Nets might aquire Sonics forward Songaila

Well, with the Nets reportedly very close to signing Rahim, it appears more likely we might retain Songaila...

Is that a good thing? No changes = big trouble in little Sacto next year. There is some urgency here -- Kings fever is definitely dying, and its not too far from eating into the formerly impregnable ticket base. With no arena, once that happens...

I didn't say it was necessarily a good thing but I'm not convinced it's the sign of impending doom, either. I'm still not giving up the hope that there is a multi-team trade in the works that will prove to us once again that Petrie is the genius at trades...which has, with the exception of getting Vlade and Bobby Jackson as free agents, been the general route Petrie has followed in acquiring significant talent for the team.

I didn't like Rahim anyway, so I'm not going to be wailing about him signing with the Nets.

look at petrie's gm history on hoopshype.com...

that should give you hints.

Wow. Until you mentioned it I had no idea such a thing existed at hoopshype, I usually only look at the rumors and salaries. I just wasted tons of time checking out how all the GMs match up to each other. One thing I noticed is that no one's perfect.

Yeah well it looks good as far as one of the main players interested in Songaila might have just used up all their MLE. So...Darius may be back. And possibly at a reasonable amount!

They say that the Webber deal is his worst transaction!? I thought they would label that one the best considering it was widely thought that Webber could never be moved. If thats his worst (probably not) thats a pretty good history!

Gee, maybe they are basing their opinion on whether or not it was a good move by something really arcane, like how much it improved the team and not how hard it was to move the contract?

Hardly. The Webber trade just happens to be the biggest move by Petrie that can easily be seen as negative. While the Kings no doubt were doing poorly prior to the trade, at this moment it's hard to say that the Kings right now are not worse than pre-trade. Maybe long-term it will have benefits, but right now it's all bad. Have a better nomination?

Well then how can they judge something like that so early?

That's the point, SacTownKid... At this moment in time, the Webber trade hasn't solved any of the Kings problems. It hasn't improved the team. So, considering all the other trades that Petrie has done, it is - at this point - the one that has gotten the Kings the least in return.

Wizards are now apparently also interested in Darius according to the Washington Post Not sure what their cap situation is in the wake of the Daniels signing.

hey, if Geoff can pull off a Darius sign and trade fro Etan Thomas, he may have reaffirmed his genius label no matter what else he does or does not do. But the Wiz really like Etan, so seems quite unlikely. Ruffin...eh, is there a lower skill guy in the league?

yeah but he is not bad defensive player.....hes more like ham (pistons)

Darius was really my favorite player last year. I so hope that he stays. I think that if can get his foul problem under control, he is one of the better defenders we have. He plays very good "basics" and I prefer that over flashy any day.

............and he seems to be a strong locker room presence, the importance of which seems to be overlooked at times. Do we really want to start slopping up the locker room with "bad boys" that are being bantered around on here?

He also is awesome vs. Dirk. If we played Dallas, Dirk would of had problems like he did all post-season too. :)

It could happen b/c Etan has a BAD contract. For his overall skill set probably worse than Kenny Thomas. Of course Etan would be a monster for us, b/c he would provide exactly what we need.

Like I say though, they like him. So we kind of have to convince THEM that he's got a bad contract. ;) From their perspective, he's their banger/dirty work guy. Not a talent thing. Just fills his role well. I'm sure we could pry him loose if we were offering major talent, but don't think Darius quite fits the bill. He might be a good 1/2 bench combo with Etan though. Skill vs. power.

I certainly don't think Etan is untouchable. But just one of those guys who is likely valued even more than his numbers. Would LOVE to have him here. But not sure how to convey my love of the concept to the Wiz. ;)
