Now that PW is fired, the players, especially DMC, have no more excuses

A lot of you have defended DMC to no end. Even though I wanted PW fired, I have defended him on the DMC issue because DMC has a history of causing problems. Now that DMC got his wish and PW is gone, he needs to GROW UP and BE A MAN. This is his opportunity to turn it around. If he has an issue with Keith Smart or whomever ends up coaching this team long term then it's ON HIM and I would expect all of you who have defended him to stop defending him!

Also, the other players are going to have to step it up as well and put in maximum effort on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. I'm assuming after a couple of weeks or so, Smart will change up the schemes and get rid of PW's crappy system. It will take some time so be patient. But after that, it's up to the players. No more excuses!
 
I'd say Westy being a horrible coach for this team and Cousins immaturity are separate issues.

Westy had to go, lost this team, not just Cousins, and clearly a change had to be made. I don't believe it's Cousins who got his wish. Don't like the way that's phrased. Cousins may have had a bigger problem with Westy than his teammates, but I believe the entire team got it's wish today. I just don't think other players have been as vocal publicly. So to say Cousins got his wish is misleading, imo. The entire team got it's wish, and the entire team now has to step it up, Cousins included.

However yes, Cousins does have to grow up. Can't have friction with two consecutive coaches.
 
We all knew this was coming eventually, but I thought they would at least let PW finish the road trip. guess not

I find it almost necessary for Petrie to have another talk with Cousins and his agent to state very clearly that PW's firing has nothing to do with him. You don't want DMC to think he is bigger than the coach and the FO from here on. Even though PW's performance was what got him fired, we can't help that DMC will think HE is a big part of the reason why.

They did finish the road trip. They play at home tonight. I think this was a big part of why today. He was going to be boo'd big time in intros and any little run would have the crowd booing.
 
everyone has no excuses now, DMC and Tyreke need to prove they are the type of talents you build a team around. Right now Tyreke looks like a one dimensional black hole. I give him this year and the start of next season before you seriously start to re-consider "Tyreke as our franchise player". The only thing that worries me about DMC is his attitude. The talent is there in spades, just needs to put it all together on and off the court. Tyreke on the other hand HAS TO develop an outside jumpshot or his drive in game is useless.

DeMarcus is not as stupid as you are trying to portray him.
 
Nobody has defended DMC. Every poster has carefully pointed out DMC's problems before pointing out Westy's problems. I don't give a damn of how this appears. If people think that DMC got Westphal fired, they haven't been paying attention. Westphal got Westphal fired. The only role that DMC had in this is to highlight the problem. DMC did NOT ask that Westphal be fired.

Well I agree with you, IF. If Cousins starts tonight and the guards are told to feed the post. Cousins should run the offense and try to score in the post on every half court play and if he is double teamed he needs to kick it out. Thornton, Salmons and Jimmer are good enough shooters to make teams pay if left unguarded.

The 1 on 5 offense has got to stop! The contested jump shots early in the shot clock need to stop.

Yeah, but as we all know with kids: it's not what you say; it's what you do. The message behind Westphal's firing has been sent and received by Cousins. No turning back now.

Cousins needs to grow up, or else he'll end like Westphal, immature, overrated, and FIRED!!
 
Yes and no.

There are no more excuses with regards to effort and intensity. We can all see that, and we should see improvement. It was clear that players weren't playing for Westphal.

Offensively? What can be implemented in one afternoon? Not a whole much? One week? Maybe some. It's almost like we need to hit the reset button on the season. What is Smart's offensive philosophy? How does it differ from Westphal's?
My guess is that we'll see increased efforts, but a continued string of losses until there is a break to be able to implement new ideas and strategies, which is difficult given the shortened season. Can this team out-talent some on the schedule? Yeah, of course. It'll be tough sledding, but overall, I'm glad to see that the FO realized a change had to be made.

What's your point? A free pass for the players and DMC to continue putting a pathetic effort on the floor? For DMC do act like an idiot to yet another coach? Good plan!
 
One of the problems the Kings team had has been taken care of. Now on to the rest. Poor defense. No offense. In the short term I believe the defense should get the attention. Someone said that fixing the fast break defense wasn't such a big deal because the rest of the defense was just as bad. I differ. Even if they are both bad, fixing one would be a big step in the right direction. Since, in my book, you can't fix them all all at once, defense, even just fast break defense is a natural and easier place to start. I repeat my new starting five to accomplish this - EVANS, GARCIA, HICKSON, COUSINS, THOMPSON. Try it.
 
No one is giving anyone a pass. I'm sure if the new coach is OK we'll start to rip the players apart as usual.
