our offense saturday in game 1

i was thinking about our offense on saturday and thought it looked a little stagnant. the spurs took us out of everything we wanted to do. everything was one of one for us from the opening tip. i noticed alot of screen and rolls were shut down. bibby/artest/bonzi are not comming off the screens hard enough. we need to force the spurs big men to come out and commit. this will create mix&matches. and we'll have a better chance getting open looks. brad miller can shoot the jumper or make the pass. but what's happening is that we're walking off the screens and the spurs big men step out and allow bowen/parker/manu to recover on defense. we did not successfully run the princeton. bibby and ron/bonzi must remain at the top of the wings. throw it to brad miller who will be at the top of the key. guards can screen off eachother to break free of defenders and its millers job to make the right pass. spacing was a problem for us.

my artwork sucks, but below is a diagram. to the left is what our offense looked like saturday. to the right is what it shouldve looked like. feel free to make adjustments.

It wasn't really our offense though...it was our defense. 73 first half points, 122 overall. 88 points is respectable, especially on their home court. It's just the defense that needs improving..

you all are forgetting that we only scored around 33 points in the first half. in the second half we scored about 55. the spurs were already up by 34 at halftime, so the 3rd and 4th quarter was pretty much considered garbage time. the spurs couldve kept us under 70 points for the game. so our offense really did struggle. we also shot 39%
