OJ Mayo suspended 10 days. lets get him while his stock is low

I wouldn't do that trade if I were Golden State so I don't see why Memphis would confirm it or deny it either way.

To reassure their own players (Mayo and Thabeet) that the management has their backs and aren't trying to get rid of them.

Below is a recent quote by Heisley, this one regarding a trade to the Knicks. But there was an earlier denial by the same party regarding a trade to Golden State.

“We are not trying to trade O.J. or Hasheem,” Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said. “We haven’t had any conversations about them, and I should know because I’m the one making the decisions.”

Not a fan of that one, either. We can't give up so much length for a person of questionable character and defensive ability. That, and we're giving up big for small. I don't like that one bit.

I think you can when the length is two inconsistent third year players that aren't developing as hoped. I just don't see JT or Greene being starters on this team. I could see Mayo being one, though.

our lotto pick for mayo? if not, what do you propose we give up to get this guy

No, not at all. I consider this year's draft pick untouchable unless there's a star headed our way in exchange. I would've absolutely considered a future first-rounder (as early as next year, when we should be on the upswing), along with Landry, who is IMO more talented than McRoberts. If that wasn't enough for Memphis, I would offer to shore up their PG spot behind or ahead of Conley with Beno or Jeter, depending on what their attitude about their financial status was. Maybe with the outgoing salary of Thabeet, they'd be more open to taking in a larger contract.

But oh well, our time has passed on this player. Gotta move on and fill that 2-guard spot through some other avenue.

Unless you are filling a need via Kyrie Irving, I don't see this draft pick for 2011 as "untouchable". I am not sure May is worth the pick, and I am not sure the Grizz think the pick is worth Mayo, but his situation is driving down what the Grizz can expect to get for him. I don't see him staying with the Grizz into next season, so there will either be a bidding war or a discount price, depending on what else happens.

Agreed. The Grizz lowered his trade value even more by trying to trade him....and failing. Shows they are shopping. Very few things are worse from a bargaining standpoint than letting people know you are willing to sell. Especially since Mayo is undoubtedly half way out the door knowing the organization tried to boot him.
