Offseason Plan 2.0

All-Star
Now that Adelman's gone, and with him Coachie and the Princeton, I thought I'd rejigger my offseason plan. With a new coach coming in there's going to be a new identity, and I think there's more incentive to really blow up the team and reconstruct it for the future.

Trades #1 and #2 are still the same, but the new plan ships out Brad Miller and Bonzi as well.

Trade #1
Chicago Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Tyson Chandler
Incoming
Francisco Garcia, Jamaal Magloire

Sacramento Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Kenny Thomas, Francisco Garcia, 2006 1st Round Pick
Incoming
Tyson Chandler

Milwaukee Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Jamaal Magloire
Incoming
Kenny Thomas, 1st Round Pick

Why for the Bulls: they get a more consistent center (whose deal just happens is expiring in 2007) and a promising shooting guard
Why for the Bucks: they get an athletic power forward (they have all centers) and a pick
Why for the Kings: interior presence, rebounding, shotblocking

Trade #2
Seattle Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Ray Allen, Earl Watson
Incoming
Mike Bibby, Corliss Williamson, Kevin Martin

Sacramento Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Mike Bibby, Corliss Williamson, Kevin Martin
Incoming
Ray Allen, Earl Watson

Why Seattle makes the deal: they get out from Ray Allen's deal and get a good point guard in Bibby, a young promising 2 guard and Corliss' expiring deal. There are rumors of a fire sale in Seattle, and I doubt they'd get a better deal than this.
Why Sacramento makes the deal: Watson fits the new defensive mindset, he's a great distributor, and he's added a shot. Martin may eventually turn into a star or he may not. But Allen would help the Kings win immediately.

Trade #3
Sacramento Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Brad Miller
Incoming
#5 pick

Toronto Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
#5 Pick
Incoming
Brad Miller

Why Toronto makes the deal: Chris Bosh really needs a center next to him, and Brad is just about as good as they come.
Why Sacramento makes the deal: Brad doesn't fit the post-Princeton defensive mindset, and the Kings get a high pick in return.

Trade #4
Sacramento trade breakdown:
Outgoing
Bonzi Wells (S&T)
Incoming
Nene (S&T)

Why Denver makes the deal: Unless Denver can dump Kenyon Martin and his huge contract they're going to be cash strapped, and they need a shooting guard more than they need another big.
Why Sacramento makes the deal: They get their backup 4/5

Draft
Kings draft Brandon Roy with the #5 pick

MLE
Kings sign Marcus Banks

LLE
Kings sign DJ MBenga

New Kings:
PG: Watson/Banks/Price
SG: Ray Allen/Roy
SF: Artest/Roy/Monia
PF: Abdur-Rahim/Nene
C: Chandler/Nene/MBenga

This is a tough defensive lineup balanced with offense. It's also a young group built for the future -- as Ray Allen and Shareef age they have talented apprentices behind them.

Indeed. :)

I am withholding any and all offseason plans until I see who the new coach is going to be.

If its Nellie, I am suggesting trading away everyone over 6'5".

If its Jordan, then bring the Princeton guys back.

If its Carlesimo, I'm thinking Bonzi and Artest may not be good ideas.

If its Jeff Van Gundy, I'm thinking get rid of anyone capable of averaging over 12ppg.

If its... ;)

I like all the trades, but the one trading away Bonzi. That would be very hard to take as well as KMart. The others look good. The Bonzi for Nene might be o.k., but I don't know that much about Nene, and know that I love Bonzi with his hustle and heart, that is something you cannot take for granted. Also can that Bonzi for Nene trade work...Bonzi is going to be making $8M+ and isn't Nene a young guy that just came back from major knee surgery????

Can you actually do double S&Ts?

Actually, I believe that yes, you can do double S&T's, but this particular trade is complicated by the fact that Nene would be a BYC player, so it might be really tricky to make the salaries add up.

If the Kings wanted to sign him to a deal starting at, say, $7 million, since that is more than a 20% raise on his rookie contract, for the purposes of the trade his cap value is $3.5 million. So it wouldn't work unless the Nuggets were able to dump a few million dollars in salary to a third team.

So this trade would be unlikely to say the least.

Very nice. As I was reading it I was thinking that I would then grab Brandon Roy w/ the #5, and then you had us taking him. . .brillant!! Can't cry about that lineup. Might be a little weak at the PG spot, and I would wonder how Ron and Ray would share the ball, but that is one tough/balanced team. We might need to start Nene to keep him happy, and SAR can't be mad about being the 6th man behind Nene and Chandler.

Watson/Banks are both good defenders, quick, athletic, pretty good scorers. Banks just needs to add a 3PT shot. Watson improved his jumper of course over the summer. Price of course has shown a few things.

Are you INSANE!

There is no way in you know where that I would trade Bonzi for Nene! I have to admit that I don't know much about him, but has he ever really proved anything in a consistent matter. Bonzi was amazing for us when healthy except for free-throw shooting. Chandler also gets in foul trouble way to much, so even if he's a great post defender it's usually only for limited minutes. I love the deal that I've heard between us and the bulls for Hinrich. I'd pick him up in a limo myself.

If the Maloofs ended up trading Bonzi for Nene, I wouldn't be leaping off any tall buildings over that deal.

Love Bonzi, want him back, but that wouldn't be so bad if it came to that.

Hey, I've been prognosticating the past few days, and let me give this a try, and if I'm wrong, so be it, but here goes:

-The Maloofs hire PJ Carlesimo
-The Kings trade Brad Miller to move up in the draft and draft PF/C LaMarcus Aldridge.
-Bonzi Wells signs elsewhere, and all the locals go irate.
-As to save face with the fans, the Maloofs/Petrie sign Bobby Jackson to a 4 year contract(contract for 4 years/about $24 million. saving about 4 Million a year, rather than signing Bonzi)
-Kings trade Kenny Thomas for draft picks(probably 2 second rounders or a future 1st rounder)
-Kings sign Nazr Mohammed with our 'mid-level' to start at center.

New Line-up next year-

PG-Bibby
SG-Martin
SF-Artest
PF-Reef
C-Mohammed

Bench-
Garcia
Bobby Jackson
Aldridge
Hart
Corliss
(although there might be one more bigger role player in here, depending on if we get a player or picks for Thomas)

If I'm only half right on all these moves, I'd still be happy...but we'll see.

Moving up in the draft makes no sense to me, unless its a few spots and a non-core member is involved in the deal. We need veteren talent to compete now. I don't expect or want to see the Kings making any moves for a top pick.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the pick was moved in a deal.

And the end result is a Kings team that is worse off next season. Subtract way more than we add.

I like most of the moves, C1985Fan. But 4-year deal for Bobby? Don't know about that, I'd say 2-3 is better. I wouldn't mind us getting him then. But ultimately would rather we get someone younger anyways, would be cheaper and still a good back-up PG.
