Pistons losing is good for us....

Now we can interview Porter next week instead of having to wait possibly two more weeks. He should be our new coach by late next week I am hoping. =)

Chauncey

Do you think that this loss also gives us a shot at FA to be Chauncey Billups to fill our PG void?

I hope not. If he can't contain little known Gibson in a decisive game. We don't need him playing Nash, Paul, Parker etc... 4 times a year. Also he is on the back 9 we are looking for guys teeing off on hole 1.

why would he want to come to this sacramento mess? unless we're paying him big ben $$$ don't count on it. i wouldn't want him over here anyway. we're rebuilding-

No, nor should we want him too. He is going to be 31 before next season and is probably going to be singing a $12-$15 milion dolar a year contract. Meanwhile, and I've been saying this for years, he is NOT THAT GOOD. He's good, but the fuss over a 42% shooting 17ppg PG these last few years has been ridiculous. And now he's getting old. That contract is going to be a complete anvil for some team in a couple of years. It has no place on a rebuilding team like ours. The only teams that should be looking at that are ones on the brink looking for a boost up.

However, it could mean that the Bucks have a better shot if they throw tons of $$ at Billups, meaning we may have a shot at a S&T for Mo Williams.

Edit: Then maybe we pawn off Bibby to the Pistons as a Billups replacement? Heck, I'd even take their mid-1st round pick as a chance of getting Smith or Splitter...

Rightly or wrongly, Porter is tarnished by three things:

1) Detroit was very slow to double-team James in the Cleveland series. As an assistant, what was Porter saying/doing about that?

2) Wallace, the head case. They obviously didn't "control" him. Maybe nobody could. But I find it hard believing that Petrie and the Maloofs wouldn't associate Porter with his incorrigible behavior

3) His connection to Rick Adelman.

Just say no to Jason Smith.

Yes, because the last thing this team needs is an athletic seven footer. We'd much rather have an unathletic, "skilled" big man to go along with all of the other unathletic, "skilled" big men we already have.

it's not that, jason's too tall for the team.

Why spend a first round pick on that, when you already got that out of an undrafted Justin Williams last year. Jason Smith will be a career back-up big man. I poor man's david lee.

Justin Williams is 7'0"? And has a jump shot? And can put the ball on the floor?

By the way: Justin Williams' vertical at last year's draft camp was 31.5". Jason Smith: 37.5" Standing vertical: Smith 33.5", Williams 26.5". Bench press: Smith 15, Wiliams 7. Makes you go hmmmm...

He wasn't guarding Gibson. The Pistons were mostly playing a 1-2-2 moving zone to keep LeBron from taking the game over again, and Gibson was getting open looks because the Cavs were moving the ball perfectly after the zone collapsed. Gibson's game had nothing to do with Chauncey's defense, and in fact, he's probably the best defensive point guard in the League.

That having been said, I wouldn't want him to be a King next season, simply because he's getting old and will demand too much money (not to mention the likely fact that we won't have a chance to get him). But his game at this point is solid, both offensively and defensively, and he's shown his ability to keep up with the better point guards in the League.

Thanks for posting that. From those draft videos, Jason looks quite a bit more skilled than Noah. Is the smaller school thing that is bumping him down the boards?

Yeah, I think people are wondering if he's going to be able to do the things he did in college against better competition. But then again, he and Justin Williams came from the same conference -- Williams was by far the better shotblocker and a slightly better rebounder in college, but Smith's numbers aren't too shabby.

Basically, I'm looking at it like: he's the most athletic seven footer in the draft in five years, and he also can shoot and rebound (at least in college). There's definitely some risk whether his skills can translate, but I'd rather gamble on someone who's athletic in a position we badly need some athleticism than to take a flyer on one of the swing men.
