According to www.nba.com/bulls, it's official...

Curry Traded to NY
Breaking News: Bulls GM John Paxson announced that the team has traded center Eddy Curry to the New York Knicks. Details of the trade will be posted as soon as they become available.

This was something the Bulls had to do.

Not only could they not risk a longterm deal with the concerns about Curry's heart, but at this point I'm guessing the chances of Curry re-signing next offseason if he took the Bulls' one year offer hovered right around zero.

I wonder if Zeke tossed a draft pick Chicago's way. Apparently that's what they were holding out for when the deal was brought up last week.

Of course, Isiah Thomas did exactly what you'd expect a Knicks GM to do. Instead of letting a big expiring contract like Tim Thomas expire for some salary relief, he packaged it (with another, smaller ending K) for yet another overpaid big man.

Even after adding Channing Frye, Jerome James and now Eddy Curry, the Knicks are still going to lack rebounding. . .

Your best bet is to check the primary sites, like the Bulls site, yahoo, etc. Anything that shows up on realGM will be taken from somewhere else...

Very interesting. From the article:

Paxson, speaking during the team's media day, told reporters the Bulls had offered Curry $400,000 annually for the next 50 years if he failed the genetic test.

"So he would have an above-average lifestyle that would put him in a position that most other people aren't in," Paxson said. "Our intention through that whole process was to show him that we did care about him and that we were concerned about his well-being."

I respect John Paxson's decision. His decision may backfire and Curry might become a star, but Paxson realized he was dealing with millions of dollars and the future of a franchise. I understand his interest in proceeding cautiously. Plus, Sweetney is a nice player.

However, if Curry keeps his health (and I hope he does), this will be the first Isiah Thomas move that I really like. Curry is an established center who can score in the post, and he is younger than Francisco Garcia.

Ew. I somehow think that New York is looking a lot better if Curry stays healthy. I also think that this is a great move for the Bulls. Sweetney will be a good PF in this league, and of course a big expiring contract and someone who can contribute in Thomas.

Good move for the Bulls.

Get rid of Davis' 13 million too. But he'll be good for them, and he knows Larry from their Pacer days.

I'd say this a good deal for both teams.

im just glad that the lakers didnt get him..... him and kwame together....

According to Chicago sports radio, Bulls get Tomas, Sweatney, Jackson, one 1st round and two second round picks for Curry and Davis. Expectation is that NY will release Davis and Bulls will pick him up.

Bulls will be $20mil under the cap next year. According to Tribune this morning, they will have a go at Ben and Pedja with some of that money, but noone is realistically expecting them to sign with Bulls (or rather, not resign with DET and SAC respectively).

Wait - didn't the league change the rules so a player traded from a team cannot be waived and return to the same team that season?

OK - looks like I was wrong on the amount of time:

http://www.nba.com/news/cba_summary_050804.html

From Section H:

If a team trades a player and the player is subsequently waived by the assignee team, the assignor team will not be permitted to sign the player to a new contract (or claim him off of waivers) until at least 30 days have passed following the date the trade was made (or 20 days for trades that occur during the off-season).

ehhhhhhhhh...............i posted this news like 5 days ago, why was my thread closed??? just curious.

Your thread had died a natural death, primarily because Paxson came out and pretty strongly denied the rumor. Nothing new was added.

Then, 4 days later, the rumor surfaces again - as fact. A new thread was started and now is the more active of the two.

Things were fine until someone, who apparently hadn't seen this thread, BUMPED your old thread with only "bump" as their post.

It's silly to have two threads about the same thing, so the old thread (yours) had the newest comments deleted and it was locked to prevent further confusion (while I was doing the deletion).

I should have unlocked it after I was done. I simply forgot.

thanks for the info.

i know more than paxson.

thanks for the bump, whoever it was.

What exactly did you know? All you said was, "Anybody else hear this?" That's not exactly riveting information, tsa.

;)

I knew Curry was going to the Knicks, like the thread I started said. When I asked if anyone else had heard it, I was just checking if I was the only one who knew. ;)
