Petrie says it's premature to pass judgment on Theus

"When you don't play well or with any energy, that's hard," Petrie said about the loss by phone from his office. "You don't like to see that.

"(But) the few times I've talked to Joe (Maloof) the last two to three weeks … I said it's just way too early to make a fair assessment of what we have here. It's going to get better. I'm sure of that, if we can get reasonably healthy for a reasonable period of time."

How many good coaches have been fired because of lazy or inconsistent players. How many coaches are forced to deal with players that were hired by a former coach or some misguided general manager or owner?

I would assume that most NBA coaches know too well the concept of separation of authority and responsibility. It's like politics.

Bringing in another coach with little NBA experience right now would be a disaster. it would be starting all over again. Theus has a young group and key players are getting injured or suspened. With Martin and Garcia out we have no way of spreading the floor and our offense is easy to defend when you have nobody outside the arc.

Now if the talk is bringing in a coach with some background i.e. Avery Johnson then thats a different story but, the talk of Weisndant is absolutley stupid.

Never did Reggie Theus get so popular as when the Whisenhant card was brought into play again. :p

Reminds me of what happened with Muss -- all of a sudden he was a savior compared to the alternative. Must be nice to be ditzy owners lurching around -- you can scare the fandom into accepting anything just because of the fear that you could make it much worse.

Theus should be judged by how well this team plays defense the last 25 games of the season. If they don't play appreciably better than the first 25, he should be gone. If they do play better, he should be rewarded. It's that simple.

he should be judged by the development of talent at the end of the year. Period. and only that. Period.

To accomplish development he has to skate the fine line between true freefall (where morale drops so far that no true development takes place) and moronic striving for the ever popular .500 record....

in the end, this team this year is ALL about development... and if teh coach manages to maintain an upbeat striving team that plays hard throughout, and maintains discipline and cohesiveness WHILE playing (and developing) the youngsters liberally... he deserves to stay, even if the team goes 11 and 71.

(hell.... ESPECIALLY if the team goes 11 and 71 and all of the above occurs)

I really hope the Maloofs aren’t just throwing whiz’s name around just to scare us. Seriously, we really don’t need a coaching change right now. It’s too soon and we still haven’t gotten Kevin or Cisco back. Lets see if our team can come together and how our rookies develop...I'm so glad that Geoff is a patient guy.

I think Geoff needs to pull the trigger on several trades this year. We want to go young, right now is the best time to do it.
