Offense vs. Defense in Phoenix (3/3/05)

In other words, Suns vs. Pistons. Part of the way into the second quarter, and the Pistons have put the clamps on the Suns, holding them to one basket so far in the second quarter, and 5 points in the last 7 minutes of the game. Pistons up 32 - 26.

Sheed having a good game to this point with 10 points and 5 boards. That guy is such a headcase / underachiever it's troubling.

Pace picking up just a tad over the remainder of the second quarter. Suns hitting from 3 in the last portion to push their score to 50 at halftime, and the Suns lead 50 to 47.

Suns doing well at holding their own, but I suspect Detroit will grind this one out in the second half.

It's all politics they let detroit be over agressive in their last 6 or 7 games.Similar to what they do with the spurs by letting the defense play football bump n run on against the opponents, you can grabbed hold push and shove. Then let them get enough road wins and then get everybody prepared for the Big game thursday on TNT,Pistons #2 in the EAST versus the Suns #2 in the west. This stuff is all about politics and controlled for profit.

Pistons hold Suns to 16 in the 3rd while scoring 29 to take a 10 point lead into the 4th quarter (score one for defense, with an assist from the Suns terrible D)...

But Suns start out the 4th quarter on a 10-0 run. Pistons now up 4 (82-78)with 7:33 left in the game.

Offense now taking control (with an assist from the Pistons inconsistent offense). Suns on an 8-0 run to take an 89-84 lead with 4 minutes left in the game.

Chauncey Billups with 4 straight to bring the Pistons within 1 with just over a minute left.

Then Nash drops a three on the Pistons.

Anyone think Prince and McDyess would look good in a Kings uniform?

I don't really think McDyess would look good in a Kings' uniform (although I guess as a backup C he might not be too different than Skinner). He doesn't really bring anything to the team that it doesn't already have, and he's much more limited athletically (similar to CWebb) due to all of his knee problems over the years.

Detroit only gives up 88 per game, btw. Phoenix averages 110. Right now looks like the Suns are probably going to split the difference.

Suns up 4 with Nash going to the line for two shots with just under 40 seconds left.

3.2 seconds left, Pistons ball down 100-97.

It's certainly not over, but other than Sheed and Chauncey, who takes this three for the Pistons? I guess Hamilton is another option, but you certainly don't have to guard Ben Wallace...

Wallace out for the final play, and Billups misses a three at the buzzer. Suns win. Score one for offense for the time being.

Kings' aspirations (unrealistic as they may be) of winning the Pacific aside, I'm glad the Suns won this game.

susn proved tonight they can score in the halfcourt against a great defensive team.
If you say so. Of course I have always held that a game that could be won if the last shot goes doe not prove mcuh of anything except that the game was as close as you can get.

that was a beautiful game. i knew i'd like the result (no matter who lost), but i was impressed with the suns at the end.

what was their shooting percentage in the fourth quarter? 67% ? not sure, but it lended some creedence to what kenny smith said about great offense beating good defense in the end. the spurs have been a little soft at the end of games too, lately.

its unfortunate that the Pistons let the Suns actually believe now that they can roll with them come playoff time

hahahaha i don't think so

it was as horrible as a fourth quarter for the Pistons as it was a third quarter for the Suns...thats why in end the Pistons lost....they relaxed on defense and they couldn't buy a shot

good game though i guess

Pretty good game, but I just don't think Phoenix has what it takes to take home the ring. I was actually laughing, and thinking wow, Phoenix doesn't play a lick of defense either.

suns proved exactly what i said about them

when they want to they can play great defense and they can score in the halfcourt set. Both things people say you need to do in the playoffs. People can keep sleeping on them come palyoff time but the fact remains they will be a threat and be very tough to beat in a 7 game series. No matter what people on here like to think, the NBA is changing where there are more run and gun teams. There are more defensive teams in the east than the west.

i think there are more defensive teams in the west. you just pointed out that scoring doesn't mean a team isn't defensive. the suns get a lot of points out of being defensive. i think the teams in the east just can't score as well (in general).

i don't think anyone is going to take the suns or the sonics lightly, even if their success lacks experience, even if they aren't traditional (recent tradition, that is). the lakers were a good scoring team, but they were very strong in fourth quarter defense. i should know, they clamped down on the spurs many times to pull out wins.
