Peja, whazzup

Gunny

Prospect
Peja needs to go. He is a detriment to the team, both on offense and defense. I know this post will probably get knocked off, but what the heck. He can't defend. He hasn't shot that well at all this year, and he's slow. I still think he is sore about Vlade and wants to be traded. Ii am a Kings fan from way back. But I am fair and honest. He needs to go

No problem with your post at all, Gunny. You have a right to your belief and I think it's shared by a number of members.

On the other hand, there are also a number who want to give him more of a chance.

This thread can be a really good discussion, IMHO, if - and that's a big IF - people can remember to keep their comments about the topic at hand AND not make it into a blanket condemnation of Peja's fans.

Let's see what happens.

Thanks VF. I love Peja but this year has not been good to him. Who knows, he might pull it together just in time for the playoffs. (fingers crossed)

The problem is it's almost too late. The Kings made their decision and it was to go with Peja all the way. If he continues to struggle in pressure situations and the playoffs in particular we aren't going to get anything good for him anyway, add to that Mobley leaving(maybe we sign and trade him, maybe not) and I'm not sure what we are going to be left with. It's a bad situation right now. Plus how eager do you think teams are going to be to do business with Petrie anyway?

I have a soft spot for Peja too and it's makes his performance this year even more painful.

Maybe he's getting all the choking out of the way before the POs. :)

I would love for this scenario to somehow happen. One can dream :D.
Peja to Chicago for Chandler
Mobley to Indiana for Artest

PF Chandler
SF Artest
SG MO

I think that Peja has been as much a detriment to himself as he has been to the team. He is an excellent offensive player and he has improved by leaps and bounds on the defensive end of the court since he 1st put on the Kings uniform. So, I will not agree with you there.

IMHO - it is all about heart and Peja's just does not seem to be in it this year. Oh, he has shown flashes (like Saturday night) but he does not sustain it.

There was a time (not awfully long ago) that I would have been sick if Petrie traded Peja. Now, I will just go along with whatever Petrie thinks is best, without giving it a second thought.

Im tellin you Peja needs his own GO PEJA thread...seperate from the GO KINGS thread

You can always start it, ihB. Keep in mind that a lot of people are past the "Go Peja" stage...

:(

I'll go first (edit: by the time I typed this I wasn't first anymore :) ). I honestly think he has been more of an offensive liability than defensive. He has played, arguably, some of the best, consistent defense whole season.

I have no way to judge his heart. If he is not going for rebounds and shooting crapy because Vlade is gone, than he has no place in the league, let alone on the Kings. I think he is having an off year which looks even worse because of all the stuff that has been going on. HE will be scrutinized (often deservedly so) no matter what he does (or doesn't do).

I would be agreeing with you if he put an effort like that every nigh, but on a back to back night where less than 24 hours agoi he played a A- game, I still have to give him a benefit of a doubt.

I like Peja, but I like the Kings more. If losing Peja will mean the team will get better, I am all for it. I just think that this a matter of a bad timing. To make comments like over the summer and to have a bad season.

Maybe, if his contract is ever renewed, there should be a clause that he has to shoot at least 20pts a game and grab at least 8 rebounds. Anything belove that he will be docked pay based on a percentage :)

I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of Cat. If Peja was gone, we would have a desperate need for another legitimate shooter and I think Cat is excellent in that capacity. Too much defense can be just as bad as too little defense.

We had to do what we had to do. The great thing is that we aren't stuck with Peja. He is VERY tradable if that was ever to come up. Some of the other deals were business moves and in hind sight Petrie must be a psychic.

Not long ago it was 'Peja "the best shooter in the nba,Peja this Peja that ,best 3pt shooter,on and on.I'm not one flame one of our players, but i've been waiting and waiting, and quite honestly.........I've given up on him....

You may have just hit a key point.

IF Peja hadn't asked for the trade last summer and IF there hadn't been all the drama, people might not be looking at him from quite the same perspective. But it all happened. Peja knows it all happened and I would think he would realize that he has to work harder than ever to prove himself to everyone from the Maloofs to the coaches to the players to the fans, etc.

If he keeps playing like he is he won't be as tradeable as he was before the deadline. We certainly won't get anything like we would have if we traded him then.

True. But who could we ship to Indiana for Artest. I really like his game, defense, and heart. If he could take some anger management classes or get some help to deal with is emotions, then I would love love love to have him on the team.

yeah

if you asked me like a month or go if i thought Cat would be gone there wouldn't be a doubt in my mind "yes he's gone"

but now...

i don't know...i think he'll be here next year....

i mean not that i hate that or anything I personally like Cat..ive liked him since his first day in the league...plus he's got this really great personality that i just can't ignore :)

One thing to consider is that Peja's value is going to drop considerably if he doesn't regain his shot. He's a shooter. That's what he's supposed to do. If even his wide open looks aren't falling, then people are going to start questioning why.

Ironically, those business deals that you think make Petrie look psychic COULD actually scare away some potential takers for Peja.

You know, the old...'Hey, wait. If Petrie's willing to trade him, what does he know that we don't know" scenario.

im not hating on your idea mazzy...but lets all let be known that Ron Artest is WAY WAY past anger managment classes...that ship has sailed a long time ago

I honestly think he can right the ship. It will just take alot of work on his part. Otherwise, what other legit perimeter defender could we swoop up, that also has a good offensive game.?

IF Larry Bird was interested, I think we could somehow finagle Peja into the mix, solely because I think Bird might believe he could get Peja to perform in a way we couldn't. If that was true, I think Bird just might be willing to pull the trigger but I don't know for sure.

I am quite sure, however, that we will all be talking about this between now and the beginning of the 2005-2006 season.

:D

One thing? Let's try not to hijack this thread because it does express the concerns of a lot of people. As long as we can keep our discussions civilized I think this is a thread worth keeping on track.

My main concern about Peja is that he has simply lost whatever drive or desire he had. Can he get it back? Does he WANT to get it back, at least as a Sacramento King, or is he just going through the motions waiting for trade possibilities?

^^^ True that. I am actually quite anxious to see what GP has in store for this team this summer. Hopefully he can put together a championship squad. Until then, I will try to enjoy the team we have now.

I broke the whole situation down like this....

Peja shoots ball, ball goes in, YAY!!!

Peja shoots ball, ball doesn't go in, BOO!!!

You are welcome, no need to thank me.

I have yet to hear Peja retract the fact that he asked to be traded,so I can only ASSUME he still wants to be traded,if it wer'nt for a "contract" he would'nt be here now.

I gave up on Peja after he dissapeared in the playoffs last year yet again. I believe we are stuck with him until his contract expires.
