Should Omri Casspi be the starting small forward?

Now that we've seen Omri Casspi play his first NBA game, we can revisit the question from a while back...

I closed the other poll and am creating a new one since people's opinions may easily have changed.

5am here in israel and it was really nice to see how he has improved his catch&shoot and generally his shooting % .
Well done kiddo! keep it up..
my vote is YES - he should start the next game.
 
Not to be a downer but isnt it kind of contradictory for you to make self proclaimed drippingly sarcastic comments in defense of tyreke for his poor first game and then start a thread using that same single game that omri happened to play well in as an argument for why he should start?

(i know you're going to mention that mason played poorly and thats why you made the thread but regardless it is opposing applications of logic imo)

This thread is a revisitation to a thread that contained an earlier poll. Someone brought back the old thread and I felt it would be better to start a new thread to compare the feelings since the poll was dated and most people who would be voting in it had already done so...

And no - I wasn't planning on mentioning Mason at all, since it wasn't even part of the reason this thread was spun off from the previous thread.
 
I'm Glad you re-made my thread VF.

Omri played great tonight. His shot is quick as hell and very effective, he was easily the best player we had tonight. HE NEEDS TO BE IN THE STARTING LINEUP NEXT GAME. i dont want to hate on you Paul Westphal but so far its not a good start. starting Mason is rediculous.( I knew this the moment he put up a rushed contested 20 foot fade away jumper that went 5 feet wide of the net....) thats not what supposed "vets" do especially vets that CANT shoot.

START CASSPI!
 
The only problem with starting Casspi may be the lack of offense off the bench. Our second unit would have basically no one who can score much other than Noc.
 
I'm a casspi fan and I want noc to start, I don't want Omri will get too hyped, he has a lot of presure outside the court with being the first Israeli etc... he should build his nba game step by step

Whats the point in having a bench that can score if the starting line up cant.
Omris shooting range will spread the floor for Martin and Tyreke to drive. he will make thier lives alot easier on the court.

Whats the point in bringing both Noc and Omri off the bench? they both play the same position. SOOO this meens that Mason is sucking up Omris time.

Mason should be spelling Martin, not stealing minutes from our future SF.
 
I like 21-year-old rookie Omri simply because at age 32 Mason is no longer a high-flyer if he ever was and brings little else to the table at this stage of his mediocre NBA career. Omri seems more skilled at such a young age with his overseas pro experience. I'm not saying he's great or will ever be - but we need to find out and give him the shot now - not later. Noc off the bench with Mason around until Garcia gets back.
 
It's obvious that the starter should either be Noc or Casspi, Mason should absolutely NOT be starting. I'd rather see Noc start for now while Casspi is getting a little more experience. However, if Casspi keeps playing like this he'll be starting in no time...
 
we are so bad that it doesnt matter, we lost with him coming off the bench why not try losing with him in the starting lineup.

i say start sergio, casspi and hawes... just to see what happens, we might just win a game.

Dude, there isn't a team in the league that would start sergio. Agree with you on casspi and hawes though. It will hurt the team keeping them on the bench.

would this team be any worse? we can lose with him on the bench or we can lose with him starting. what do we have to lose but the next 81 games?
 
Hi everybody. Have been reading the forum for long time, finally joined. Good to be here, go Kings!
Yeah, yet another fan Israeli, watched the game on TV live broadcast here in Israel. Mixed feelings, nice game for Omri, but I have this feeling that he could be playing more, and not only in garbage time (well, 4th was GT mostly). Don't understand why Westphal likes Mason that much. Any ideas?
 
Casspi seems to be mentally tough. So I'm not worried about handing him the job too early. He'll take his lumps and learn from them. He seems to be a quick study and doesn't seem to have any glaring issues like Mason. Most importantly, he fits in better with the Evans and Martin back court. Evans is drawing lots of attention from the defense and having another capable shooter is only going to put more pressure on a defense. Mason out there is killling the team on offense and his supposed defensive stop ability looks weak to me.
 
Mason is done.... Casspi is not only looking good so far pre season-now but is obviously "the future" so while were terrible he might as well get the work...

I also support Greene off the bench for Casspi while Garcia is hurt

Hey, that shot only missed by two feet.. A little fine tuning and in a couple of years, that shot goes in..:eek:

This logic is like a racing team having two cars and starting the slower of the two so they can have the faster car in reserve if the slower one breaks down. The problem is that most of the time, the race is over by the time the faster car enters. AKA the first quarter of the game.
 
I vote for starting Casspi. But then I said that before this game. He hustles on defense, and there's no comparing Mason to him on offense. The Kings would be able to spread the floor more with Casspi on the floor. That opens up the middle more for Thompson, who saw nothing but traffic in there with Evans and Mason on the floor together.

Lets face it. Evans isn't a secret around the league. Everyone knows he's going to drive to the basket. Everyone knows that Mason can't hurt them from the outside. Thompson is a legit scoring threat, but he's basicly a guy that scores in the post. So if your the other team, you just clog the middle and make the Kings beat you from the outside. Thats what the Thunder did. On the other end they took advantage of the fact that we didn't have a true center on the floor and just attacked the basket.

Casspi,would not only help open the floor more for Thompson and Evans, but he'd give us more size on the defensive end, and he'd help with the rebounding. Will he make mistakes? Yes! Will he have some bad games? Sure!. But I would rather be asking those questions, instead of, will Mason have a good game? Will Mason actually hit a shot from 10 feet or futher? And please don't give me anymore BS about his defense. It didn't help much last night, did it?

Start Casspi. It can't hurt, and it might just help.
 
Omri had a certain swagger about him last night.. I liked it. He whole heartedly deserves the start tomorrow. Westphal would be an idiot not to start him.
