I’m taking Doug. This way Scott can say I stuck with his potential and wanted to see how he does. Should Doug succeed then Scott looks good for seeing something in him. On the other hand if Doug does poorly then he can claim Doug wasn’t his hire and dump it on Monte or whoever. It’s a win-win for Scott in the eyes of the fans.

Well, your conditional I think is unlikely because there are still a lot of vacancies left to fill but let's say the Kings are the only one offering him a job. I think that he wouldn't want to come here because the owner moves on from coaches every 2 years, and there isn't the personnel for the style he likes to play (mainly one big defensive anchor). He should probably go to SA if he wants a head coaching gig. He might also be perfectly happy being the defensive coach on a team. I don't think he has a strong desire to be the head coach, but I could be wrong.

One possible reason would be that he's 63 and looking for lower-stress jobs as he winds down his career. Do we even know he's looking for a head coaching job?

I'm sure that the bad blood between Sac fans and his brother wouldn't help the case, for either side.
 
JVG never won NBA title. Most famous it seems for squabbles gets into on the court like wrestling with Alonzo Mourning's leg in a fight between players on his Knicks and the Heat (playoffs 1998). Or the other day he got into near wrestling contest with Nikola Jokić both ripping at the ball to get control as it bounded out of bounds along Clips bench. Hiring someone like Van Gundy would mean Kings back to the revolving door head coaches routine and settling for mediocrity.

What did hiring Mike Brown mean?
 
I'm just saying it is long pattern of revolving door with the Kings and head coaches. The picture in you profile, clearly he's not one of them and Mike Brown was good hire until sent packing and interim coach now in his place.
 
If Doug isn't the one I'd prefer the head coach be an offensive mind with defensive specialists on the bench.

JVG just strikes me as way too old school. It makes sense if he is a defensive specialist and lead assistant. At 63 he's somewhat younger than I thought, I guess because he was balding in his early 30s and has been around so long. I can imagine him going somewhere for a payday where he'll also get an early retirement on that huge payday. Hopefully that's Phoenix or Denver or maybe even Memphis, Memphis's young coach is someone I'd not mind if we didn't want Doug. Hard to see that happening. (not Jenkins, the Finn)

I respect this stance, but am actually kind of on the opposite boat...I'd prefer a more defensive-minded head coach with offensive specialists on the bench. I think we've been more of an offensive-minded franchise for far too long, and I'd be open to welcome a change in philosophy. I've been inching to see a defense in Sacramento similar to the likes of the Tim Duncan/David Robinson/Bruce Bowen Spurs, or the Big Ben/Tayshaun/Rasheed Pistons.

The issue to me is the offense completely crashed and burned when we added Zach and we need someone who can make Zach and Domas work together because I am pretty sure that we are stuck with them for next season.

I think the defense could be solved if we send a few non-defenders to new homes. JVG isn't going to turn this roster into a defense squad.
 
Wanted Doug years ago , so going to stick with it. Although the fact that Vivek loves him makes me question my decision making

I don't think a single analyst was surprised. Who would have predicted that Lavine, Derozan, and Sabonis would be a great match? Yet, the owner had to have him because he's explosive

Just to be clear...I'm not advocating for JVG. As a matter of fact, I want us to stay as far away from him as possible.
