Could see it coming. Replace the 6'11" longarmed shotblocker with the 6'6" groundbound guy. SMH.

This will also once again provide me the opportunity to mention Petrie's HORRIBLE record when it comes to acquiring or retaining shotblockers. he just doesn't get it. Never spends resources to get top ones. Never spends resources to retain the few he gets. Daly? 1yr. Justin Williams? 1 yr. Skinner, if he counts? 1yr. Tag 1yr. Keon Clark 1yr. Yogi Stewart? 1yr. He can't see it. Its a major hole in the ole genius. There are teams that over the same period of time have almost never been without one or more. Makes no sense that a man credited with being such a great talent evaluator, such a sneaky trader, should over 15 years never be able to acquire a single player of a certain sort that sticks. No sense that is unless he just does not value that sort of player and sits at home every June wathcing other teams play for the rings and wondering what the heck Cuban is thinking having not 1 but 2 of those worthless tall longarmed guys out there when they can't even shoot a three.

You guys are actually surprised by this? It's kind of funny how Sammy complained in Philly about not being a part of the offense, then he comes here and is a part of the offense and says he's happy. And now he's gonna jump ship to a team where he won't be a part of the offense once again

Not completely disagreeing with the overall premise, but these are poor examples, minus Dalembert. Williams and Clark didn't do squat after leaving and were out of the league shortly thereafter. Tag was awful, at the end of his career and was not worth keeping around just because he could block a shot. He ended up retiring the next year. Yogi actually stuck around for quite a while after leaving, but you know what his BLK average was after his 2.4 season with the Kings? A whopping 0.4. I guess they could have kept Skinner around, but I certainly didn't want him on the team. He's just not a very good player.

Probably why the rookies (see Fredette, Jimmer) haven't been signed as of yet.

I think the Kings know Dalembert is gone, and if he runs out of options then the Kings at least only have to sign him for four years now. ;)

They still have Whiteside. Being as optimistic as I possibly can be, I will say perhaps Whiteside with a healed patellar tendon looks a lot better. Nobody knows but the Kings.

Yeah, right!

I really don't know what to think. Is this a negotiating strategy? Were the Kings and Daly in talks, but Daly isn't ready to commit, so they had to do this because of the cap hold? Was Daly ever interested in resigning? Is another move in the works, to bring in an actual center, or a more likely replacement for Daly?

So many possibilities, so few answers.

Oh, all of that flows nicely into the other half of my argument -- we never spend resources and go hard after these guys so we are stuck sifting through bottom of the barrel types. Second round picks. Undrafted rookies. Throw ins in larger deals. A guy in Clark who had the contrat he was negotiating with Toronto suddenly fall apart, so we step in and take him near the end of the offseason. We might have spent more resources (basically Hawes) getting Daly than we ever have any other player of the sort in the entire Petrie era, and still it looks like its working out the same way again.

If Pat Riley is our GM Dalembert does not get away unless he's replaced by an equal. Pat Riley has a lot more hardware on his fingers than does Geoff.

Agreed.
Glad I could help with the transition into your 2nd part : -)

Should also be noted: he shouldn't be a part of anyones offense. ;)

Samuel Dalembert says he hasn';t totally ruled out Sacramento even though Kings have renounced him. "The door is still open.''
Dalembert on Sacramento: "I understand teams have to do things for financial reasons. They can still make me an offer.''

Sammy not feeling the love out there? scared of being left out in the cold ( Like Toronto LOL )

He said Toronto would be like going home? didnt know he was from canada Eh?

Crying over spilled milk. Dally has not won a championship so why do we keep thinking he is the key to us winning a championship? We need to do more than just trot out a shotblocking center. No team that has won a championship was based solely on having a shot blocking presence. Its nice to have but really not a necessity. Tough hardnosed defense and the ability to score in crunch time are what matters most. And Hassan Whiteside is a shotblocker so maybe the brass has confirmation that he is healthy and working hard to compete.

boo hoo we dont need him.. havent been a fan of him since he betrayed canada. we have enough assets to trade for a defensive center if we really want to get one.

You really think its that easy that any tall guy can just replace one of the leagues all-time leading shot-blockers?
Whiteside could be a better shot blocker than Sammy. The problem is can he do anything else? Can't block shots if you can't get on the court. And you can't get on the court if you are a liability in all other areas. Here's hoping he is making strides :)

I must of missed that HOF center everyone says we had last season, Dally did good some times, but he wasn't right out dominate like the best shot blockers in the league are. For every good play he made, he would miss a box out or a rotation the next few series. If he was really a dominate player on the defensive end, our defense would show for it. It was nice having a tall 7 foot guy that would try to block some shots but I dont think Dally is worth what he thinks he is. Whiteside can easily replace that production if given the minutes.

None of us knows Whiteside's status. At the least there must be a matchup with a team or two where he can be effective. I'd rather have Daly but Whiteside was once thought to be a first round pick and dropped perhaps because no one knew he was injured or maybe because of the fear of anyone with an injury anywhere around the knee. Anyway, he will not be useless - just not as useful as Daly or a player similar to Daly.

He isn't, he's from Haiti but he became a Canadian citizen, played for the national team once I think, then turned his back on them. I know this because I'm Canadian. I live in an igloo and we only got electricity here last week
