had a few other FAs(like Cassel I think, who they bought out earlier in the year).

Nah the only thing useful out of that trade is Rudy Gay, and I wouldn't give up that much for Rudy gay.

well id give anything for a Martin/Gay Duo well artest is an expiring salmons and garcia are young enough to play the SF and if artest pans out good on them he can sign an extension (artest in his first year with any team is like planting a bomb and waiting for the detonation) who knows
walker can still have his purpose as an offensive punch of the bench together with jaric they arent as much as dead weight as KT lol

well we can always let walker and jaric ride the pine we already have enough young guys in hawes, thompson,martin,udrih,singletary,bobby brown,douby... the problem with this rebuild mode is that we gain 2 more contracts that im sure memphis is willing to waste... in other words we will be getting 2 more Kenny thomas....
sadly thats the only thing that is stopping us from getting a guy with a caliber like Gay

Well, that and the fact that lots of times rebuilding teams like Memphis are unwilling to get rid of their young, cheap, potential stars. The Gasol trade was absolute idiocy, but he was already expensive and apparently they felt they couldn't build around him. I just don't see them doing the same with Gay. I think they're gearing up to go long-term with Gay, Conley, and then Mayo. If they're bad enough this year to nab a Blake Griffin in the draft, they'll have a real nice young core established and have cap room to boot. If they trade away Gay, they'd be in this obvious mode of continually "rebuilding" and never actually trying to win.

They wouldn't do this, but if it was on the table, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Walker and Jaric sucks, but we'd at least have Adriana Lima in attendance for a season or 2. Gay is an excellent pickup to build around, along with Martin. Still can't believe all Memphis gave up for him was Shane Battier

So now, we have 4 Point guards, little or no back up at shooting guard with Salmons gone. (Ewing Jr. is not a shooting guard, Why? because he can't shoot.), one player at SF (Walker is not a SF, he's a PF, and with learning and dedication has managed to turn himself into a crappy one at that). Now you have Moore, JT, Sheldon, KT, SAR, and Walker at the PF position. In essence, were giving up three players that could potentially start for some team, for one starter at SF. Why don't we just throw in Petrie's first born while were at it?
Look, I like Gay a lot, but not at that price. Sorry.

Salmons is a D league all-star at best. Garcia is a career back up. And Ron is gone no matter what. I don't like the trade for financial reasons but anytime you get a great young player you do it.

My, my, freedom of speech gets a bit cruel at times in the sports world. Beno is starter, Bobby Brown is #1 backup and Sean, if he makes it thru training camp is #2 PG backup. Jaric is a SG and we have Kevin, Salmons and Cisco plus Douby who fill that role. Gay is a SF so he replaces RonRon. Anything else or anybody else over a 1-1 or 2-2 swap favors the other team and not the Kings.
