Lost in the wake of the tragedy in Haiti, it went relatively unnoticed that Teddy Pendergrass passed away yesterday. One of the most influential performers of his era, if there were a Mount Rushmore of R&B singers from the seventies, I would be tempted to put him on it.

A quick personal anecdote: you know how sometimes couples will tease each other, and say that if so-and-so knocked on the door and asked them to run away with them, they'd go in a heartbeat? For my mom, "so-and-so" was Teddy Pendergrass.

My mother in law was that same way about Teddy Pendergrass. He was one of my favorites too (but not for the same reason as her .) Dude was smooth.
