Diana Taurasi just established a new WNBA single-game scoring record with forty-seven points as Phoneix beats Houston on the road in triple overtime.

If I told you before the game that Houston would get Taurasi and Pondexter both to foul out, and that they'd get 30/8/6/2/2 from Swoopes, 37/16/8 from Thompson and 12/12 from Snow... at home... who'd have bet me that Phoenix would win?

No; they track OT stats like they do in the NBA, but they are not logged independently of the rest of the regular season stats. It's not like regular season vs. playoffs.

Unfortunately for Phoenix it probably makes no difference. They still have to win their last two games (including one against us) and they need Houston to lose to Seattle, who apparently won't play Lauren Jackson.

Not sure I was clear. I meant a player is more likely to set a total points in a game record, if they get 3 OT periods to do it, instead of 4 quarters (or 2 halves).

I talked to Mr. 4Play as that game ended, and he was reeling off the stats to me and my eyes bulged out of my head when I heard the numbers that were put up in that game. The out of town scoreboard at ARCO was seriously behind but at least they did have it going to triple OT and it just SAT THERE forever and I couldn't take it any longer so I called him.

Don't count Phx out yet, if I learned anything watching Taurasi in college she can go completely insane and go on a streak and carry her team wherever she wants it to go...when she's healthy. She hasn't been healthy the last couple of seasons. Mr. 4Play also relayed that Swoopes left the game in the 3rd OT with spasms so her availability against Seattle is questionable at this point. He was concerned that the Comets were completely spent after tonight's game and may not have enough left to beat Seattle. They could get some help from Phx' next opponent tho.

i can't say she's my favorite player either...but it is hard to deny her skills & heart. Her game is evolving. I really enjoy watching players with emotion.
Kara is one of those players that gives her all, Erin B. as well.

I'm still waiting for the moment when they slap some high fives to the courtside fans!

that game thursday was exhausting for me watching it, but apparently it was just me, because the Comets handedly beat Seattle yesterday w/o Lauren Jackson i might add. pretty much had a 20 pt lead at half time and dispite a little surge in the third by Seattle we gave 'em the knock out punch in the 4th.

We're at home resting our wounds and with any luck, PHX will wear you guys down a bit tonight and with any luck the traveling will be enough to keep you guys from making Toyota Center your new home court. ya'll wear yourselfs out now containing Taurasi! hopefully she will show up tonight.

If anybody in the top eight of our rotation plays more than twenty minutes, I'll be very surprised. And, depending on whom it is, probably pissed. I mean, why would Whisneant risk injury and/or exhaustion to any of his key players heading into the playoffs? Unless, of course, he's every bit of the ***** that I've been saying he is all season.

Maybe, maybe if this were a home finale, I could buy into playing the rotation players to send the fans home happy with a win, but not under these circumstances; if Whisneant plays any key veterans their regular minutes, I'll be peeved. And, if one of the veterans get injured in the name of him trying to win this game, I will personally travel to Houston and separate Whisneant's head from the rest of his body.

Ditto

Totally agree,

Just posted that he shouldn't even activate Yo. Maybe that is extreme but This is total warm up for the play-offs. In fact it should be considered a scrimmage.

Run and Gun. Stay loose... No hard fouls. Try to stay sharp. Give the Bench Lots of Minutes. Rotate people every 3 to 4 minutes.

If Diana wants to score 57 points... Hell... Let her. She ain't in the Play-offs. AGAIN... So let her have her small victories. Then again it would be nice to shut down the scoring show.

Phoenix moves the ball really well, so it would be a good test.

This game means absolutely nothing.

Pride, winning the game, or stopping Taurasi are not important. Assuring that our team is as well rested and healthy as possible enetering the playoffs is the prime directive tonight.

The only possible reason to try to win is to gain home court advantage over another possible future playoff opponent, East or West, and that is virtually impossible with a win.

Regardless of the outcome of tonight's game...
Monarchs have winning pct. advantage over Seattle and Washington.
Monarchs have winning pct. disadvantage against LA and Connecticut.
Monarchs have 2nd tiebreaker (in-conference record) disadvantage against Detroit and Indiana, having tied them both 1-1 in the regular season (1st tiebreaker).

Detroit, Indiana, and SAC could all wind up with the same regular season record. Detroit will have AT LEAST as good a record as SAC. However, Indy and SAC now have identical records, so Indiana could lose and SAC could win, and thus SAC would get the upper hand over Indy in a possible WNBA Finals series. Do you go full bore for this possible, yet unlikely matchup? I say no. Indy plays the Sun tonite, but I wouldn't bet on Connecticut stressing themsleves over a completely meaningless game, but we'll see.

I say activate rooks Wilkins and Scott and give them some real-game development.

Intriguing post. I agree with most of it, and said as much earlier, minus the details about the matchups and whatnot.

You realize, however, that the Fever are playing the Sky tonight, not the Sun? Connecticut played earlier today, and got blown out by Detroit (it was ABC, in fact)

Thanx for the correction.

No, I rocketed through the schedule and blew it there.

In any event, I was proven completely wrong by Whiz with a few big-minute players and only 9 of 11 players on the floor.
