New logos?

With time, teams evolve too. The looks change for most teams. The Lakers and Celtics are one of those rare exceptions because they have most number of championships so they are the standard.
But not every couple of years. The jaguars are an example. In the past 15 years they have had 3 different uniforms. How many standard uniforms did the pats change? The packers?

You can say the same thing for teams like the Falcons, Saints, Panthers, Buccaneers, Raiders, etc.

Thank god! Kings need to leave that logo where it belongs...in the 90s. No need to keep reminiscing in the past. Hopefully a new era of good basketball is to come.

If you take a look at teams that constantly change their logos, there always seems to be a constant. That constant is that they are usually bad teams in search of an identity. Look at the good, well run teams. They usually dont change their logos. Exceptions i know but generally speaking.

I can think of 535,000,000 reasons why the guys are entitled to a new logo if they want one. No problem with it here at all.

I disagree with the basic premise. I like the primary logo. :p

I'm sure people have wide ranging opinions on it but to me it wouldn't take much to update the current logo into something much better.

Part of it would be adjusting the colors - more black, less gray, a darker purple etc.

But the real issue that ruins the logo for me (AND ruins the Unis IMO) is that horrible font they use for the team name, compounded by the weird design decision to have the K and the S disproportionately large.

I'd be fine with a well done revamp of the current logo or a nicely done rebranding. I'll be curious to see which way they go.

The team itself continues to be a tire fire but I trust Vivek with these sort of off court decisions. He's a clear upgrade from the Maloofs in that regard.

Okay, I'll agree with that part. :)

like VF said. This is rearranging deck chairs on a sinking ship.

For all I care they could wear those god awful gold unis if it meant a legit defensive scheme were implemented.

come now, we all saw this coming. most everyone has assumed that vivek would initiate a re-brand of the franchise when the team moved into the new arena. just because things have gone to s*** for the umpteenth time on the court doesn't mean that various non-basketball concerns have ground to a halt. it certainly won't distract vlade from his job, and vivek saying "no. no. definitely not that one. no. yes!" to various logo and jersey designs is hardly about to impede any progress in righting the basketball concerns that plague this team...

Okay, I draw the line at those gold uniforms. With our luck, they'd bring them back with sleeves.

As much of a tire fire as the product on the court has been during his tenure, Vivek has consistently done a good job (IMO) with the business & marketing side of things.

The arena will be amazing. The team website and app are significantly better. The team ads have been good. The court design is well done.

I have a surprising amount of confidence that the Kings will do a good job with the new logo & uniforms.

I don't know why people act like changing the logo and uniform is going to take precedent over revamping and retooling this roster, as if Vlade and Mike Bratz are going to be spending more time in Adobe Photoshop than they will watching film.

These are completely different areas, covered by completely different people. Vivek and Co have simply hired a marketing firm to work on this rebrand, and he is letting the basketball guys make basketball decisions.

Why get so worked up? A logo update and jersey redesign doesn't need to mean doom and gloom, believe it or not there IS such thing as positive change. I, for one, think the logo indeed needs some retooling. I'm excited to see what we get.

You think the logo needs retooling. I like it the way it is. Why isn't there room for both opinions?

I certainly think there's more than enough room for opinions on the logo. My main point was that comments like...
They need to leave the freaking logo alone and fix the team.
But hey, moving the deck chairs around worked for the folks on the Titanic, right?
... make it seem like Vivek and Vlade think changing the logo is going to fix the team. That is the viewpoint I am challenging. What I am saying is, whether you think the logo needs changing or not, it has nothing to do with fixing the team and I think they are probably already hard at work.

I never said there isn't room for both opinions regarding whether or not a new logo is needed.

My bad. My comment about the deck chairs was pure sarcasm built out of frustration. I think I just kind of lost it for a bit. :p

Didn;t we have this new logo discussion in TDOS?

I distinctly remember almost every one of these posts already being made.....
