Okay, it's nearly that time. A little thing like having to start all over isn't going to stop us from once again having the incredibly popular KF Prediction Game.

For those of you who have participated before, welcome back. For those of you new to the game, welcome.

Here are the rules for the regular season 2004-2005:

2004-2005 Official Kingsfans Prediction Game Rules
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. All predictions must be in by the SCHEDULED start TIME of the game.
2. Once you have posted your predictions, you cannot edit them. So, if you select a player and later find out that player will not play, don't attempt to change your prediction.
3. The prediction game thread is JUST for predictions. A separate thread will be started for discussion of the game itself.
4. The purpose of the game is to have fun.
5. You may only name one player per category.
6. Predictions in the field goal % category, 3 pt. % category and the FT % category must be listed as whole numbers. (Note: the field goal % category is new for this year's regular season game.)
7. Prediction game results will be posted after the game. If you think your score is incorrect, send a PM to VF21 and include either a link to your prediction or the post #. Tallies will be posted at the end of the prediction game thread, which will show a ** once the results are there.

The OFFICIAL game thread will be posted in plenty of time to allow everyone to make their predictions. If someone is going to miss a game, they should send their predictions via PM to VF21 - who will post them into the appropriate game thread. To avoid confusion, game threads will be started by VF21 or - in the event of unexpected situations - 6th. This way, everyone will be looking for a familiar thread... and all the predictions will follow the same format. (That's the only way to tally predictions accurately and quickly.)

Prediction categories (with samples):
Game score: Kings 113-103
Top Kings scorer: Peja 28
Top Kings rebounds: Webber 14
Top Kings assists: Bibby 8
Top Kings blocks: Miller 3
Top Kings steals: Christie 4
Kings turnovers (TO) - 13
Kings field goal % - 38% (round to the nearest whole percentage)
Kings 3 pt. % - 41% (round to nearest whole percentage)
Kings free throw % - 85% (round to nearest whole percentage)

Here's how your predictions will be scored:

Game Score: 1 point is awarded for guessing King's score. 1 point is awarded for guessing the opponent's score. 5 points for correct scores of both teams. And you get 1 point if you predict the correct point spread.
Top Scorer: 1 point for name of scorer; 3 points for name and actual points scored.
Rebounds: 1 point for name of rebounder; 3 points for name and rebounds.
Assists: 1 point for name of assist leader; 3 points for name and number of assists.
Blocks: 1 point for name of top blocker; 3 points for name and number of blocks.
Steals: 1 point for name of top steals; 3 points for name and number of steals.
TO: 3 points
Field goal %: 3 points for exact percentage (rounded); 1 point if you are +/- 1 percentage
point.
3pt %: 3 points for exact percentage (rounded); 1 point if you are +/- 1 percentage point.
free throw %: 3 points for exact percentage (rounded); 1 point if you are +/- 1 percentage point.

If you're going to participate, please keep a copy of these rules for reference.

Woohoo! I am ready. It means the season is finally here. And, besides, I am ready to take my rightful place at the top of the leaderboard. :D

Since I was the champion last year, you're going to have to take it away from me and that aint going to happen this year. :p

Ah, nothing better than a little prediction game smack talk...

:D

BTW, there are TENTATIVE PLANS for some prizes, but nothing concrete as of yet. If we do end up giving prizes, it will be incidental to the game and not the reason for participation.

Prizes would be awarded to:

Regular season champion
Playoff champion
Consolation bracket champion
Single game high points winner

That's all I'm going to say about prizes for now, because it is completely up in the air.

This is all about fun, and competition, and bragging rights, etc.

Good luck to everyone.

This will be more incentive for me to retain my status, especially since I didn't get a prize last year but its the FUN that counts. So go ahead, I DARE you to take my status away. Go ahead, I DARE you!

:D

That was the funniest thing I read all day. Thanks for the laugh.
;)
Glad you enjoyed it. ;)

BTW - to answer your question from the prediction game thread (since we can't chat in that one - and I had already posted):

Flash is the nickname (that I really like) given to Kevin Martin by Kingsgurl. I knew that VF would know who I meant when she tallies the scores.

Yes, as you can see by the new addition to my signature, I know who "Flash" is and I love that nickname.

I'm still waiting for his Grandma to tell me if Kevin likes that nick or not. She was going to call him last night, so I should be hearing from her today. If he likes it, it's a go:) If he doesn't, I guess I shall just call him.........Kev:D

Well I guess you know the answer to that question now..lol

Just saw this thread...... Im going to kick some butt this year..... Well Im going to try:p

This is great. Seems to be a lot of fun. You guys are really innovative.
This will be my first year in this game. So say Hello to the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR for the Predictions game, probably the MVP, too ;)

hey!!! there is only one MVP on this forum, and yall know who that is!!! :D

For the record, the Prediction Game was originally the brainchild of Iggy. He actually has a life, however, so he passed the torch to me a couple of years ago...

If you're new, welcome. All I ask is that you make sure you keep your predictions in the order given AND that if you have a problem with how your score has been tabulated, you send me a PM... (That way all my errors aren't exposed for the whole board to see.) ;)

Does preseason even count?
...sigh...

Pre-season games are a time IN THIS INSTANCE for people to get used to playing the prediction game, learning the rules (if they're new), etc.

This is in the FANTASY & GAMES forum. We're only talking about the Prediction Game... nothing more.

:D

hi, i'm new here, and i just want to know if you post your prediction like a day before the game?¿ or exactly before tip-off?¿ what if you post like in the middle of the game or you post while the game started like 1 minute after tipoff¿..tnx... /V /) ,_/™

The rules are very specific. You post your predictions in the thread for that game. I will always start the thread in plenty of time... You cannot post once the game has started AND you cannot edit your posts once you have made them if you post them early and then wish you had picked something else.

As far as posting right before tip-off goes, you run the risk of something happening and not getting your picks in timely. While I sometimes make allowances for unavoidable delays, the decision is MINE and there is no guarantee I will allow late postings for any reason.

Cool ... way cool !!!

I'm in ....

Welcome to the game, Folsom Al. It is a lot of fun, including the friendly bantering about results. :p

I've had a couple of people question how the turnovers are counted. I use the official stats from NBA.com... I use the figure at the bottom of the player columns, which means the result is always the total of the turnovers of the individual players.

Occasionally, the TO result will be shown as two different figures. The total of the players will be one figure and on occasion another total will be shown, which may be off by one or two.

I have ALWAYS used the total of the individual player turnovers. It was explained to me a couple of years ago that it is the correct figure.

There may be differing opinions about which total is accurate. All I want to make clear is that I have always used the total of individual player turnovers.

PLEASE NOTE: I have revised rule #1. From now on, all predictions will have to be in by the scheduled start time of the game. Thank you...
