New Uniforms?

We should get new designed jersies with the away jersies having Kings written in the front instead of Sacramento (too big of a name for me). The color I don't really care about; if they keep the purple its all right with me. I just keep thinkin of a Mighty Ducks movie i saw years ago when they switched jersies at the half for way cooler ones...The Kings of old are dead, might as well bury the jersey and get new ones to represent the new version of the Kings.

Nope. Black is not coming back. And we're not the only team the NBA has nixed. I've seen it on at least one other board, although I cannot for the life of me remember which one it was...

umm...why?

The Kings can't just decide to have new uniforms. That's pretty much controlled by the league. And they cannot go back to the black. That's also controlled by the league. Uniform style and color is regulated via contract with the various companies involved AND the NBA, not individual teams.

Oh yes they do. Walk around a kings game and see how many people are wearing gold jersey's. People actually pay money for them. I see people out at bars with them to. Honestly they don't look THAT BAD on the court, but I could do without them. They seem to be kryptonite to the Kings. They have a horrible record while wearing them.
yeah, I saw a FEW at the games I went to, but I think I've seen a grand total of 2 in the last year outside of Arco, and I work in the outdoors downtown 40 hours a week in the field. Oh well, maybe they'll be popular a few years from now when they are 'throwbacks'. I've seen more of the old rainbow Houston Astros jerseys from the 80's(and those were freaking UGLY) than the Goldmember Kings jerseys, so maybe in time they'll grow on a few people...just not me.;)

My reason for hating them isn't that they look that bad (although I don't find them appealing) its that they're practically the frickin Lakers' colors. If its something to do with Sacramento being the capital of California there's already another team billing itself as "Golden State" out there too. Ditch em as soon as the NBA allows.

I've just been calling them the "Sacramento Lakers" jerseys. Maybe they should have clued whoever made them in that our rival's colors are purple and gold.

Nor me.

The majority of the gold jerseys I have seen at ARCO have been on children. Considering the color looks like what you find in a baby's diaper, I think that is appropriate. :p

If you can get one of the workers in the Arco store to be candid, they'll admit the gold jerseys were a disaster as far as sales go.

a couple of friends of mine ran the team store from the beginning until just a couple years ago, and they have no clue what Joe and Gavin were thinking when they put this 'Gold Standard' thing together.:D

It didn't come from Joe and Gavin. It was the brainchild of someone in marketing and sales. They simply were able to sell it to Joe and Gavin.

Let me see if this makes any sense.

We had one of the best looking (and selling) jerseys in all of professional sports with the black road jerseys and solid lettering -

Joe and Gavin cannot go back to the black road jerseys because the NBA will not allow them to.

Someone pitched the idea of those ugly gold standard jerseys to Joe and Gavin. Where does the NBA come into play on this decision? And, how far in advance does the NBA or Kings need to know about jersey decisions for the upcoming season.

Why did the NBA allow the Kings to have those gold jerseys made? Do not give me the excuse that we're the best fans in the NBA.

I do not know why the Kings went from the black jerseys to the purple ones (they look blue above though). I can understand why it has Sacramento on the road jersey but why change the look of the letters on the home jersey?

I don't know, Mike0476, the answer to each of your questions.

I do know the league office specially told the Kings they could not go back to using the black uniforms. I'm sorry if you disagree with that decision, but please quit trying to shoot the messenger.

The whole "gold standard" concept was a marketing creation. Gold to tie in with Sacramento's history. Gold to honor the fans because they're "golden." A big stupid-looking gold numeral 6 in front of Arco. I've been pretty blasted adamant about hating it even before it was made public. The "gold standard" idea sucked.

Now about the styling specifics? Jerseys are updated periodically. That is a part of the NBA. They don't keep the same uniforms.

The NBA signed off on the gold jerseys because they had no reason not to. The mere fact they approved the trash bag liner jerseys for the Mavericks, as I mentioned above, should be a pretty good indication the league doesn't care if the jerseys are dumb-looking or not.

And who told you the black King jerseys were one of the top selling jerseys in all of professional sports? That's simply NOT true. Yes, they sold extraordinarily well to Kings fans, as well they should because they rocked. But Kings jersey sales are NEVER top sellers.

I am not trying to shoot the messenger, believe me. I do thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and I am glad someone knows what is going on behind the scenes with this topic.

I hope that person lost their job. It was a terrible idea then as it is now.

That is true, but it would have been nice to at least have it as an alternative jersey.

Those were awful looking jerseys too.

Maybe not necessarily the Kings jersey itself, but the Jason Williams black road jersey was selling. I believe it was the hottest seller at one time. I just do not believe it would have sold as well if we had the old blue jersey or this purple jersey and you can throw in the gold jersey for the fun of it. Of course that is just my opinion.

I actually really like the purple uni's. And since the Bucks are changing theirs, I won't get us and them confused anymore.

Who gives a flip?

If I could cheer for the Kings in those horrible checkerboard unis, or the lovely gold shinys, I can cheer for them in anything.

Come on, G3. It's TDOS. These are the kinds of things we're supposed to be bickering about, remember?

;)

I like how the front of our jerseys say Sacramento because it gives me a sence of pride knowing our hometown is on the front of the jersey than the road fans know where were from. I did though like the old black jerseys though. Why did they change the jerseys in the first place anyone know? Did they do it just because they felt like a change or what?

I wish someone could tell me why. Is it a time issue? Do we have to wait five years before we can go back to a jersey? I don't understand. But I guess no one does.

I really, really miss the black jerseys. Those were my favorite Kings jerseys of all time, closely followed by the powder-blue throwbacks. Then the white, red and blue Royals jerseys. I never really liked the purple ones, especially on the heels of the black ones.

I am glad that the Kings have at least expressed interest in going back to black. (I feel a signature line coming...) I hope it happens eventually.

Just get rid of the freakin' Willy Wonka golden ticket jerseys.

Maybe the black ones could be brought back on retro jersey night... I dunno, too soon?

We can always fall back on my own original royal design:

So when the Kings move to Vegas will the front of the jerseys say "Las Vegas" or will they then be allowed to go back to black? OR, were the gold jerseys a test market for new Vegas home unis? Gold, Vegas, flashy, etc. Makes sense to me!

Wow, I completely agree with you Superman and in that succession too.

The Gold Jerseys were just for last year celebrating the sixth man aka the kings fans. You will not see the gold jerseys this year.

THANK YOU! That's what I've been saying since day 1! Also, change the court! Go back to the one we had for the WCF team. This court has too much purple in it...and as well quoted above...looks fruity! Not that I'm gothic, and I know purple is a royal color, but too much of it can raise questions if you know what I mean!

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE OLD JERSEYS THE KINGS WORE FOR LIKE A YEAR THAT HAD THE CHECKERED DESIGN DOWN THE SIDE WITH THE PURPLE AND BLACK SPLIT ALMOST DOWN THE MIDDLE? THAT WAS THE YEAR THEY WENT TO THE PLAYOFFS WITH MITCH, OP, BRIAN GRANT AND ROONEY.

I think we should trade for Sheed(or somebody equally crazy) for the PF spot, change those gold uniforms to pink. Sure, the "Sacramento Queens" chants would be louder than ever by opposing fans. Of course, that would soon stop after we b*tch slap all of their favorite teams with our defensive intensity led by Ron and Bonzi.
