Official 49ers news thread

Well, it certainly figures. I switched over to watch Survivor... and then turned on The Office Christmas Special.

...

Saw the highlights on ESPN...Alex Smith must've read this thread at halftime, cause he was flat out NAILS on those thows in the 2nd half. That 54 yard pass was perfect. And on the TD pass to Gore, he just shook off that DB sack like a dog sheds water off his fur.

I still haven't seen the highlights.

But it is GREAT to see Vernon Davis catch another TD.

I can't wait for Vernon to explode...The guy excites me even when he makes little two yard catches.

So just how deep is this year's draft?

:p

I'm furious with Antonio Bryant. I'm sick to death of watching teams suffer because their players are too stupid to stay away from dope. If I was Dr. York, I'd fire his arse.

Ah well, draft picks here we come. This team clearly has a long way to go. They showed some sparks this year, but it really would have been just plain silly if we'd made the playoffs. :)

The Card's "FG" followed by our nice runback, ensuing pick by Smith and Battle fumble summed up our season pretty nicely I think.

We still have a pretty bad record and have just shot up the draft board I think. Especially if we lose in Denver. Knowing this team we will probably beat Denver though. Oh my.... am I hoping we lose to Denver? Yes.

As I often do, I must comment although not a fan :)

Actually pretty surprising, with the playoff hopes alive, they come out and look horrible. Seattle is all but gift wrapping the playoffs to the Niners and they don't take advantage. If you can beat Seattle but cannot beat the Cards? Show a lack of something...

I would not use the excuse "young team" as thats just another excuse. There are plenty of other YOUNG teams that are doing well. There are plenty of other teams that are hurt.. now as a basher of Alex I must continue... Alex Smith so far has not shown me he can be a good QB. He has a flash here and there. But year 2 and he looks at times like he did last year. Year #3 is the magical year for QB's so lets see.

They lost, Lack of preparation?? they looked horrible. I liked Nolan as a niner coach but the more I watch him this year, the more I don't like. Whats up with this guy?

I was actually rooting for you guys today so, I feel let down myself, just had to preface that with all my comments.

On defense today, it seemed to me that the 49ers were focusing more on stripping the ball and making a hit, rather than a solid tackle. I don't know what that's worth but I was noticing that.

As for Alex Smith, I think he'd be great with more weapons getting open and making catches. But he's not going to do diddily poo squat by himself. Like Vince Young. Man is VY fun to watch right now.

I did notice that and have some experience with the above...stripping the ball vs making the tackle. I have no idea why some coaches decide to teach stripping vs just making the tackle. This is at all levels, even down to pee-wee's. Drove me crazy this year.

Smith has weapons, he has one of the top RB's, who is a great reciever, he has a decent WR crew and he has by far one of the best TE's in Davis (btw That guy is just a stud)... Not sure I can buy the no weapons excuse, I could buy he needs a better line, but even the line is not that bad. You cannot have a top 3 runner without a decent o-line.

Today was a game they should of won, they had to win. A lot of this has to go on the coach. Just think how much that 4th/1 call affected the entire season.

Sorry, but I've been spoiled by John Taylor and Jerry Rice - I don't know if anything will compare to them. :D Still, Alex HAS made progress, just not as much as we would have liked. Remember, he IS still young in age.

Okay, I can't help myself...

The 49ers at least have an excuse. What happened to the Cowboys?

:p

Sorry, BW. But it was simply too good to pass up. And how ironic was it that the 49er QB I disliked the most was the one dumping all over your boys on national TV? I couldn't even be that happy about it because it was Garcia and I didn't want to be a hypocrite.

:)

HAHAHA thats okay VF I had it coming. O M G I am so upset about it even today, absolutely a disaster and the Eagles, IMO enemy #2 right behind SF.

Just watch, the Niners will probably go into Mile High and clobber the Broncos just to torture us with one last "what if" to end the season.

Well, they didn't clobber them but they kept the Broncos out of the playoffs.

NINERS!!!!!

Nice win to end the season on a positive note (especially on the road). Frank Gore broke the team record for most rushing yards and most total yds from scrimmage. He was also the first Niner to lead the conference in rushing. He had a great season. Gore ended the game with 153 yds rushing.

On another note, Smith made a nice throw on 3rd down to keep our last drive alive in OT.

Glad re-signed Nedney. He's been really solid all year.

Well, they didn't clobber them, and I'm not saying "What if! What if!" to myself; just happy to see them finish the season on a good note.

The 49ers came out hitting HARD today and being a little too aggressive (penalties) but I liked the intensity. They knocked Cutler out and nearly took Plummer out.

Walt Harris was big today.. all season. Very underrated pickup.

Didja see Vernon Davis get knocked out?

Gore was awesome! Minus that one missed pass that led to Champ Bailey INT for a TD.

Alex looked good in the 2nd half and came through on that final drive in OT.

Great team win heading into next year. It did take us from about the 8th pick in the draft to #12 but I think it was worth it!

Should be a fun off-season for the 49ers. Much money and draft picks. Free Agents seeing the 7-9 49ers knock out Denver can't hurt either. The 49ers are a team pointed in the right direction.
