Carmelo Anthony's lawyer said the
Denver Nuggets forward's
blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit when he was arrested on April 14, The Denver Post reported.
"We received notice that Carmelo's blood test came back over the legal limit," attorney Dan Recht said, according to the report. "This is old news in that Carmelo has admitted from the beginning that he had been drinking and driving and he should not have been."
Anthony faces a May 14 court appearance on charges of driving under the influence.
Police said Anthony was arrested on April 14 on Interstate 25 after
he was pulled over for weaving and not dimming his lights. He failed a series of sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI and then taken to police headquarters before being released to a "sober responsible party."
A day later, Anthony apologized, saying he was "truly sorry" for his arrest.
"I'm here to man up to my mistake, just to let you know that I'm truly sorry for what happened and everything that's going on," Anthony said. "What happened Monday morning was truly and totally unacceptable."
The Nuggets, who were eliminated from the playoffs on Monday, have yet to punish Anthony, saying they would wait for the legal process to conclude.
