I think it comes down to two this week.

I wanted to do this thread after the butt-whoopin of the Jazz on Sunday, but I was drunk and proceded to watch the super bowl on a 50-inch plasma. I am announcing that I am discontinuing the gameball thread. It is very similar to other traditions around here and I want to start a Player of the Week tradition instead.

POTW will be a debate between us Kings fans about who meant the most over a week-long period. As I get more comfortable, this thread will have more substance, but for now here goes...

_____________________________________________________________

1/30 - 2/5

Kings had 2 wins and 1 bull**** loss to the Jazz on Friday, a game which we all know we should have won. Despite one lost quarter of basketball, 2 out of 3 for the week is not bad, especially given the circumstances. Yeah they were home wins, but the backbone of Kings success starts at ARCO. We played with much more fire and intensity this week and I think the new Kings identity is beginning to surface. And this new identity has shown a relentless pursuit of defense. Defense?...Kings?...What? I know, it is new to me too, but I like it a lot.

Favorite stat of the week: (averages) Points for: 91 Points against: 86
If we want to make a run at the playoffs then we need a point differential like that. I know Utah and Denver aren't the best teams but they aren't bad either.

Artest: Ron did a good job guarding Melo on Tuesday, and then right on cue he suffered a (thankfully minor) injury on Friday. Not to mention his tru warrior spirit shining through as he toughed it out on Super-Sunday. He makes a good case for POTW or at least runner up based on this alone. For the week: 16/49 from the floor, 18 rebs, 7 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocks. *Continued to instill a tough defensive mindset on our new-look Kings.

Bibby: Cooled off this week. With different personnel every game, it's been hard for him to establish offensive consistency.

Kenny: Consistent on the glass especially offensive. But not much else.

Shareef: Everyone has been talking about how Ron Artest is battling through an injury, even me. Let us all take a moment to praise Reef. Just because he wasn't playing good defense before his injury doesn't mean he wont step it up in some way, shape or form when he can BREATHE AND EAT again. Even Mike Bibby has been flying around the defensive end with more energy.

Kevin: Can we say enough about the way and manner in which this kid has stepped it up? He did it starting, he did it coming off the bench. What do you want coach? This week: 17/26 from the floor, 6/9 from downtown while averaging 26 minutes. Didn't do much defensively but he brings energy.

Bonzi: We needed him bigtime vs. Denver and his 14 rebounds meant very much to the team. Unfortunately he's back out again. I for one can't wait for him to return to 100%.

Francisco: Brought great energy off of the bench. Gave us 5/11 from the floor, 7 rebs, 4 assists, 7 blocks and 1 steal while averaging 15 minutes. 5 blocks in one game!!! Works as a great defensive counterpart to K-Mart.

Skinner: Great response when we needed him. Was a little rusty from not having played in a while but got going and gave us valuable minutes. 6/11 from the floor, 15 rebs, a couple blks, stls, and assists while averaging 22 minutes.

Corliss: Saw some more minutes and didn't squander them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Next Week: Memphis, Chicago, Phoenix, Atlanta 3 games at home. Time to go on a run.

Go Kings

If you have a poll, why not include all the players?

Someone might want to vote for Jamal Sampson, after all.

In my thread you have to learn to trust my decision making.

I like this idea. I think recognizing one person as "player of the week" is going to leave a lot more room for discussion, debate, etc. especially if the team picks up and more players are doing their parts.

I do agree with G3 that you might want to list the other starters, etc. You can put up to 10 options on a poll so I would consider that. You may have started the thread, but once it's posted it will take on a universal quality and a life of it's own. For that reason, I would really recommend that you put more options. It's a public poll, so the few jokers that might just want to skewer the results will be pretty obvious.

:D

There are a lot of things that I have to do -- trusting you in any capacity is not on that list.

Have to... Rather presumptious, don't you think?

For instance, since you specifically asked for feedback in your initial post, I would suggest that you SHOULD listen to the feedback that I gave you. However, I would never be foolish enough to suggest that you HAVE TO listen to the previously solicited feedback.

Your overall tone seems quite an odd choice for someone so deadset on starting up a new "tradition."

Kevin has been great, but with Artest being traded (new system), not being in game shape and getting injured, the nod goes to him for the impact that he already has created along with his leadership attributes that he has displayed. If Kevin keeps playing consistently at this rate, my next weeks choice maybe different.

I think that when writing on the internet the EMPHASIS put on certain words is open to interperetation. You read that as presumptious and you read it harshly. The internet is monotone. It's your mind that changes the tone.

If I had a better vocabulary or used better grammer then I might be able to "woo" you like VF and some others. But alas, I did not major in English. I majored in Engineering. So I'm sorry if I come off the wrong way. I will try to choose my words more carefully in the future. I should have used the words: "should trust" or "should learn to trust".

And I am excited not only because I'm starting a new thread but also because I have something to write about. This was a great week for the Kings.

I would think this particular one would be pretty obvious. There's only one player on this team who is trying to singlehandedly muscle this thing around and give us a whole new identity.

Firstly, if I misinterpreted your post and overreacted, I apologize.

I don't think that you're having any problems communicating here, however. I don't see any evidence of a limited/restricted vocabulary. And, for the record, VF's verbiage is no more capable of "wooing" me than your minor gaffe is capable of inspring my wrath.

It is just a message board.

Your original post asked for people to offer suggestions. I did so, and got a rather dismissive comment as a response. No big deal. I'm quite over it.

You will certainly get no argument from me on this. I respect your enthusiasm, and have enjoyed the new attitude surrounding the team myself.

Artest has changed the tone of this team in one week. This vote was easy though I would like to see other options.

I agree, at least list all the starters and the notable (playing) bench. I may be impressed with the tone set by someone want to recognize it for the impact it had, even if others score more points, for example.

Good idea for a new weekly feature, though.

Artest, due to the overall attitude of the team changing for the positive. However, Martin has really impressed me, not just because of his numbers, but more so that he's been able to learn how to come off the bench and instantly contribute. Maybe w/ Bonzi being out a little longer (WE MISS YOU BONZI) the bright side will be allowing Kevin to continue to build his confidence and help even more from a bench that sorely needs it. But I do like the POTW thread idea....it 'woos' me.

The consensus seems to be to add more names to the options. But remember this is for weekly play not just one game. For that reason alone I think that player of the WEEK should have played in every game of the week. So I won't be putting Jason Hart up there for 7 minutes of garbagetime in the week.

Definately Artest! This team has completely done a turnaround all on account of his enthusiasm and, if I may "cajones".

Go KIngs!

This is actaully a REALLY close pol, but I am going for the RON, ARTEST!! He can defend, and shoot so I give him the nod for what he did in the first week, as a KING!

I liked K-Marts play this week as well, but Ron has been LITERALLY doing it all!

No question Martin is teh awesomeness.

But the energy and grit Ron has noticibly brought and infused in this team is absolutely invaluable.

This is a cool idea to keep as a weekly thread. I would advise having at least three nominees, and posting stats, though.
