Mercury News.com: Timberwolves sit Garnett, beat Hawks

Garnett had made 351 consecutive starts, the longest active streak in the NBA. That ended against the Atlanta Hawks, but rookie Rashad McCants scored a career-high 28 points in the Wolves' 84-83 win.

Coach Dwane Casey said it is possible Garnett will not play in any of the remaining five games as the team develops young players for the future.
Hope none of you fantasy warriors have the Big Ticket...

Isnt that the craziest thing you ever heard? What the hell is going on in Minny?

Who does that? Sure, if they had a playoff position wrapped up, maybe...but in their situation? I'd say his days there are numbered.

Already posted this in the WC thread, but yeah, interesting stuff here. At least they'll get to see more of their younger players... McCants already being one of them since January.

1) This impacts more than just the Western Conference. It will likely affect the entire draft, as I understand Minnesota would have to forfeit their first-round pick if it is 10th or lower.

2) I felt that it deserved its own thread.

I figure KG makes about $220,000 per game. That's 1million+ for the five games.

I'd ask for a partial refund if I were a season ticket holder.=)

No they don't. They added lottery protection to the pick they traded to the clippers.

That is a pretty interesting quote...

I can read a lot into that and if so we better be ready to mortgage the entire farm.

The guy that I'm playing in the finals has KG on his team and if he doesnt play the 5 remaining games that would help me a lot :D

I beg to differ. And so does the Pioneer Press.

The draft pick widely had been described as lottery protected, meaning it was believed Minnesota would keep the selection if the Wolves didn't make the playoffs this season. But that's not entirely accurate. The Wolves will keep the pick if they draft in slots 1-10. But the Clippers will get the pick if it's 11th or lower.

I was off by one; you were just plain off.

Wow, Mchale is really worse than I thought. What a freaking idiot. That was a dumb trade in the first place, and then the wolves only keep the pick if they suck really bad instead of just sucking kind of bad.

Oh well, I guess that's what I get for not researching things.

Not only that, but if some other team beats the ping pong balls, they could get screwed anyway... it wouldn't even be unusual if they finished with the ninth-worst record but got stuck with the eleventh pick because some other team "moved up" in the draft.

Kevin is not completely healthy. He has minor problems all year.
So they try to showcase their youth so that they have as much value as possible plus they can tank though against Atlanta they were not exactly successful.:)
I don't believe this "youth movement". I think they will try to get immediate help for their young guys with potential but not so much production and if this fail Kevin will probably available at deadline or summer 2007.

Is Duane Casey trying to commit career suicide? Or was this Kevin McHale's doing?

Either way, Garnett is available this summer. Can't imagine him staying in Minnesota after this. Not that it's a huge deal itself, but with everything else that's been going on up there the past two or three years, I can't imagine him staying with the Wolves.

What I'm afraid of is KG ending up with the Lakers for next year. Didn't the Lakers set things up to have a fair amount of salary available for this off season?

who would the lakers have to trade? since they waived grant they dont have anyone who makes enough money outside of kobe unless they trade odom and brown.....

Part of an article...I'm not the only one thinking LA may be in play for KG.:(

Where might Garnett go if the team decides to cut ties? The Lakers, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls are among the teams reportedly interested.
The Lakers are an obvious possibility because Garnett owns a home in Malibu, Calif., and spends his summers there. He would seem to make the Lakers instant contenders in the Western Conference if paired with Kobe Bryant.

But if the Wolves don't receive Bryant in return — and there's no chance of that happening — then who on the Lakers' roster is appealing enough to pull the trigger? Odom almost certainly would have to be included because his $12.4 million salary next year would be a necessary component. Odom, center Chris Mihm and point guard Smush Parker, plus the Lakers' first-round draft pick this season, might be a start.

The Warriors will have a lottery pick this summer they can add to a package that could include guard Jason Richardson and forward Troy Murphy.

As for New York, reports surfaced this season about Knicks boss Isaiah Thomas' plan to make a run at Garnett. The Knicks are stocked with bad contracts, and whether the Wolves would want to take on any of those is doubtful. Still, the Knicks could offer guard Steve Francis and promising forward Channing Frye. That would reunite Garnett and Stephon Marbury.

The Bulls have two high first-round picks this summer, including what figures to be the No. 1 overall selection, and plenty of young, talented players. What about big man Tyson Chandler, swingman Luol Deng and guard Ben Gordon?
