[NFL] NFL Thread (26-27)

It figures. The Niners trade down 3 spots from #27 to #30 and then the last first round graded OT goes at pick #28... so they just punt on the first round all together. Getting extra picks is nice, I guess. I would have rather they just drafted Caleb Lomu at #27 though.

Very happy with Bears pick of Thiennemen or however you spell it
Cowboys actually did a good thing to trade up and take Downs
Giants with good draft so far
Jets getting some very good pieces

The joke is Shanahan loves taking WR's in the second and third rounds while the team continues to ignore the massive holes on the offensive line... but Denzel Boston at #33 would at least be the type of receiver this team has been missing for years. That is: someone who can haul in jump balls in the Red Zone where all of Shanahan's fancy movement schemes at the line of scrimmage have been less effective. Mike Evans was already signed to fill that role but he's likely just a short-term rental. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren also wouldn't be a bad option if the Niners stay at #33. A tall, physical box safety is generally a useful player to have and is also notably missing from the current roster.

Another YAC guy, it looks like. Fits the mold of who Shanahan and Lynch like at the position. It's kindof odd given they had a full day to think about it that they would end up using the top pick of round 2 on a guy most had going in the middle of the third round but that's also consistent with Shanahan and Lynch's overall approach to the draft. Every year they reach on somebody. Just never an offensive lineman...

Really? WR? Did we not just sign Evans and Kirk? I get these guys are ancient but our WR draft history the last several years has been less than stellar. Anyone have any insight to this guy from Ole Miss?

Looks like Stribling was one of the biggest late risers in the class. Had to turn down visits with the interest he was getting. Dane Brugler (one of the top "public" draft guys) was pretty confident he'd go top 64, just wasn't sure how high.

Seems like a damn near 1 for 1 replacement for Jennings with a 4.36 on top of it. Pretty universal he's the best blocking WR, has a great mentality and approach. YAC guy.

I don't have a problem with the Stribling pick. A bit of a reach, he might have been there at #58 but if you like the guy that much, why take a chance. It's just the general lack of attention paid to what has been a flaming disaster of an Offensive Line for the last 3 years in a row which continues to bother me, but it is what it is. After they traded down at #27 it was obvious they weren't taking an OT. Trent Williams is going to be wheeled onto the field with bolts coming out of his neck like Frankenstein's monster pretty soon and he'll still be better than the other 4 dudes starting with him.

My hot takes after only seeing one min highlight reels:

Stupid pick position wise but Stribling looks legit.

Height does not look very effective. 2-3 sack guy max.

Black is a total waste of a pick. Looks like a 6th rounder. I really can't believe they took him that high but I can because they just can't help but draft bust RBs in the 3rd round.

Dee Winters started last year looking like Dre Greenlaw but then got worse as the season went on and on and obviously wound up super low on the depth chart when the Niners brought actual Dre Greenlaw back and Tatum Bethune showed out playing in place of Fred.
Bethune is slow as molassas and not starter level quality. Greenlaw got released from Broncos, and I wonder on his quality now - the LB they picked up last year in the draft was injured and didn't play much.
